Busy morning in 016
One offender dead, one still at large. Careful over there, boys and girls.
Good job, Detectives and Officers.
UPDATE: Reports are that there was only one offender and the search for a second has been called off.

Good Job guys!......And they say 016 is a retirement district?
great job officers
Any physical description on the robber who fled? I live nearby.
OT: Anyone have any information on what happened at the Portiability Meeting Yesterday at 35th street?
Thankfully, the Detective did his job, very well. Congratulations.
Nice to have the FBI along as a witness?
RIP Detective Joe Airhart, another good Detective, who also had backup, way, way backed up.
Thats right get them before they get you!!! Be careful out there!!
Would have caught other offender but 5300 screwed it all up. Good job boss and thanks for blanket cr on cops involved.
It only took 35 armed robberies to catch him too!!!!!

FANTASTIC JOB!!!!!
Great job to the CPD dic and FBI agent!
dun..dun..dun..dun...ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!!!!!!
Just when I think all is lost I see the members of the Department save the day. This guy was involved in a big robbery pattern including A3,A5,Skokie and Niles great job by the mission teams, Detectives, and Bosses for recognizing this and doing what it takes. Thanks also to all hte Burb PDs for being more than willing to lend a hand
As long as cpd is ok hope they kill all these jagoffs! Look at the "cost savings" for the people that pay the bills!
WGN is the most police friendly of all the major media in Chicago! Hell, they even let CPD use their helicopter. Thanks WGN!
I was on cumberland this morning and saw a SWAT Tahoe responding. Thank god the good guys are ok.
Remember a shooting can happen anywhere, even in 016.
Looks more like Harwood Hgts. not Chicago. But of course the offenders were probably from Chicago.
Wanted to be the first to give a big thank you to all the police from 016, A/5, A/3 Harwood Heights and the FBI for the great job they did today. My Mother-in law was the victim of this armed robbery and if not for the great response from all the police involved who knows what could have happened. Again a big thank you to all involved and you know who you are.
D. Rodriguez
023rd District
He probably went to Wright College up the street. LOL!
There WAS only one offender - surveillance film showed only one.
Good job, glad the good guys came out of this safe.
It boggles the mind reading the comments in the papers where some people get their information. What worries me about this poster is he is calling for the shooting of the police and innocent victims. The below from the Scum-Times and there is a similar one in the Trib.
"The Chicago Police and FBI Agents shot a man 32 times in the head and chest, who was suspected of being a gas station robber, who had committed allegedly 30 different robberies. The Chicago Police and FBI planted a gun on the man, after they had filled the man's body with bullet holes, to cover up their mistaken idenity.
But even if the man was a robber, he never hurt anybody that he was robbing, and the money is insured. So all bank and gas station's robbers, please beware, you might as well kill as many Pigs, and innocent people as you can, because the gun happy, Chicago Police and FBI are not taking any prioners alive. This is another horrible signal which will cost the lives of innocent victims. It is just as easy totake a suspect alive, rather than to blow his brains out with your new, Chicago Police issued M4 Assualt rifles. Hey no wonder that Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley wants a a ban on assault weapons, because he want's the Chicago Police and FBI to continue to kill innocent people?"
Be very careful out there.

Like Pat Foley says, " He shoots , he scores!"
Or like Hawk Harrelson says , "Gas , He Gone!!"
Great Job Detective!!! Better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6!! God Bless!
Great job guys. This is the best outcome, bad guy dead nobody else hurt. On a side note, did you read some of the comments below the article? Some moron ranting about a police state and a goof black panther saying it's cold blooded murder, unreal.

