Election Night Revelry

As you may have guessed, we're overly busy tonight. Most of today's articles were written long before we went to work and published via cellular technology - the wonders of the 21st century never cease to amaze.

We assume there was an election tonight. We assume Daley's slate won most of the local races. We'd hope that the national trends moved away total disaster and saved the filibuster at least. We aren't going to be as childish as some of our recently and not-so-recently banned commentators and make the declaration that this Democrat "isn't our president." The fact is, like it or not, he is our president. So be it.

America has voted. We don't have to like it and we will support every legal means to make sure he's a one-term president like Carter was. And if that means pointing out his broken promises, lies, shady Chicago connections, policies detrimental to taxpayers, policies wrong for American allies and any other thing we feel like commenting on, then we're well within our rights and duties as citizens.

We're sure we'll be called all kinds of racists for the above statement as we've been called for the past few months just for pointing out the little that we did during this campaign. We'll keep flushing those down the drain, too.

A car with the bumper sticker "He's not my president" wouldn't last long, unlike the cars with them on for the last 8 years.

Tolerance from the left is reserved for criminals, illegals, and murders.

What was utterly disgusting was all the libtards hanging on the messiah's every word like some sick cult, chanting "yes we can" made me want to vomit. I guess the saying "you can buy an election" is true, with Obama raising and spending more than any other election.... so much for his promise to just use public funds like McCain didd, now we wait to see what other promises get broken.

Look for Rahm Emmanuel and John Kerry to get cabinet posts, and don't forget a black must be appointed to replace him! the next four yrs will be a wild ride.

Nice sentiments. Like him or not come January 20th he is the only President we will have. When he is right support him. When he is wrong oppose him.

I read this earlier:

On the night of his landslide victory over Hoover, in 1932, in the depths of the Great Depression, Franklin Roosevelt had an intimate conversation with his son James:

“You know, Jimmy,” Franklin said, “all my life I have been afraid of only one thing—fire. Tonight I think I’m afraid of something else.”

“Afraid of what, Pa?”

“I’m just afraid that I may not have the strength to do this job.” He paused reflectively. “After you leave me tonight, Jimmy, I am going to pray. I am going to pray that God will help me, that he will give me the strength and the guidance to do this job and to do it right. I hope that you will pray for me, too, Jimmy.”

Good luck Mr President Elect, if you screw up we all suffer.

I read you and respect you, whoever you may be. I wondered about the 'paranoia' of your 'rally' posts. I believe much of what 'you' say. You are on the streets most of us never see.

You were wrong. Maybe, in more ways than one.

And I still respect you. And if ever I meet you, I'll prove it.

Is it so hard to accept these words...?

"And for those who did not vote for me, I'm your president, too."

I just wish I could know how anyone can call white people racists after this election, if anyone does (and assuming that you are, who knows). I mean, white people were fairly well split on Obama, as were many other 'minorities', and as a group didn't have any real issue with his colour, even those who voted against him. In fact, the only group that wasn't was black people, who almost solidly as a group voted for him, and who most often cited his colour as their reason.

So, when can we sit back and be honest and just admit that it is only OK to be a racist in this country if you are black, and that, by and large, they are the largest group of racists in this country now, by colour?

Not likely, but oh well.

A Chicago Machine Politician in the White House....What could be the matter with that? I can't wait to see his cabinet appointees. Then Daley and Blago, and Stroeger can appoint more of their political cronies to replace them...Higher taxes, no problem. Cut out the Bush tax cuts. Technically thats not a tax increase. When I heard the word Change, I expected some. Olympics, here we come at Goverment expense. Airport funding, here we come. Infrastructure improvements, while necessary here we come at an alarming rate. Higher crime rates, here we come. It all works so well here in Illinois. Where is the change? Where is the Beef?

My wife and I were just talking about the election and the implications of what he has said as of late. I hope I am wrong, but I feel everything he wants to change will just set this country back even more. I was telling her about how much tax I used to pay under Clinton. I hope those days don't return.

