School spring break is coming, so there's "gonna put more children on the streets as their parents are occupied" as the interview says. Occupied doing what? Why not ask where the hell are the parents? Almost 100% of the CPS students killed are nowhere near school when shot, and most are after curfew. WHERE ARE THE PARENTS? Why not ask this question? How many times have I walked into a domestic at 2am, 3am, 4am and had 2 and 3 year old kids running around as the "parents" were drunk out of their minds with music blaring? Curfew laws mean nothing. Drop the kid off at home, pull away and kid walks right back outside. Let's start putting blame where it belongs: on the parents!Fines don't work because they are not paid. How about mandatory SWAP or community service for anyone whose kid breaks curfew twice? Let's face it, it's a sad fact, but in the worst neighborhoods the only way to get a parents attention isn't through a fine, it could be to make them actually have to get up at 7am and go to work. If they don't show, either double that service time or just arrest them. Unfortunately, it seems the only way to get certain peoples attention is to screw up their play time. The media and reverands want to play the martyr game all the time. How about actually putting responsibility on the parent? If CPS student is shot at 2am on a tuesday night, why is the question always why do they keep dying and not why the hell was he/she out? Our country has become a don't blame me society and unfortunately it's carried over to the media. Put the blame on the parents and absorb the reverands backlash. Maybe people will actually start to get it then.
the fact is that after 2 years suspension and hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost wages & legal fees/ cozzi is going to spend the next 10 years in prison. this after serving his state sentence/ he did not kill the guy, he had a lapse in judgement/ bad day. normally in cook county this would have been a simple battery..
cozzi was a good officer with a clean record and active in the air force reserve. now he loses everything. what he worked for his whole life.
the punishment does not fit the crime. that is the point. even if his actions were not reasonable.

After listening to your interview Jody it is even more clear now that you really have no clue what it takes to be the police nor what its like to be the police. Ill give it to you though you sure know how to dance around questions and not answer them. Particularly when asked how the specialized units are staffed. Maybe we are at 97 % staffed overall. But we arent at the district level. Because you have depleted manpower there to critically low levels due to all the details and clout units being fully staffed. Down cars everynite in busy districts and 99 units on 1st and 3rd watch are not acceptable. But hey at least you learned from the best on how to double talk and not tell the whole truth. Narcotics has been about the same number of officers since '97 or so (Operation "Safe Streets") when 189 and 153 were expanded. Intelligence, SLIGHT increase since the mid ‘90’s. TRU aint that big! Area Detective Divisions look like ghost towns. We are short Patrolman, Det’s, Sgts, and Lts! 35th st has got to have some premium “Mouse Holes” where they are hiding, cause we damn sure don’t see anyone in these beat cars! in the 80's and '90s, we had Summer Mobil, Beat Cars, Rapids, 2-3 wagons, -06 cars were up ON ALL 3 WATCHES! Over all I thought the interview went well (for Weis) with a few soft ball questions that were probably given in advance so he could have a prepared answer. The Cozzi auestion and answer seemed to echeo statements straight from the blog.
But Mr Weis nobody says Cozzi was right to have smacked the guy. I wont argue the points of your answer or even the way you describe the event even though I cant see a black jack or for that matter any object in his hands. But 10 years is way more then the Rodney King incident officers got sentenced too, and those officers did NOTHING wrong. They did what they were trained to do. If Cozzi was anything other then a white male this would have been over a long time ago. Sorry to ALL my brothers in blue, but that's how I feel.
Before you blast me over the Rodney King comment read "Presumed Guilty" by Sgt Kuntz.

I know Cozzi he is a great guy! What was done to him words cannot describe! All the kids in msf and tru and the so called "tac teams" take notice you do anything j-fed will make examples of all of you! You work you lose house-money-wife/husband-kids-everything GONE POOF! When i last talked to Mike Cozzi in person it made me a "tough copper" cry! Talk about injustice!! That is the day I quit doing anything!