Oh my God! That's CopLand!Good work in protecting "the Homeland".
nice job officers. thank god you are alright.
THE BEVERLY AREA NOW NEEDS THESE P.O'S. THAT WERE INVOLVED IN THE 016TH DIST. THE AREA IS GETTING POUNDED AND I MEAN POUNDED BY RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES. WHILE THE 022ND DIST SLEEPS. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
So did any of the Feebs shoot or did they leave it all up to the detective? Will he be granted immunity when the family comes out of the woodwork to sue, saying he didn't have no gun, he was just getting his morning flaming hots and grape pop before heading off to his GED classes? He WAS turning his life around and all. Good shoot detective. Way to show the feds how to to deal with a armed criminal on the street WITHOUT a fully equped SWAT team with assault weapons. Hopefully they don't hang you out to dry.
Good work. What is the description of the other jag off in the event I'm getting gas or a cup o joe on the way to work?
Nice to see the FBI guy didnt have the balls to fire a round. Must be a J-Fed thing.
OT: Toddster the fucking idiot was on WLS this morning and was quoted as follows:
"My first step is talk to the other elected officials, the treasurer, the sheriff and see what's on their mind," he said. "Why do an exercise in fertility (sic) if they don't really care about what happens..."
Exercise in fertility? WTF? How this moron is still in office is beyond me, but then again how the mumbling midget keeps getting elected is a fucking mystery too.
Thanks to all who helped including the surrounding towns that sent beat cars to canvass. Nice to see we still drop everything, leave our egos and roll on something when an officer needs help.
these assholes were good for at least fifty armed robberies--- case closed at the cost of a few bullets....
Glad the good guys are ok and the bad guy lost. Thanks to all involved.

You can bet on 1 thing the 016 Dist. tact team wasnt there. They were too busy locking up drinkers and pissers. Better look at the stats before you wish for something, you cant park a car in the 10 sector without it getting its window smashed or stolen.
Make sure that all of you officers dont talk about the operation or shooting otherwise the FBI will come after you for theft and disclosure like they did that Marshall......jag offs
FOR THE 22ND DISTRICT YOU NEED TO SWITCH THE OFFICERS OUT WITH LETS SAY 3,4,6,8TH DISTRICT OFFICERS, BECAUSE 22 CANT HANDLE THIS KIND OF PRESSURE. WHEN ALL IS CALM THEY CAN BE SENT BACK!!
WGN is the most police friendly of all the major media in Chicago! Hell, they even let CPD use their helicopter. Thanks WGN!
5/06/2009 12:33:00 PM
why? Was "air 1" too busy providing cover for some bosses kid's graduation party??? Air 1.... gimme a break! Why do we even have that damn thing? So we can pretend to be a real department? Our squad cars look like 1970 reject cars, our "computers" never work, our radioes can hold a charge for about 6 hours, we are under armed, under staffed, yet some dingle berry decided it would be a great idea to have "air 1" and waste everyones money and it isnt even around for a cop shooting where a possibly armed suspect was possibly roaming the neighborhood?!?! What a joke! Thanks, WGN, for the helicopter... I guess this wasnt important enough for ours to be over head!!! CPD=JOKE!!!

Funny ....
Since there are so many "leaks" and "inside words" and this research is being done by our own CPD brothers and sisters with ties to 24 hour reports and personnel files working on the 5th floor confidentially...
And we the so called "police" who seem to secretly pride ourselves on scandal from knowing it all just like the media does and that is what we also claim to protest.
RUMORS can be twisted and made so called "truth" in our FEEBLE minds as well as the citizens that read the shit that is printed.
Why can't the media's brass relieve their payrolls of the USELESS reporting staffs and "scoop journalists" and INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS and just PAY THOSE FROM THE 5th FLOOR OR DET. DIVISION THAT LEAK SHIT!
Or are they already secretly paying for the third hand information to our inside rats that hold onto files on the 5th floor!
NICE SIDE JOB!
Think of what those in these positions of integrity and trust working with officers files can make releasing info to a media friend that they knew since High School or grew up with or know from social function, who in turn gives out the information third party to one of his journalist buddies at the TRIB!
I guess we'll never know and someone elses career at the papers becomes quite successful with these first hand reports so to make a story first!
And while the Det or SGT. being a silent partner is railroading police by what he or SHE knows or thinks they know and by what they read or find out from their inside position down at headquarters!
Keep giving the boys a heads up like you did before when the un-named/unknown officer beefs came in the area while your integrity and career is an embarrassment and travesty. A career that no one especially any REAL POLICE would respect nor want to be around or even marry but one did!
AREA 5 DET.

Excellent job to all officers/agencies involved. Thank you so much for keeping us taxpaying and law abiding citizens safe.
Thank you for all you do and God bless you all.
Please be aggressive with these pieces of sh_t that come into our last city havens that we are forced to live in due to city jobs.
Pull them over and do what is needed to let them know we will not stand for such things in our NW side neighborhoods.
Great job CPD! Thank you!
Det D.C. did an outstandimg job. I'm glad it turned out well and he's going home to his family.I've got nothing good to say about the FED though.