Obama will be judged on some key issues that will affect us all:

Taxes - who's rich? Under Clinton I was apparently even though I only made about 18 to 20K at the time. What's the cutoff now?

Economy - tax the shit out of the rich, capital gains, inheritance. Give businesses no incentives to be productive. Herbert Hoover took the same actions and brought us into the depression.

Foreign policy - he wants to negotiate with people who can't be negotiated with. Iran, Hamas, PLO, Hezbollah all want us dead and wiped off the planet. All they need is just a stern talking to, that will fix them!

Iraq - he's going to pull all of our troops from Iraq. Good idea, because everything was fine when we left Vietnam. That's ok though, when Iran takes control of Iraq and controls the Persian Gulf I'm sure they will let our oil go through... like 200 per barrel.

Oil - we won't be drilling for oil in our own country now so how are we going to deal with the dependence on foreign oil? He'll spend billions on alternative fuel research, although cars that run on hugs and happy thoughts sounds nice, he'll do nothing to address the problem at hand.

I hope I'm wrong but time will tell. And just like lib-tards who pointed out every little mistake, hiccup, mispronunciation, stumble Bush made, I'll be right there throwing it in their faces.

12 hours at time and a half. All of it spent prepared to be sent somewhere but never going anywhere. All days off cancelled, all watches. And no transportation in the event we were deployed. None, you all know the squad car situation. No help there. No second wagon. No extra cars. No buses.

In an emergency we would go by regularly scheduled CTA bus to the Red line and then board a train. Is that brilliant or what? Or we would walk from area 3 to downtown or the west side or wherever.

None of the brain trust thought to have a bus standing by for the rest of us. The rest of the suburban force had their own squad cars etc. We had nothing and certainly not enough radios to go around. Plenty of supervisors however.

Why is Obama President?

It is simple:

George Bush's horrible legacy of possibly being the worst president ever. His actions caused the first black and super liberal president to get elected.

If you want to know why McCain lost, all you have to do is look at the last 8 years.

If George Bush's Presidency wasn't so horrible, I highly doubt Obama would be our President.

You are absolutely correct.

If Bush did a better job, McCain would be president.

However, doesn't that just prove how intolerant blacks and the left are? Blacks think a black president is good. People think republican is bad because of Bush. Liberals think conservatives are bad.

The nation is polarized beyond repair and because so many, who profess tolerance, refuse to be open minded. Many blacks, already believing they are entitled to assistance, might now believe they are invincible; a dangerous position for the police to be in. Liberals believe he'll fix the country and world in one swoop of the pen, again a dangerous position for us all to be in.

Prove me wrong Obama:

Higher taxes will hurt us all.
He can't make the world like us.
There is a terrorist threat.
Terrorists will not negotiate.
Terrorists want us all dead.
There will be another attack.
Iraq will fall without our support.
Iran will gain control of the gulf.
Gas will be $10 to $20 a gallon.

Bush is gone, and I can't say that I'm relieved, but whoever the president was going to be, they would have their hands full.

He's the president now regardless and I'm along for the ride regardless. I pray to God he proves me wrong.

I wonder if half of the comments posted on this blog would exist if obama was white. You guys got to give him a chance. Bush fucked up this country for eight years and you wont even talk about that do you. He slashed the funding for local police departments all across the U.S. by 90 percent in his eight years in office to funnel all of that money into homeland security. And now it has come to light that all the funding transferred to homeland security was mismanaged ie, failed technology, virtual fence, and a slew of other things. Give Obama a chance before you start to label him the one president who is going to bring down this country. Most of the negative comments towards Obama are because of the color of his skin. We have some of the most racist police officers on this fucking department. Grow up, it is 2008 not 1968. Get over the color issue and give this guy a chance. If his presidency fails then feel free to post all of the negative comments you want. But to crucify him before he has even stepped a foot in the white house, come on.

On election night 1976, after the team of Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale, both ultra-liberal idealist honorable Democrats, had been declared the winners of the election, a frank conversation with a good neighbor and friend revealed he had voted for Carter-Mondale, and I had voted for Gerald Ford and Robert Dole. I sincerely related that I hope in four years I could say the country had made a good choice. Sadly, that day did not come. We suffered through a terrible economy created by Carter's presidency and policies.

