Even led by the hand, jurors can't figure it out:
A Cook County jury Sunday said it could not agree on whether Carail Weeks was the man who opened fire on a South Side block two years ago and killed a Harper High School honors student.
Jurors told Judge Joseph Kazmierski that they could not reach a unanimous verdict in Weeks' murder trial. They had been deliberating since 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Nothing shocking, the jury pool in Crook county is probably the dumbest i've ever seen in action. You get these suburbanites that have never seen the underbellies of this fucked up city. They cannot comprehend the animals walking around commiting crimes. When they see a criminal in court they think he is a a person like their beloved family even after the evidence presented paints the criminal differently.

Or can that ever exists in our society now ?
Too many other factors come into a jury's decision making process.

My brother-in-law works for our illustrious Water Department in a pretty high spot. He has been told by someone from the 5th floor who reports directly to our jagoff Mayor the following: Effective 01 Jan 09, metered water rates will rise anywhere from 15-40%. One of the reasons behind this is as follows: Since the introduction of the recycling cans, people have been instructed to rinse every bottle, can, food container, etc. prior to chucking same into the blue can. Daley has already paid 300K to a "private" reseach firm to determine approximately how much water the average Chicago household uses to rinse items prior to recycling. Now it makes perfect sense why the City installed water meters on all the homes and buildings w/o them. This bastard is an evil genius.

Its not up to the defendant to prove he did no committ the crime. it is up to the state to prove he did. Unless someone actually saw him pulling the trigger, or he had the gun with him after the fact, there is no proof here. Strong evidence, but not "beyond reasonable doubt".
This is a suprise???? I'm not the biggest fans of our ASA's. That being said they do tell the truth sometimes and they all will tell you they lose the majority of trials in front of a jury.
Our jury pool if filled with conspiracy nuts, CSI freaks, and complete fools. Jurys watch Law & Order and see cases won with miracle last minute evidence. The jurors forget the parts in TV where evidence if thrown out for no good reason. They forget the parts with idiot judges.
I hate to see things come to this but I'm glad every time an ASA says lets cut a deal. A conviction no matter how much jail time is better than not guilty and a guarenteed civil suit.

The real problem was the substandard building materials used in construction nowadays. A well made home would have stopped these bullets. Send out the building inspectors! Any frame home must be upgraded with a brick exterior.

My brother was jury foreman in a murder trial in Tulsa, OK. Everyone on the jury agreed that the defendant was guilty as hell save one. That woman would agree with everything my brother said as he reviewed the evidence and the instructions right up to the point where he said, "So you agree that the prosecution has met the burden of evidence that he committed murder in the first degree, right?"
"Oh, no!" she'd say. "They didn't prove it to me!" She just wouldn't send a "brother" to jail for life.
After a week of being sequestered they had to report to the judge that they were deadlocked. A mistrial was declared.
The guilty SOB was found as such in a later trial.

He may or may not have had a right to buy and possess a firearm, but the right to use it is always subject to circumstance (in IL, it's defending oneself or others from a forcible felony).

What's amazing is how many innocent people are in jail and now have criminal records that are not true - juries know how a person't life can be damaged forever with the wrong verdict. Wintesses too can have their lives marred by false criminal charges and verdicts

That office has the most incompetent political hack attorneys anywhere that is why they can't win a case. Why do you think that felony review screens out 95% of the felonys we present to them? Because they can't win a case unless every thing is completely in their favor. THe CCSAO hasnt considered trying cases and actually winning cases that might be challenging but it is clear the bad guy committed the crime.
I don't even bother arresting anyone or calling felony review anymore because I can't stand hearing some 2 or 3 year bottom 1/3 of their law school class, political hack attorney tell me that they are denying felony charges after making me wait 4 hours for them to "review" a simple criminal statute and apply it to the facts of my case.

Im a deputy at 26th and cal and Ive heard some fucked up questions come out of jurors mouthes. The truth hurts but here it goes! You know why these shit bag fucks get off all the time? Cause of the one or two shit bag jurors that wont sign a guilty verdict form cause they dont want to put a "brother" away for life! and what happens is the white suburbanite jurors dont want to deliberate for two days and nights so they roll over!!!!!!! I came in contact with this fuck and though he did not admit he did it I can see in his eyes hes GUILTY. and the inmates know this stuff!!

Hey DUDE!
I am a citizen of Chicago and Cook County, (though not necessarily proud of it), and outside of the stupidity of our governor, I don't think your location of residence is a fair indicator of intelligence.
Let me point out here, also, that if only ONE PERSON is not comfortable with the opinion of the rest of the jury, that ONE PERSON can and will create a hung jury or mistrial.
Add to that, situations beyond our control, such as in the case of our slain brother, Bobby Soto. Witness intimidation, jury tampering destruction or tampering with evidence, improper collection of evidence, etc. There are so many factors that can turn a jury, that even the lawyers don't know what to say.
At the age of 22, I sat as a juror at 26th & Cal on a trial charging double murder, double attempted murder, and unlawful restraint. I was a young, liberal college kid.
After just 8 days of jury selection, trial and deliberation, my life would never be the same!
Two bad guys shot a 16 year old girl in the head and slashed her girlfriend's throat with a broken bottle and left her for dead. Well, she didn't die and instead, was the star witness at trial, huge scars around her neck and all.
Found all guilty on all counts. That was in 1974. Back in college, I changed major from Psychology to Law Enforcement, took the police exam, did 27 yrs and retired. Again, though, that trial changed my life in soooo many ways, it's hard to explain. The jury room is a very unique place!
Finally, check out the 1958, Henry Fonda version of "Twelve Angry Men". Classic, B+W film and an Oscar nominee for best actor and best picture... just because it's a great flick that captures a lot of the emotion and intensity of a jury deliberation.

Beyond a reasonable doubt does not mean beyond any absurd possibility.
The defendant was put on the scene by witnesses. The defendant did have motive to shoot at the intended targets. AND the defendant was on video purchasing the gun used in this incident.
In your world, what defines "reasonable?" Do ten witnesses have to see the bullet leaving the defendant's gun and entering the victim's body? How else can we be absolutely sure that the victim wasn't shot by someone else standing on the grassy knoll?
But, I'm starting to angry again and my doctor tells me that its bad for me.
The people of Cook County deserve to be raped and robbed and killed because they do not have the courage or sense to put these animals away or rid themselves of incompetant political-hack judges. The people of this state and this city deserve to be ripped off and taxed to the hilt because they do not have the courage or sense to challenge the political power brokers in this state.
