Poll: Fewer Americans support stricter gun control laws
Story Highlights
Poll: 54 for percent favored stricter laws in 2001, compared with 39 percent today

Long-term decline in support for gun control coincided with a decline in murder rate

Sudden change may be influenced by politics, namely the Obama administration

Nearly all the decline is from people who don't identify themselves as Democrats

O.T. Was driving down 35th St. last night on my way to get gas. Saw a few Dept. of Revenue workers slapping parkers on cars from Halsted to Shields. I'm sure most of those owners were at the Sox game. As I drove by they gave me this friendly wave as if we were brothers in arms. I just shook my head at them.

Tell the revs to stock up on D-cells for their bullhorns, "Stop Killing People" signs, T-shirts, and ball caps, etc.

Every day the revs march, pray, wave their arms. Every night the feet go pelting down the gangways, the unintelligible shouts echo, and the shots fly.

Day, night, day, night...

I don't think anyone's listening anymore. In fact, I don't think they ever were.

I got ticketed by Chicago Police coming into the city to get to St. Elizabeth Hospital ER after my 5 year old son had fallen off his bicycle and split his chin open where the helmet didn't cover.

Hmmmm. FUNERAL...fellow PO is already dead vs. parent who is called at work to say his son fell of bike and told split his head open trying to get to hospital to be at child's side. I can see why you'd be ticked off at IN State Trooper.

Find this hard to believe. I'd believe it in Ohio, Michigan or Pennslyvania from their SPs, they'd ticket their own mothers, but not Indiana.

Isn't it also amazing how for the last week there was barely a mention of any local shootings/murders/crime stories covered on the channel 2, 5, 7, 9 or 32 newcasts? Coincidentally, the Olympic committee delegates all flew out of town yesterday afternoon. Suddenly this morning that's all channel 9 could talk about.

-Woman missing from Bellwood from last Sunday found in a trunk at 68/State. Wouldn't they want to have her picture on the news Sunday evening so people can be on the lookout for her?

-32nd CPS "honor student" killed in a dice game

-Fatal crash on the dangerous Oak Street curve of Lake Shore Drive.

See? The mayor was right. EVERYONE wants the game here. Even the criminals wanted to make a good impression to the IOC, so they waited until the last plane took off. I guess we owe them all an apology.

He was only 15, where did the "bundle" of cash reported in the news come from? Was gambling sanctioned by the family?

Where were they in this time of violence a short distance from home?

Yes, Phlemger was on the camera again BUT why focus on guns when DICE games are at the heart of so many killings?

Idea, let's think about this.

There is all this media coverage at shooting scenes, and only a Department approved talking head speaks to the media.

Naturally, the talking head, with a good job, a take home car does not want to jeopardize that by standing up to a camera and lights and telling the truth about why there was not adequate police coverage there.

WHAT IF, an FOP REP, a RETIRED COP who has some media savvy could be at the scene and talk to the reporters. By being retired he is untouchable, he could tell the truth and this would be the face Shortshanks would see on the evening news.

It would drive the Evil Midget into a stroke.

(OT) Just got this from fop website. This is the same ruling coming for a sergeant and a patrolwoman dumped from 051! Why does this girl in charge terrorize everyone?

JISC GRIEVANCE COURT AWARD 03/30/09

In 2006 the Dept opened the Juvenile Intervention and Support Center and opened it up for bid to Detectives. No one bid and the Department filled it "at the Department's discretion". These officers soon bid out of the JISC and the Dept then involuntarily detailed a different group of officers to the JISC. After their details ended they were then involuntarily assigned to the JISC based upon the "valuable experience" they had obtained during their involuntarily detail.

The Lodge went to arbitration and the arbitrator found the original transfers were OK because no one had bid, however the subsequent Detail and reassignment violated the contract. He awarded the officers time and one half for each day they were improperly detailed

The City took the rare move to file in court and ask a judge to set aside the arbitrator's award. Our attorneys fought the City on this. On today's date Judge Peter Flynn rejected the City's arguments and confirmed the Arbitrator's award of time and one half to these officers.