Yesterday, I voted for a great AmeriCAIN hero, but he lost to an ultra-liberal Democrat. I wish Obama-Biden luck, but the rest of the country, especially the young voters, are not aware of the depth of corruption in the Chicago-Cook County-Illinois Democratic machine, which is where Obama learned all he knows about politics. All considered, I wish us all luck.

I say again, 32 years after the first time, I hope the country made a good choice and I can say it was a good choice after four years have passed. We will certainly see.

The non-ticket crowd was about 10:1 white/black. Dressed in gym shoes and jeans, and very young. Very idealistic, and enthusastic. Very well behaved considering how fucked up the planing and logistics were.

Heard these kids chanting USA,USA after Obama reached 270. Saw a lot of American flags and only one of those stupid globe flags.

It is sad he did not have her there to witness history in the making. Also, I didn't see Mrs. Jackson at his side.

Jesse Jackson Sr, the phony bastard, was not crying about Obama's election. He was crying about how the divorce settlement and the child support was going to steal everything he has "stole" from his people over all these years. Serves the son of a bitch right.

Constructive advice for ANY person hoping for a conservative comeback in this country: start looking for conservative leadership NOW. The entire current crop of Republican leaders has to go, and new conservative (small responsible government, pro-individual-liberty) leadership must emerge.

Or you can just keep name-calling and fearmongering. Its gotten the Republicans this far already!

Hopefully the real conservatives will stand up now. Because other than Ron Paul and a few house and senate Republicans, there is no sign of conservative leadership anywhere now that GWB and his crew sold us down the river.

That anyone could defend Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Paulson, Bair, or any of the other idiots in this administration is absolutely stunning. That McCain did not entirely disavow their idiotic agenda is one of the root causes of his loss.

Look for Rahm Emmanuel and John Kerry to get cabinet posts, and don't forget a black must be appointed to replace him! the next four yrs will be a wild ride.

OK-Time out, the United States went off the gold standard back when Nixon was president. Everything about our currency since then has no backing. Why are so many of us worried about the economy. The country is about 44% owned by foreign investment. As for the president elect, there's still 435 congressman and 100 senators to deal with. I dont think they're going away. I explained to some co-workers about how the younger voters were so enamored back in '76 when Jimmy Carter crawled out from beneath all those peanut shells and his brother Billy was wizzing on buildings all over D.C. Don't sweath the small stuff. I thought Grant Park looked great on the tube last night. Hey, it's only 4 years. You should be able to do that standing on your head.

the only joy will be seeing the look on the westside joes faces when they realizes that other than skin color, BHO doesn't have anything in common with them... in a word, joe ain't got shit coming but a hard way to go & a short time to get there.

The election was a referendum on Bush because he did not keep greedy Democrats like Obama in tow. Obama took money from the big oil companies, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. How would you rate his performance as a senator?
Oh yeah, you can't because he didn't shit to be evaluated.
How about as a state senator?
Again, you can't because he didn't do shit for the state either.

Each time he has been elected to office he immediately began campaigning for a different office, Instead of doing his job.

Has he crafted any legislation of his own and attempted to get it passed? No.

He is the figure head for a party that now has a majority in congress, and with him at the helm, he won't veto shit. That's why he's in office.

Blacks stick together whether right or wrong they will stick together. White people can't grasp this concept, and thats why Obama was elected. Race was never brought up at all in the last few months because whites would be considered racist. Well I don't have to respect him or the office he holds just like all of the Bush bashers have done. Bush didn't create any of this shit thats going on, i.e. the economy (Clinton giving out housing loans to everyone who applied), or the war in Afganistan, or taking down Saddam Hussein. He did what needed to be done and to his credit didn't sit back and take it like the Dummocrats will do. I didn't see Bushs name on the ticket so how were many people voting against him as the 1 blogger wrote, must be a DemocRAT. I will vote for whoever runs against this goof in 2012, even the great Seiser. As the old saying goes, "Be careful what you wish for because you just may get it!" Pray that he governs with wisdom not usually found in Far Left circles, or neo-con circles for that matter. Seriously, he is going to need to see some support from Conservatives when he does the right thing for the good of the country, esp. in foreign affairs. Pray that he loves being President more then he loves being a "change" agent for the Left Wing.

