FBI Shoots Bank Robber

After he got into the front seat of a feeb car and tried to run over an agent:
  • The suspect had robbed a TCF Bank branch earlier Monday morning in the 4300 block of North Sheridan Road and was tracked to the 800 block of North Michigan Avenue, according to the FBI.

After a short foot chase, the suspect was apprehended, according to a release from the FBI. While he was being taken into custody, the man somehow managed to get behind the wheel of an FBI vehicle, then tried to run over one of the arresting FBI agents with that car, the release said. A second FBI agent, fearing for his partner's safety, fired one round from his service weapon into the car, striking the suspect.

No word if the robber was getting some last minute shopping done.

Oh yeah, that's just our stupid policy, not the FEDS, maybe you change that order Weiss.

Wonder why he was cuffed in the front??

In the academy when I was learned to hand-cuff offenders they told us PPO's NEVER cuff in the front cause bad things can happen.

Glad to see the Agent(s) are ok. But next time kiddies, stick to locking up dirty politicians! They are a lot less dangerous, and you can get hurt out there!

Wow, now that is some cool driving skills there. How does a man "taken into custody" (he'd be handcuffed at that point) drive a vehicle with his hands behind his back????

Too cool ....

If you placed CPD in all places in lieu of FBI how many attorney's would be in line already????

I live very close to the TCF bank that was robbed. Just curious if there is any local angle to this robbery. Has there been any news source that has named the suspect? I haven't been able to find any published reports.

I wonder then what would happen if this situation involved the CPD and after the officer(s) involved followed G.O. and just stepped out of the way and 1 block later some minority mom with her kids got mowed down by fleeing offender, who would be at fault?

FBI can use their weapons if physically attacked in any way. The thinking is that since they are armed, if they are struck and become incapacitated in any way, now the bad guy has a gun. Much more liberal policy that actually uses common sense and officer safety instead of political bullshit...can you imagine if we had the same? There would be several police shootings a night in many districts!

Someone with long arm lengths (I've got 36 inch sleeves) could conceivably be handcuffed in back and "wiggle" their butt thru, ending up with hands in front.

Let's see boys and girls, didn't CPD have one escape from custody and walk out of the district just a few days ago? Guy cuffed in back, slipped out of cuffs and made his break. Nice shooting by the agent, one shot through the moving vehicle and hits target. Wish we could have that kind of range time to hit our moving targets! One less pos on the street for awhile.

I'm sure this will be ruled a good shoot as it should be, however if this had been a CPD situation would we be afforded the same ruling? A few years ago we were told we had to "Move out of the way" and they give us the disclaimer about not unreasonably conforming to the order. Who judges whats reasonable and whats not during this kind of situation (after the fact of course)? The review board? The NEW OPS? The Superintendent? The Mayor? It's just this kind of order that can get us killed because of hesitation and this order should be rescinded. It was garbage then and it's garbage now.

Yes I know that part of the order too, Sarge. But that's just put there to protect the city from liability when a copper gets run over and then sues city for following such silly restrictive policy. They still would hang you if had the chance to move, but chose to hold your ground.

And earlier post was right, Weiss didn't put that G.O. in place, but he CAN authorize it's removal.

And Weiss, check out that stupid FBI streaming video(Maybe you starred in it) they show us of 500 hundred rounds being shot into a Box Chevy and it still runs after being lit up. If they really wanted an accurate test, they should've left a ballistic gelatin dummy in the driver's seat and seen how many hits it took.

While much of the pent up resentment against the FBI displayed on this blog is certainly justified, they are to be congratulated for their recent positive developments in the fields of aggressively investigating political corruption/organized crime and street policing. Shooting a bank robber is always a worthy goal. We are merely jealous that our rules make it nearly an impossibility.

Keep in mind that the fed operate on a different plain than CPD,they actually trust the field agents and have faith in their ability to do the job and not allow some nieghborhood rent-a-rev. who's trying to make a name for himself too just walk up and question the agent's good name.If you have a complaint/dout about the agents credability you better have proof and not base it on some crack head who was not on scene but says "yes a saw everything and they excuted him for no reason, just shot him down like a dog ".Remember the feds will have them sign a sworn statement and if's proven that the statement was falsified they will be proscuted to the fullest extent of the law.Unlike our department they will take a complaint no matter how outlandish and untruthful it turns out to be they will not take it any further because the department leader's are a bunch of gutless cowards.