Its a joke of a unit with a bunch of strokes. The only bigger jokes are the Dept of Revenue AKA TRU
There are rising reports of attacks on our schools. I know they touched on this subject in TARA training. I have seen/trained too many of these "John Wayne" officer's that just because they are equipped now with a rifle they think they can take on the world.
If you are responding to an attack on a school remember that there are most likely going to be 4-5 heavily armed men with body armor.
I have been telling everyone I train how important it is to #1 SECURE the perimeter...If you have a RIFLE or just your PISTOL I don't care if you hear gun fire or if your kids or the mayor's kids go to that school stay outside and secure the perimeter. #2 CALL for SWAT and continue to SECURE the PERIMETER. #3 TAKE COVER. If the gunfire inside the school is continuing just stay calm and make sure they are not shooting at you.
If they are executing children inside they are most likely shooting downward so watch out for ricochet bullets. #4 DO NOT LET THEM ESCAPE.
Hopefully when SWAT gets there it will be our turn to do some damage.
Remember...running into a school with heavily armed men is a suicide mission and they want/expect first responders too rush in so they can kill as many of us as they can. Be smarter than them and do what your trained to do and don't let your emotions get in the way. Be safe. See you at the range!

I thought the same thing myself... If you really want to show the administration the mayor and the people a job action that will show unity. All the officers in MSF and TRU need to say "No thanks" I'll go back to the district with the rest of my workers in Blue.
And NO I dont want your spot to give up contractual rights concerning deployment & details. I like my 10 minute drive to work and consistent schedule. How would he put the X in the box then?
All you MSF'ers are selling out your brothers/sisters in blue. You keep making arrests so Jody can say that arrests are up and morale is good. You just don't see the big picture. You are the problem with this job, hell I even bet you didn't show up to City Hall either. Rumor has it that your Commander in Chief Jimmy Roussell gave word that it was npt a good idea to attend.
That's okay though in a few years when you actually realize that this job can turn on you and they can hang you out ot dry in a minute then you may do the right thing and not worry about being in a unit where you can tell war stories to the college girls at the bar in order to get laid.
You are the problem why we cannot get together and agree on an issue as a collective grpoup, why you ask well that's easy because they tell you how cool it is to be in MSF and how you are the best of the best, please give me a break they do the same thing in Gang Intelligence as well as Narcotics.

Hey Weis when you promote some dummy by merit what are you telling the guy next in line on the list who should have been promoted. Two idea:(actually three)
1. Drop all the little "walking paychecks" off on the doorstep of the ever so vocal reverends for day care.
2. After these mutts squeeze out the 2nd paycheck cut the welfare off..

Excellent point... JFED keeps saying that all he wants from us is for us to be reasonable... perhaps HE should lead by example... this punishment is not reasonable.
Back in the mid 90's my district used to have about 3 or 4 incident cars up every night, all the beat and rapid cars were 10-4 units. Where did all the P.O.'s go

Crime is going through the roof, we are in a continuous backlog, and the districts are way undermanned, but J-Fed believes his pet officers should be able to spend one hour of their tour working out, nice, real nice! Hey boss, can I work out for an hour after roll call before I hit the streets?

Uuuugh, he did have a blackjack, which is why he was fired. That being said, he did not deserve what's happening now. We should be held to a higher standard, but this is rediculous.
Sup Weis, your # 1 priority should be Officer safety, not morale. With good leadership and backing comes good morale. This isn't going to happen on your watch, ever. You can never come back from where you are.
The next guy crazy enough to take this job (it will be from within this time) will have an uphill battle. He can start by not lying to us all the time. We are Police Officers. The built-in B.S. detector kinda comes with the job.
Let me give the next guy a little start. Get rid of all these stupid missions. They are made up and just silly. They crush morale. Put the Officers back in patrol, get rid of the RAPs and let us do our jobs. Put plenty of manpower back in the cars, give us a little time from doing the silly missions and you will be amazed that the Officers will actually combat crime on their own. No calling in the IDSSRs and putting it off on someone else. We'll cleanup our own Beats with our co-workers if you let us, just like we used to.

Hey Jody I must admit you are probably one of the best Superintendent in regards to public speaking, you are one of the worst in comprehension.
No one and I mean No One I have spoken to in regards to Cozzi saids that what he did wasn't wrong or didn't deserved to be punished.
We have a judicial system and Police Board who also saw the video and felt that a misdemeanor charge and two year suspension was appropriate for the crime caught on video. Even the victim voiced no complaints on the punishment given to Cozzi.
It wasn't until Cozzi was about to return to duty that YOU decided there was no place for a Bill Cozzi in your new and improved CPD. You attempted to have him discharged and when the Police Board said NO, that Cozzi had proven to be a asset to the Department and had served his punishment, that is when you made your call. You over stepped your position as Superintendent and basically said that the Cook County States Attorney's Office, Cook County Judge, and the Police Board did not know how to do their jobs. But most of all showed the men and women of the CPD that the checks and balances that are in place to be fair to police officer do not come out to your satisfaction you will by-pass them all and get someone 10YEARS IN A FEDERAL PRISON FOR A MISDEMEANOR CRIME!!!!!!!!!