Just like how everyone said give J-Fed a chance? Another clear example of how someone is given a job for face value. No experience or knowledge of how to do that job and will slowly realize that he's way in over his head. Anyone notice how Obama was already backing out of some of his promises already at his acceptance speech? "We can't and won't be able to solve all the problems." Nice sentiments.

Like the last eight years, he screwed up, we all suffered. We all paid.

I believe national security will continue to be a priority. That much has been made clear to both parties. How about quitting this bullshit party politics like Bush asked everyone to do after 9/11

The other commenters are right that a major factor in Obama getting elected is how much everybody hates Bush. So oh well guys, if Obama is as bad as you think then he'll probably be voted out in 2012.

Also, I mean, it's not as though the last 8 years have been the best for America...9/11, an economic collapse, and 2 drawn out wars which have resulted in dangerously low recruitment levels and a weakened military?

SCC, you are entitled to your opinion, I am living mine. Understand this, he is not my President, I did not vote for him. For the first time in my life, this citizen is disappointed in his country. It of course is not the end of the world. My issue is not the election of the first black man. I vote for the best candidate. My issue is we have elected a Marxist over a man who served his country beyond the call of duty and I believe a grave mistake was made. His friends are Marxists and especially Ayers. This jack ass was a member of a group who killed police officers and Che Obama is an aquaintance? WTF? My U.S. flag is off my house and will not be flown again. It along with the folded American Legion flags presented for my father and uncle were donated to the local VFW today. The post commander tried to talk me out of it. He said a number of people are disappointed and then he sounded like you; but he is our President. YOU may have to serve your commander in chief, I don't. I am a private citizen and live in a country with a government, not a government with a country.

Can you whining bitches just accept that Obama won the election by landslide, FAIR & SQUARE? We've put up with the Texas idiot for 8 years. Give the man a chance. We waited 8 years for W to man up, and the whole country has been disappointed. Obama can do no worse.

11/05/2008 03:09:00 PM

I want SCC to remember this idiot's post 4 years from now, then repost it with the title "Obama can do no worse" and let it be shown that he did and will do worse....and more harm too. The only thing that this election proved is that waaaaaaaaay too many people are drinking the kool-aid, waaaay too many and not enough people with common sense left in this country anymore. He's not the right guy, not right now....not ever. He's shown his true colors early on even before the ball got rollin on his election campaign. How soon do we forget.....refusal to place hand over heart during pledge of allegiance, blantant refusal of wearing US flag, his pastor..his mentor....association with domestic terrorists and the list goes on and on. Him being only partly black had no effect on why I didnt vote for him. The list of many obvious reasons is why I didnt. Bush needed to go, but not by the likes of Obama..........NOPE!

To all you Bush bashers...I voted for Bush PROUDLY! Gore and Kerry were/are both idiots.
Bush went wrong when he tried to bring the GOP to the left, and he started acting like a big spending Democrat.

Oil price increase. China and India are both booming economies and their people for the first time car afford cars, thus they are buying gas on the world market; this is simple supply and demand, thus a price increase. Have you noticed the gas price go down in the past 6 weeks...when BUSH strong armed Democrats in congress to lift drilling bans here in the US.
Iraq...since 9/11 have we been bombed here? London has, Madrid has. Hummm, show strength and the bad guys stay away.
Judicial appointments...Bush has placed solid legal minds on the bench, who are looking out for YOUR liberties.
Bush crammed the Keyoto accord down the throats of the worlds liberals. China and India, our major economic competition, exempted themselves from this HUGE economic straight jacket...GOD BLESS Bush for saying NO to the intense political pressure to cave on this.
Bush will go down in history was a reasonably successful president.
He inhereted a recession and our country sustained its worst attack since Pearl Harbor, he kept the economy stable for 7 of his 8 years, the DOW reached its all time high 14000 under him.
First Lady Laura Bush brought dignity back to the White House.
Under Bush, Black Americans have attained their greatest political successes
Cheers "W", and enjoy your ranch in retirement.

