Trib Reporter's Story

  • Bring water. Think about gel inserts. And by all means, never leave your partner alone.

That's some of the advice veteran cops are giving to their younger brethren in preparation for the rally Tuesday night for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

  • Things like, when you get to your assigned post, clear it of any rocks, bottles or anything that could be thrown at you, he told me. Bring water, your glasses for eye protection even if you usually wear contacts, and maybe even some gel inserts for what's sure to be a long day standing on your feet. Make a judgment about what you're willing to let slide; protecting people and fellow officers is more important than property. Choose your battles with rowdy crowds, and never chase a looting suspect. Because once you leave your post, you're on your own, and that's not safe. Stay cool, and above all, stick together.
A number of our readers were a little resentful of what they viewed was Rozas lifting entire passages from our comment sections. We appreciate the sentiment, but we'd rather assume that she spoke to the same person that put the comment up in the first place or another of our readers who may have quoted it to her. Most of the preparations mentioned are common sense after all. We're still hoping everything runs smoothly on the street.

Jesse Jackson SR. was on TV for over 15 minutes with the same single tear dripping down his old wrinkled face. He refused to wipe his single tear from his face for TV effects...what a P.O.S.

I don't know what was a bigger embarrassment, preparations for what never happened (no mass hysteria/lawlessness, as was widely predicted here) or the fact that many of the ILEAS cops had much better fleets, with much better equipment...that worked!
We watched election coverage at our meeting place on the suburban cops' Panasonic tuffbooks....AFTER they took them out of their squads and placed them on the hoods of their squads! The batteries actually held a charge, and they were wirelessly connected to the internet. Weis, I've never felt more ashamed to work for this Dept, and for the Mayor who refuses to provide us with decent equipment. Many of the ILEAS cops had tasers too. I've only got 8 years on. Wish I could have left with them.

She did speak to at least one of the people who posted some of those suggestions. Me. She said she spoke to more but I can't confirm. How could she contact anyone anyway, with most posting anonymously or as shavedlongcock etc. I don't remember anyone posting with their given name or with their email attached.

I would think SCC would be please she uses the blog as a source, others do also.

I think if it is important to people to get correct attribution then they should sign posts with a name and/or include an email etc. and maybe a copyright notice.

I couldn't believe this reporter claimed she had an interview for her story. What a fucking lier. SCC, keep her off the blog.

likely she's one who posts those 'really? tell me more" comments here without identifying herself.

Read her articles in the Trib she is pretty pro police and tells a fair story. If she lifted ideas and quotes from SCC it only gives Scc more credit for being a good source of information.

Your time on the job shows, we don't prepare for what is going to happen, we prepare for what might happen, and plan accordingly. AS far as the burbs, it's easy to have all the bells and whistles when you are in a tiny municipality, remember, you are the real police! no toys necessary...

Ain't that the truth!

I rolled past the ILEAS guys at 69/Wentworth. I was going to go talk to them but I felt ashamed going up to them in my pool car with 217,000+ MILES ON IT!!!!!!!!!

Just to rub salt in the wound, I used to volunteer with an EMA in the burbs. They issued each of their members Avon masks "just in case" of a pandemic flu or chemical attack. How many Chicago coppers have Avon masks in their cars?

I was at Plymouth and Jackson last night. I observed many a strange site to be sure. Non more strange than two sawed off Police Women getting out of a brand new Tahoe. There only function was to hand out replacement batteries if any went dead. Two ( one F/2 Sgt. and F/1 PO) needed to hand out batteries? Now that's what I call an effective use on manpower. I commeneted to another officer about what kind of BS that was and he told me that the two of them were actually the Motor Maintenance Liasions from the CPD. Looks like either of them had more then 10 years on and driving a new Tahoe none the less. Where the f has this Department gone? Too many do nothings doing do nothing jobs. I would think one civilian in a old junker could just as easily passed out batteries. Last time I checked we were pretty short in my District. Heavy does as heavy does I guess. Keep on working hard Mr. Dog Ass but don't you be expecting no good job liken those B's have. We're Fucked!!!!

I have an Avon Mask in my car. It's Misty Morning Melon. Leave on for 20 minutes. Use warm water to rinse off, follow with a cool splash and fluff your face with a brisk towel. Refreshing!!!!!

I have one.

They are giving them out now at TARA raining on the last day. Of course I also bought one several years ago so actually I have two. And prescription lenses are provided if you need them, just bring your eyeglass prescription on the day they fit for the gas masks.

Suburban guys, I apologize. Please don't let the above comments be a reflection of CPD. The "real police" shit makes me cringe when I hear the PPO's say it. You deal with the same shit we do, unfortunately, this two year wonder hair gel is just repeating what he hears at the academy, in his mind, this makes him tough. Hey hand-job, next time you see a suburban copper, go up to him and tell him that you're the "real police". Walk the walk nerd.