They are everywhere, in alleys, back yards, side streets, main streets, climbing on fences, in school yards, everywhere. So I wonder is the city saving a little coin by cutting back on pest abatement. It's starting already. The city must have gotten paid by Glock big time. According to a letter to the LT's association, the only duty related weapon anyone can carry is an approved Glock. It's a money grab for registration money and just fucked up. Our guns will be granfathered in, but you can't purchase another ---say--doa S & W as a duty weapon unless it is a replacement and carry it on duty. And you'll have to pay the registration on it also. What a crock of shit...

This is just an emotional hook used to give liberal ed-yoo-cay-tors an excuse to go messing into gun control, a way for them to get grants and form "committees" to "study" the problem and produce "reports."

Of course, we've already got "CeaseFire" and the revs with their bullhorns, always looking for grants.

Let's see -- since streets and alleys are also "workplaces" (repairmen, delivery men, cabbies, etc.) these shootings could also do double-duty as "violence in the workplace." More forms, grants, committees!

Oh! I forgot. The killings are also a "public health problem," enabling the liberals in the medical business and related NGOs-without-portfolio to apply for grants and form committees to issue reports.

There is a good living to be made off all of this, always flying around to "conferences" with bundles of papers under one's arm.

The stark truth is that Marquell there is literally worth more dead than he is alive to these people.

By the way, we never used to say "tenth-grader." After eighth grade, you went to high school -- freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. It is important today that even the hulking 210-pound, 6'5" specimen remain a "child" as long as possible so that his demise can be recorded as "violence against children."

Another grant. Another committee, another conference. Another report.

Another dice game.

Pop! Pop! Pop!

OT--

"Welcome to the Chicago Police Department's CLEARpath site which offers the community a means to share important information, find the latest news, programs and community oriented services that the Department offers. Since the inception of the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS), the partnership between the Department and the community has proved overwhelmingly positive as we share responsibility to keep our neighborhoods safe. With your continued assistance, this approach to joint problem solving will continue to be an effective tool to fight crime throughout the city."

It'd be really impressive if it worked.

Just for a lark, I decided to try reporting a fresh dope set.

Thing takes forever (especially on a dialup connection) to load various "diversity"-oriented slide shows with carefully-chosen photos of smiling faces of every race imaginable, videos of people in African robes and Indian saris walking around -- have I contacted an anthropological museum by mistake? -- then takes me through about six screens of instructions and nervous questions.

"If you have an emergency call 911."

"This isn't an emergency, is it?"

"Are you sure?"

"Really sure?"

"If you press this button, your report will be submitted to the CAPS office in the order in which it was received."

"Do you understand that?

"Are you sure you understand that?"

The next screen loaded up blank white, and reported "DONE."

*

I sat there and stared for a while.

Blank white screen.

That was that.

I get the message. Screw it. Let 'em sling.

And then how about the 100 people who got in to fights at the baptist church in Hammond. Two cops hurt trying to bring it under control.Thirteen arrested. If you live on the south side, you see these blue busses all over. They go into the ghetto and bring kids to church. Many of these kids have never been to church. So much for Palm Sunday services.

Speaking of the Olympic games, here's a "must read" for y'all:

"AND THEY CALL THEM GAMES: An Inside View of the 1996 Olympics" by C. Richard Yarbrough, Mercer University Press (2000), ISBN 0-86554-706-8.

In an earlier thread, I strongly urged Dirty Little Richie to declare it as his latest "One Book, One Chicago" selection as our erudite scholar's semiannual mayoral recommendation.

Unfortunately and understandably, the entire CPL system has but one copy. It's out.

Don't blame the late Marquell Blake's proclivity for a dice game. It's part of the subculture.

