Felon Wants Pension

A firefighter. But a connected firefighter, so who knows what he'll get:
  • A former Chicago firefighter convicted of arson filed a lawsuit today challenging the recent denial of a city pension.

Jeffrey Boyle, 50, had argued he was entitled to the pension because he did not use Fire Department equipment when he set the blazes, court documents show.

[...] Boyle, a Chicago firefighter for 25 years, was sentenced to 6 years in prison in 2006 after he confessed to setting a series of fires in Chicago and Park Ridge.

His brother, John "Quarters" Boyle, a former city employee, was convicted in 2005 for extorting bribes in the federal Hired Truck probe and in 1992 for embezzling millions in nickels, dimes and quarters from the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

Quarters' conviction in 1992 didn't stop him from gaining politically connected jobs throughout the Daley administration. We don't see why a little thing like an arson conviction ought to stop his brother from collecting firefighters pension.

Hey Boyle, I really hope you die a very unpleasant death.

Well, I DO! Acriminal is a CRIMINAL--one who has committed a crime--and arson is DEFINITELY A CRIME!

Lock him up and throw away the key! JUDGES, stop trying to be so politically correct. If you were in a card game, you would call a spade a apde, wouldn't you?

I'd be very surprised to see this guy get a pension. There's nothing a fireman hates more than an arsonist and the fire union membership will be up in arms over this. They've ousted union presidents before, they'll do it again.

I say give him his 6 years and his pension. What other profession loses their pension based upon a criminal conviction, aside form the police?

I hate to agree with the idiot, but he has a point. If his crime wasn't duty related he should keep his pension.

If a city electrician had set a fire while not on city duty would he lose his pension?

Now hopefully former firefighter Boyle will be struck by lightning and save the pension fund some money.

Do a google search and you will see that "Matches Boyle" was a merit promotee. I'm talking like jumping over 200 people with better test scores to Fire Lieutenant.

Inasmuch as he'd like to be commended and rewarded for "not using CFD equipment to set the fires" they sure used fire equipment to extinguish the blazes.

I love the things people sue over/for. I certainly look forward to the day where PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and HONOR return to the human race.

(somehow my cynical nature tells me I won't see it in my lifetime).

HEY WHY NOT TAKE AWAY MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY IF YOUR R CONVICTED OF A FEDERAL CRIME.

IF U DID THE TIME U GET THE PENSION. CRIMINAL COURTS R THE PEOPLE WHO PUNISH NOT PENSION BOARDS RIGGED BY THE MAYOR.

Off topic - but I just saw channel 9 news this a.m. announcing an upcoming 2009 show on A&E about 4 Chicago cops who moonlight as ghost chasers.

Thought it was interestingly ironic. The mayor and this new department changed me to only chase ghosts but on duty.

Acosta was buddies with "Quarters" before he got nailed stealing from the CPD Heroes fund. His excuse was he was just childhood friends and all those jail visits to his buddy was because he took the guys mother there to visit her son. Gee, wonder if this his how he got all those gravey jobs and promotions?

"Matches" probably set hundreds of fires during his life time. There was some speculation that he did set fires while working on slow days at the house. There were patterns of fires around the houses he worked. Eventually he would have killed people, if in fact he hasn't already. If I am not mistaken the firefighters convicted of arson during the fire strike lost their pensions.

You'll NEVER see it as long as lawyers are part of the equation!

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and HONOR are words that don't exist in law books and lawyers have NEVER really been part of the HUMAN RACE!!!

Let's see, we have a former fireman convicted of arson and now wants his FIREMANS PENSION?

Is it me or does this sound that ridiculous? Nit pick all you want buddy, but the fact of the matter is that you committed a felony. You were convicted of a felony. You have NO right to that pension.

That would make as much sense as if a police officer was convicted of a bank robbery and said that he should still get his police pension because he was off duty and that he did not use a department authorized weapon.

If this idiot gets his pension then the rank and file of the CFD should strike because it will make a mockery of them all.

If he wins, why doesn't the City deduct the cost of the trial, housing his pathetic bastard, the cost of fighting the fires and the paper shuffling? I think he owes the City again. Don't we have a City lawyer that can do that?

While we are at it, shouldn't his brother, another pathetic creep, have a bill to pay?

I feel for the parents. Mr. and Mrs. Boyle were hard working, community dedicated people who are salt of the Earth. It's too bad their sons continue to mar their good name.

They lost one in a fighter jet crash, one to the temptation of cash (a large sum of dough in a literal ton of change), and one to the lure of fire.

Mr. and Mrs. Boyle, thank you for a fabulous childhood and a lifetime of fond memories. My heart aches for your loses. Words cannot express the disappointment and angst of which you must be experiencing.

An Old Family Friend

If I'm not mistaken, if you're convicted of a Felony you lose your City Pension?

For those of you lining up behind him in support, you need your heads examined. 6 years is a Joke, If he torched your property you'd be singing a different tune. Take your nose out of the Muscle Mag & look up the Arson Statutes, the sentence should have been alot longer,a Firefighter no less.
ABSOLUTELY HE SHOULD BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD!!

ot:: 1st watch in 11 lost its leader ,it's mentor ,it's LT last nite so here is our tribute to her:

I’m the LT who knows is all
When in doubt my clout I’ll call
So long, farewell, we’re glad you’re through
Now police work once again we’ll do

Your leadership the worst by far
That I’ve seen since I earned my star
In patrol you never did fit
The entire watch called you idiot

Approve our arrest is all we desire
Not your screeching like your hair’s on fire
Outside units also knew
The pain of enduring your arrest review

Cuase you sucked some bosses balls
Your merit promotion has doomed us all
Mystified we all are
Who you blew to get your bar

Nonsense and useless your orders were each day
But for your politics the blue shirts pay
The girls on Madison work harder than you
As for police work they have more of a clue

Even the newest popo knows
When repeatedly kicked the window blows
So here’s hoping your career will tank
Then all patrol will give their thanks

To laugh and point is so mean
So condolences we send to 214

Governor of Illinois.

George Ryan lost his pension, from all of his various public offices.

But then you might not consider politician a profession. Certainly not an honorable one like prostitution.

So he didn't use fire department equipment when he set the blazes...? That's his justification to get his pension? Gee, what a good guy.

Besides, what equipment would that be? Water filled hoses, maybe a ladder or two? How much equipment does CFD carry that is aimed at setting fires?

Again, screw him.

Leave him alone. The daily stress on a fireman is almost unbearable. You have to share living quarters and cook meals. Sometimes you get a fire call and are supposed to be sober for 24 hrs. I would never last.

This is similar to the contention of that Alderman Bloom turd. I think it was Operation Greylord or maybe it was Silver Shovel where Bloom was convicted of getting kick-backs.

Bloom and what ever piece of shit lawyer he had said something similar and that is, seeing as the kick-backs were not a part of Bloom's job responsibilites (duh...no kick backs are not part of the job), Bloom should not lose his pension.

Thankfully the court told Bloom to go fuck himself.

That's what they should do with this arsonist.

I realize a good lawyer is supposed to do everything possible to protect there client. But, when they come up with stupid shit like this it pisses me off because its not in the spirit of legitimately representing your client using facts and the law, it's perverting facts to pervert the law.

Like that piece of crap State senator Fagan in MA who said he'd destroy any child alledging his client sexually abused them.