When you guys hear the WHOLE TRUE STORY you will see that the DET. did a fantastic job. From who first spotted the vehicle, the call for an assist, the flash, even the round table.J-Fed will try and include the feds in this(one was there)but it was CPD and ALL CPD. You can't teach this. This is real police work. This is why we need to be paid respectfully.
You wouldn't understand this mayor because you have had bodyguards all your life and you're really a pussy of a man. And weis, you'll never understand this either because you're not the police and lets face it,we know what your type do when things like this happen.

There are more insiders than on the street on any given day. Good Job to the all the P.O.S from the other units

Blame the district's command staff. They have to set the tone.
Just watching CNN with Campbell Bell and they did a huge special segment on Chicago's crime rate and how it is such a dangerous place for children to grow up. More great press for this wonderful city. The fine tax paying people of this ity need to know the truth and know that this city really is bad and needs more police. Streets falling apart, crime and murder on the rise and the highest taxes by far. I hope the taxpayers read this site and demand that they get better city services and more police for themoney they pay instead of cameras.
35 dead kids as of today! maybe they should hire more police

A Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, motorcycle officer pursued and stopped a Jeep for driving the wrong way up an exit ramp this afternoon. When he got off his cycle to approach, the driver put the vehicle in reverse and knocked him down. He was able to draw and fire, hitting the driver in the back. The Jeep, which turned out to be stolen with stolen tags from another vehicle, crashed less than a block away. The shooting is under investigation by the Tulsa Police Department since that's where the pursuit ended and the shooting took place.
I've heard that the driver died since. No confirmation from the media.

Anderson Cooper is doing a special on CNN tonight at 10pm on the Chicago Police Dept response to the climbing murder rate in the public school system
I'm not a policeman, but why did it take 30 armed robberies to find/kill the bad guy?
Don't really care how "top notch" the FBI agents were. I would rather go thru a door with a mall security guard then one of those over paid wanna be's. They left Det Airhart to die, then had the balls to "stand" guard at his hospital room.
Good job goes to our Detective for stepping up and doing what Robert Grants wonder boys could not. Kudos CPD and all the other police agency's that helped.

CPD does not run...but we stand and fight!!!! The Feds....ummm...well....ummmm...I got nothing. They think they are better than us....always look down on us..including J-Fed, but when you put the cards on the table, our courage is unsurpassed. 36th CPS student killed this school year.
Wednesday, May 06, 2009 | 5:27 PM
A 16-year-old Crane High School student was killed while walking his younger sister to school in Chicago's Garfield Park neighborhood...
"The guy was taking his sister to school and somebody shot him in the head."
The murder happened just as community activists are taking drastic measures to draw attention to the ongoing effort to stop gun violence. Father Michael Pfleger hung an upside down flag in front of Saint Sabina Church. It's an old symbol of distress, and Pfleger says, he knows it's a radical move.
Mayor Daley said he understands Father Pfleger's motive for turning the flag upside down.
"In America people are killing each other. You write headlines about Mexico and Afghanistan, you should write how people are killing each other with guns," said Mayor Daley."
Except when the IOC is in town, of course...

At least 30 wounded in weekend violence.
Sunday, April 20, 2008 | 11:47 PM
By Evelyn Holmes
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Gun violence made it a deadly weekend on some of Chicago's streets. Police Superintendent Jody Weis places the blame on too many guns and gangs. The victims have ranged in age from 12 to 65.
The Chicago Police Department says it definitely has a plan. By ABC 7 News' count, six shootings were fatal over the weekend. CPD puts that number at four. Regardless of the number, after another weekend of gun violence, Chicago Police blame a rash of shootings on too many guns and the gangs that use the weapons illegally...."

