Olympic Bumps

  • The USOC board's stunning decision last week to pressure Jim Scherr out of the CEO job and replace him with Streeter has opened the way for such comparisons and raised myriad questions.

Why is this significant in the 2016 race? Because the USOC and Chicago have trumpeted their bid effort as a partnership, which means both parties are involved in asking the IOC for extraordinary levels of trust to choose Chicago.
The IOC better find out that people who "trust" Shortshanks and the City of Chicago have a bad habit of getting substandard results at over-inflated costs and usually go bankrupt awaiting payment. It's the Chicago way!

Just the pathetic state of the OEMC should scare the shit out of the IOC, let alone the sorry state of the local economy, ie., the fucking tax base that will be expected to finance this waste of taxpayers' dollars.

Can you imagine what the international reaction would be, were the IOC to choose Chicago and, when the time comes, Chicago refuses to host, because there's no money to build shit?

What's more likely, the guy was kicked out because he was promoting Chicago, or was he kicked out because he WASN'T promoting Chicago?

What kinda politics does this action remind you of? A group of supposedly disenterested people or Daley?

That has happened before. The 1980 Winter Olympics were supposed to be held in Denver, but after receiving approval from the IOC to be the host city, voters approved a referendum denying the use of any and all city and state tax money for anything to do with the games. The US committee approached the IOC and asked for permission to have Lake Placid New York be a replacement host site (hosted the Winter Games in 1932, and hosted several winter type events every year). The rest is history.

The 2016 Olympics is a pipe dream. Chicago will never get it.

Unless they can up the amount of bribe money to the IOC.

The Olympics are nothing but one big con job. They used to have some relevance when they were the only game in town and happened but once every 4 years. Now, it's all about the money.

Patrick Ryan is going to have to hire more bagmen.

Chalkie would be a great ambassador for the 2016 Olympics in Tokyo! Every time I'm in Japan, and a Japanese person asks me where I'm from, answering "Chicago" never fails to elicit "ah, Al Capone!" along with air machine gun gestures.