Typical liberal moron, smug and self-pretentious. Sip your chablis and chuckle at Jon Stewart's wit on the television.

There are degrees of everything. I don't think Bush was anywhere near perfect, but he was better than the more liberal, less conservative alternative.

Nevermind that he was part of the current administration that got us in this mess and that he sided with the current policies of the current administration 90%+ of the time according to his own words.

If you think yes, then I emplore you to try it and if the answer is a fat NO then tell us what you think then.

This is where your Messianic bullshit gets so ridiculous. Did you see your chosen savior all over news yesterday? He already wants MORE money for MORE bailouts. The idea WAS floated to forgive forty percent of your credit card debt at the expense of the taxpayers, and is being pushed by your heroes the extreme left democratic party.

Yes, McCain was a liberal republican, and that is using the term loosely. Yes, that was the republican parties fault, they have moved left in response to the election of more and more ultra-liberal democrats, ie Pelosi, Reid and others. Obama is only MORE liberal than any of them, he truly fits the definition of a socialist. But the logic that because the republicans have moved to six liberal on a scale of 10, that somehow it is worse than 12 liberal on a scale of ten, it just doesn't make sense.

Maybe if they elect a Nazi or a full-blown communist, or a Muslim fundamentlist such as Bin Laden president, maybe you will quietly sit and say that the people have spoken and he is my president. Well, I won't. I believe in the democratic process, but there is a line I won't cross, socialism is that line. I didn't like Clinton, but he was my president. Obama is not legitimately and never will be. If you recall many of his domestic terrorist associates have denied the legitimacy of the government WITH his support, as have his black separatist companions. See any Rev. Wright material? There are still law suits pending that make a cogent case he isn't even eligible, but that's another story. He does not believe in the constitution, wants to change it to make it easier to redistribute wealth. You elected him, you got your wish, so instead of worrying about who I have to accept as president, go to one of your silly rallies, chant the name of the one, give a few "yes we can's" and honor the birth of a socialist nation. I am just sad that the real people of America, the workers that haven't been tainted by the filth of urban liberalism, will have to suffer the breakdown of the nation along with you. Hopefully you are a big Daley supporter also, and not one of these fools that decry the Machine even as they talk of how they voted for Obama, the single most empowering event for Daley and his cronies to ever occur.

I had a "conservative" coworker tell me after the election that he hopes Obama's first term is a disaster. I asked, you mean for the country too?

He said yes. This guy is a good friend, and I still told him that his thoughts are unpatriotic.

Hoping that an Obama presidency doesn't unduly harm you or the nation is one thing. Hoping that the nation is harmed in an Obama presidency makes you a freakin traitor.

For the real conservatives out there, make your voices heard and find the real conservative leadership in this country. Right now pretty much the only relevant conservatives are those (perhaps few) in the Democratic party.

More than anything, accept that he is the president, and hope and push for him to make good choices that benefit the U.S. That is, pray that the U.S. does well under this guy, no matter how much we may disagree with what we project he will do.

um, no,--

I take it from the rest of your statement that you only do not accept him as your president, and even that pending resolution of the issues you believe exist.

If, however, you do not "hope and push for him to make good choices that benefit the U.S. That is, pray that the U.S. does well under this guy, no matter how much we may disagree with what we project he will do", then I believe what you hope for and pray for is tantamount to treason.

You don't accept that he is the president, fine. Hoping and praying for anything that is harmful to this country is FLAT OUT treason.

Understand that the kind of innuendo you raise does not help your cause either. Remember all the posts here about how Obama is a Muslim threat, or how there would be riots, or how he is a closet terrorist?