As a rookie, I remember the payday roll calls in ol' Fillmo'. After cashing their paychecks at Sears on Arthington St., with roll call in progress, half the coppers were shooting craps in a corner of the squad room.

Hysterical memories!

Tenth-grader Marquell Blake was headed for a dice game Wednesday when an man shot the teenager in the chest, killing him on the street just a few blocks from his family home, relatives said.

Blake, 15, was on spring break when he was shot about 12:30 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Carpenter Street, police said. He was the 32nd Chicago Public Schools student slain this school year.

37 eyewitness's and the family still not speaking with the police. expect a protest against the police for racially profiling the dead victim because he was black.

If any one followed the stroy of teh stolen plane flying into US airspace being chased by F16 closed down Madison and landed in Missouri. Left out how it got to Missouri from Wisconsin... amazing how the news did not report that the plane crossed Chicago airspace.... until after the IOC left. then all the stations reported how the plane was in Chicago airspace for two hours.

This summer is going to be hot.
Check your pistol, your holster and make sure you dont have anything bad like weak magazine springs or any other issues. If the slide fails to lock back on an empty magazine, you need a wolf spring kit or a new magazine. Flashlight battery ? Bad switch on the polystinger ? Red plunger showing? You can change a stinger switch in 5 minutes with a phillips screwdriver and a paper clip. { total cost $9.95} Fix it... stay safe and dont tip the tahoes like fred flinestone at the drive in !

4/09/2009 02:05:00 AM

Those cars from Halsted to Shields are probably suburban assholes that pay big money to see a White Sox game. Before and after the game, they treat the surrounding neighborhood like their personal toilets and waste cans. They piss and vomit in the bushes and on the lawns, they throw empty & 1/2 filled beer bottles, water bottles and everything else you can imagine into the streets and on the lawns, they throw their garbage out the windows of their cars, they drive over the parkways and they blair their car horns, car alarms and drunken voices. On the rare chance that a copper has a chance to write a ticket or a Department of Revenue person is assigned to the area, the neighborhood residents thank them for their efforts when they see them.

Even though their is permit parking during ball games, it is a joke. These White Sox supporters go to the alderman's office and are freely issued a permit to park in the neighborhood or they get a neighborhood friend who lives blocks away from the ballpark to give them a temporary permit, however, they use it all year long. They are so blatant, they display a neighborhood parking permit with a suburban vehicle sticker or no vehicle sticker at all. So when a copper or a revenuer writes these assholes, the neighborhood residents are thankful! You can shake your head all you want, but let them do their jobs!

>>>Rats Rats Rats

I have been driving around the 010th district and have observed a bad rat infestation. They are everywhere, in alleys, back yards, side streets, main streets, climbing on fences, in school yards, everywhere. So I wonder is the city saving a little coin by cutting back on pest abatement. It would not suprise me if this was the case, anyone else see an unusually high number of rats. Less Police and more Rats this is a Daley administration eutopia

4/09/2009 01:35:00 PM<<<
Rats Rats Rats

We have also been complaining about all the broken concrete from the island and curbs in front of the station. All that glass in the front and sooner or later some angry goof, or a mob of angry goofs is going to pick up those chunks and smash those big plate glass windows, or squad card windshields or some cops skull.

If someone gets hurt from broken concrete, can they sue if the city knew about the hazard.

Maybe we can get it fixed if we tell them it is for the Olympics.

"The Indiana State Police also ticketed two officers and a Sgt. driving home from NY after they helped with the clean up days after 9/11. They deserve no special treatment.

4/09/2009 11:04:00 AM"

This may or may not have happened, and this story may be planted. This also may have been a "Warning Ticket" which means nothing except that the trooper may be on video, GPS and all that.

When I was stopped some time ago in Indiana, I asked for professional courtesy. The same professional courtesy which I gave over the years to every other cop I ever ran into including a few from Indiana. I got a "Warning Ticket", no big deal and I was on my way.

Stay safe, and don't start a war over a rumor.