Hey asshole...the 16th, 17th and 25th district were there earlier in the week and were given a break on the early start today due to the number of outside units working on the pattern. If you're such a great policeman and can handle 30 square miles by yourself, please, by all means, come show us how it's done. Otherwise Shut The Fuck Up ! Drinkers and pissers are part of quality of life issues that need to be addressed in the 16th district. If burglars were so easy to catch, there wouldn't be any left...right ? By the way, we do occasionally catch burglars and large amounts of narcotics and even guns. Lemme guess, you get at least 1 rock a day ? My 16 year old could probably pick a hype or crackhead out of a group of people, so you're 1 rock a day is good for only 1 thing, court. Big deal. So bigmouth, come show us how the "real police" do it or keep your uneducated opinion to yourself!
CHALKIE has been very busy Wednesday night. Things lit up in 003 (they could've really used the extra help from that 14 y.o. PO wannabe) and Chalkie made an early appearance this morning in 011 taking the life of another of our city's fine high school students.
From the South to the far Northwest all in one day. Chalkie is on the prowl!!!
OT: you guys in 006 did an awesome job with the on-view shots fired today, nice that all of you were safe and bad guys went to jail...
SCC you gotta do a thread on the fake father flagger dirt bag Mf'r flying our beloved American Flagg upside down for his political gain. And our corrupt fake Mayor backing the idea. This had got to be a new low and an insult to all Americans especially the ones who gave their lives for this country.
These two clowns don't know the first thing about honor and sacrafice. We all know the fake father flagger is just a getto rat with no common sense, but our Mayor should know better being in his position. A BUG FUCK YOU TO THEM BOTH!!!!!

Slick, but not slick enough."
If you actually read the original comment- the poster on this blog was quoting a post from a newspaper (the public forum)-specifically comments left after an article. If you read it- it was police bashing- not sarcasm.
If you don't understand something, read it out loud until it makes sense-or ask a friend in a more advanced grade to read it and explain it to you- then counter with your commentary.
off topic-what happened to the sergeant's VEBA vote?
too many gangbangers, and too many guns.....?......some estimates show that about 20,000 parolees return to the Chicago area every year (enough to fill the United Center); gang membership in Chicago is estimated at 50,000 (give or take?)....how many gun background purchase checks did the US run in the months after Obama was elected?; 1.5 million or so? firearm possession in the US has been estimated at 9 firearms (handguns, rifles, shotguns, etc.) for every 10 residents, meaning 270million (hey, give a guy a break) firearms out there.....are the liberals wasting their time? or is it time to buy more guns?....
The sad thing is that district officers, whether in uniform or tact, do not know what other units are doing within their districts. The only deconfliction is within Hidta, and that is focused on dope and guns.
I don't know the answer to this, but it is sad to hear all of you defending yourselves as to who did what and who you thought should have done what. Be happy and proud that there was a crew of policemen out there focused on the bad guy, and they were obviously targeting the right bad guy and got him - and got him good.

That's some good old Police work right there! Great fucking job, and not a scratch on the police!

This was SOP for Robbery Detectives for a long time. Nice to see some are getting back to their roots.
Big deal. So bigmouth, come show us how the "real police" do it or keep your uneducated opinion to yourself
Another 016 dist.Tact team member that couldnt catch a burglar if they turned themself in. The Beat cars do all the work there. You are all paper jumpers and the WHOLE city knows it. Maybe You should learn how to look at the 24 hr reports and make a "QUALITY" arrest, because we all know once you bring that drinker in you are done for the day. Great Job to all the outside units for a good outcome.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS personnel in Indiana who contract Parkinson's will now be eligible for enhanced benefits.
On Friday, Gov. Mitch Daniels signed the law that recognizes Parkinson's as a line-of-duty disability.
In 2005, he was the lead investigator of a large paint warehouse fire. The contents of the fire building included several paint trucks, painting materials, and paint chemicals, like toluene and carbon monoxide. He was exposed to many toxins during the three-day investigation, according to information posted on a website Coons founded -- FirefightersWithParkinsons.com.

Good Job guys!......And they say 016 is a retirement district?
5/06/2009 10:37:00 AM
It is the robbery happened in Harwood Heights.
Kudos to all involved.016th Dist. basher....not all of them were born and bred in 016!.most had stellar careers in other Dist/units, know how to be the Police and do so for protection of you and yours!.If Tact team is not avail. because of piss bum arrests, it's been dictated to them to get them out of Public!..Any one of 016th Dist Police would love to have been in on this. Granted, there are some less than professionals, just as in other Districts but all in all, geographic nightmare and pissy bosses make for what seems like a Fked-up Dist...It's not, ya gotta shake the bushes, but it's all there .safe houses for gangs are prevelant, just look for it and you'll find it..not in your face like ghetto crime.,but it's all there just the same.Be Safe and God Bless