You didn't get called out on it much on this board or SCS's board, but none of this has been borne out. There are real issues to discuss in this nation, and the scare-mongerining is not helpful.

You wanna talk about the extra 40 billion that the G is "lending" to AIG as of today, and maybe discuss some substantive issues like whether statues of Comrade Bush should be raised in every town square?

Why must you idiots continue this. Your commisar Hussein has already spoken...he has demanded the further bailouts prior to his official ascension. Pretending it is not the democrat agenda pushing these bailouts is, at best, disingenuous, and knowing the character of liberals, more likely a deliberate lie. At least I know that since the Hussein supporters already must lie to defend him, that my feelings of disgust, distrust and dissension are correct.

--Pretending it is not the democrat agenda pushing these bailouts is, at best, disingenuous, and knowing the character of liberals, more likely a deliberate lie.--

Nice. A Republican secretary of Treasury (Paulson), after months of being on record that everything is fine and hunky-dory, comes in on a Thursday or Friday with Bernanke and demands 700 billion by Monday morning, or else. Granted, the only people who opposed it en masse were in the House (all up for reelection weeks later), and largely Republicans who had heard from their constituents. But McCain and Obama both voted for it. Its the Dems fault and their agenda?

If you are too stupid to see what is right in front of your eyes than God Himself can't help you. Paulson is not a Democrat. The Democrats did not call Paulson and Bernanke in. Paulson and Bernanke went in and demanded 700 billion. Counting the Freddie and Fannie nationalization (see today's news that 100 billion ain't enough for Freddie), the bill is over a trillion dollars at the demands of Bush's executive.

Somehow this is a Dem agenda? I'm sure the whole 5 trillion+ increase in national debt is all a vast left-wing conspiracy too?

I'd ask you to turn out the lights before closing up your particular office of the Republican party, but I'm afraid you'll be in a strait jacket and someone else will have to close it up for you.

Right.

I said Bush wasn't correct in pandering to the left as he did, creating some odd conglomerate of big government and conservatism that didn't work. He, and the rest of the neocons were pushed there by the political pressure of the left, particularly the 06 coopting of both houses of the legislature. However, dow was at 14k, unemployment record lows, huge expansion of economy in the six years Bush had until Pelosi/Reid took over. If you can't see the pressure of you liberals moving everything left, YOU are the blind one. And if we agree Bush's bailouts and bloated spending don't work, how can you be so blind as to think Osama's radically liberal/socialism, that is far more for spending and taxing, can be better? Oh, because he is black and he wants "change", throw in some groupthink and a yes we can and I see how you get there.

Your hatred of the local dems has blinded you. You will continue feeling the electoral beatings until you come to Jesus.

First of all, economic stats have been entirely revised slowly over the last 30 years. Take a look at a site called something like shadowstats, and they will provide a comparison of today's economic conditions to those reported over the last 70 years.

This stuff is so far above the heads of most Americans that I don't blame you for believing what you believe.

However, more than 80% of Americans have seen real incomes drop in the last 8 years. Inflation statistics were revised in the early part of this decade do exclude home prices, so it missed the runup as inflation on the way up and the drop as deflation on the way down.

Most Americans, including you apparently, do not know what you are being spoon fed by the government under either party. It ain't your father's statistics.

Any "growth" in America was almost entirely fueled by debt. You ever heard of mortgage equity withdrawal (MEW)? 800 billion per year in the boom years, and I guarantee you know dozens of people who were taking cash out in refinances. That money helped grow the economy.

The defaults on that debt incurred under Bush underlie what is happening now.

There are dozens of related topics to discuss, and I don't think SCC wants us going back and forth here forever. But this is far bigger than what you are imagining, and its not as simple as the slogan you memorized as a chant from the Republican party.

There are very few people who have any level of understanding of these issues, but the numbers are increasing every day. I'd encourage you to start reading some of the economic websites (Calculated Risk, globaleconomicanalysis etc.) and learn as much as you can about where we are and where this is going.

If nothing else, you might hear quite a bit about your likelihood of every seeing a dime in your pension or in social security.