This video is very clear about what we, the first responders (THAT WOULD BE US IN BEAT CARS ) are supposed to do when we come upon the scene. Now since that is all the training that we, THE GUYS IN BEAT CARS, THE FIRST RESPONDERS, the ones with the .357's and .45's or 9mm pistols, not the ones with military weapons, have received, then maybe you should let the guys that taught you that we are supposed to wait, and hide and wait for whatever they are called nowadays, task force, sog, sos, hbt, swat, mop, mfs mfu, that we don't have the same training that you professionals do. So maybe someone can make a new video and we can watch it in roll call so we be well trained and ready and will be able to respond to children getting shot, without having any emotions, staying calm and hiding, even if its my kid or the kids of my officers in there. Now please don't get me wrong, this post in no way is directed at you personally, but directed at what is WRONG WITH THIS F--KED UP DEPARTMENT. HOW IN THE HELL ARE WE TRAINED TWO DIFFERENT WAYS? Now, in my short career my experience has been all those coppers talking crap and pointing fingers at other coppers are nothing more than pencil pushing pogs that don't do nothing but "answer phones in the area", sit in there squad car and just answer their calls, and complain about the contract and getting sued. I place no blame on any copper for wanting to do what he or she wants to do with their career. I blame all you coppers that don't do shit, make excuses for not doing shit (and the list of excuses is never-ending), and then mother F@cK your brother and sister coppers for handling their career they way they want. Handle your business the way you want and let others do what they want without judgement. I mean, come on its TRU and MSF fault we don't have a contract, let them negociate their own contract, they are all 2 year wonders! Listen to yourselves, man we are our own worst enemies. And most of you coppers talking about "2 year wonders" are most likely 4 to 5 year wonders who never done anything anyway and use the excuse of no contract to support your dogness! I haven't made a 1811, drinker or pisser arrest in years...I back up my fellow officers, it doesn't matter what district or unit their with...I have been to numerous benefits, I can't even count how many...I have been to D.C. for the National police memorial several times, Springfield for our state memorial, Texas for theirs, and to our own Chicago memorial...
I don't tell my family about my job exploits, or brag to other officer's about my arrests (who cares)
yet with 12 yrs of experience (AND ONLY 2 CR#'S) I get criticized by fellow officers for joining MSF...really what do you care? I'm not forced to make arrests or generate revenue and i don't!!!
You make this job work for you...you don't work for this job....were all ordinary people doing an extraordinary job...
My experience with Msf has been great...The bosses treat you with respect, back you up, and appreciate good work...unlike some of the districts I have been in...

When that didn't work she actually called a local Alderscum who called the D/C back and demanded she be put back on the car. The D/C caved and re-instated her. She is a no good, back stabbing wench that is lower than the dirt a snake crawls on. Stay away from her. She's bad,bad news. What she needs is a good dose of Deidre.

MR managed to "arrest" someone for a broken headlight and demand the MERIT W/C allow her to long-form her because the driver dared insult her highness. The fearful MERIT W/C caved and sent the TVB'd woman to 025 EVEN THOUGH-the woman had a valid DL, a valid ID in her pocket and the charge was NON-PRINTABLE. A full-on illegal arrest made it all the way to 025 before she was RWOC'd. The MERIT W/C in 014 was told you can't arrest her...but was afraid P.O. MR would get a CR (again) so it was approved. Well Mr. Range Guy, I have to ask is that your opinion or Dept policy? I would remind you and others that it may be a suicide misison to go into such a situation, BUT on the other h and, like or not, part of the job is to protect the innocent. It is impossible for a rational individual to prejudge every possible situation, as you are doing. I suspect that in most, perhaps all, situations the mere act of the first responders rushing the scene, while it may cost the lives of some of the responders, it may also save the lives of many inside. I guess in the long run it is up to your conscience to decide, not some holier than thou range instructor.

Do you really think any copper with a shred of common sense will wait for SWAT to arrive, set up the command post, perimeter etc... while some disengaged goof is killing children?