To da wife......did ya ever have a gun stuck in YOUR face?! Hvae you ever thoght just because he never shot anyone and all the monies was insured, that maybe....just maybe he would have shot you!! Well no! No why? because you have never had a gun put in your face!! 'Cause if you did....well. I think you would be the first one in line to have right to carry concealed!!! Its still a scary feeling that one of these gas station/convenient store employees will get shot, even though they complied with the robber.
Great job to ALL law enforcement that day and every day. You guys keep insanity in check!!
Lay off the FBI agent that was involved! He did a great job. He was heavly armed and had good reasons for not firing. The shooting took about 5 seconds, and he made the right call not firing his weapon. He was not in a good position to fire and made an excellent tactical decision. If you were not there and not involved don't talk about what you know nothing about.
The Chicago Police and FBI planted a gun on the man, after they had filled the man's body with bullet holes, to cover up their mistaken idenity. But even if the man was a robber, he never hurt anybody that he was robbing, and the money is insured. So all bank and gas station's robbers, please beware, you might as well kill as many Pigs, and innocent people as you can.

1. I understood that the quote was from a comment taken from a Times article.
2. I understood that the comment was quoted and posted here, and commented on, with said comment calling for an investigation into the quoted comment's subject matter.
3. I surmised that an attempt at seriously investigating the quoted, and commented on, comment might entail an uncomfortable involvement of the, so far, anonymous owners of this publicly accessible blog, and that the moderating authority exercised by said owners might open the door to their being compelled to identify themselves during said serious investigation.
4. I, thus, submitted a comment commenting on the possibility of the original suggestion to investigate the originally quoted comment might be intended as a means to attempt to identify the, so far, anonymous owners of this blog.
5. I further commented on the quality of said possible attempt to utilize the originally quoted comment, and the comment suggesting a serious investigation of said originally quoted comment, as a means to identify the owners of this blog.
6. Further comments on the original comment, and the comment commenting on the original comment, said comment commenting on the originally quoted comment being one that suggested that a serious investigation of the subject matter of the original comment be initiated, were read and understood by me, and, of course, duly noted.
7. In reading your posted comment, commenting on my posted comment, commenting on the posted comment suggesting an investigation be initiated into the subject matter of a comment quoted by the suggesting commenter, I found your suggestions difficult to understand.
Might you find it in your heart to further elaborate on your suggestions?
No need to bash the FBI guys as some of you have been doing. Coming from someone who was THERE- the Fed agent was armed with a rifle-- and was behind the Det. that shot the offender. He was behind him because the shape of the station was triangular, and he was positioned so that he could cover the back door AND still provide help for D.C. in front if needed. Did he shoot (the Fed)? No-- for the simple reason he didn't need to. It was perfectly executed in every way by the two on scene. I felt extreme pride to be even a small part of that. Great job guys and gals!
I'm not a policeman, but why did it take 30 armed robberies to find/kill the bad guy?

Because it isn't easy asshole. Think you can do better? Strap it on bitch. Till then? STFU.

CPD does not run...but we stand and fight!!!! The Feds....ummm...well....ummmm...I got nothing. They think they are better than us....always look down on us..including J-Fed, but when you put the cards on the table, our courage is unsurpassed. Proud of you D.C. you took care of business that had to be done. Feds...you get nothing from me. Condesending BASTARDS and BITCHES!
5/06/2009 08:40:00 PM
Sir, where do you get this idea that "Feds run away while CPD are brave....". Based on what? The Airhart incident? Not all Feds are the same and not all CPD is the same.

Maybe you have some fancy crystal ball that we are not aware of? If your question is serious, I suggest you turn off the TV, that TV-police stuff isn't real!
These coppers did a great job of ending the threat.
Nice job, DC! CB must've trained you well...
Glad you're OK.

Good Question:
That's the interesting part...
You see since WE/Police are so corrupt and dangerous to people civil rights and Jody was brought in to hangg us, the proactivity has stopped for fear of being hung in the media or fired or stripped or whatever ...
THUS ......
This leaves dude on the street and he does not get caught with dope nor is he put away by our "justice system" in Cook County.
So...
If he lives long enough running the hood where he frequents/lives etc. his so-called business will THRIVE which in this case is Armed Robbery...
and crime stats in Chicago go up!
End of Lesson......

A male hispanic in a surgical mask a hooded sweatshirt and gloves armed with a semiautomatic handgun fleeing on foot aand robbing gas stations and dollar stores all over the northside of the city and suburbs- thats all we had now you tell me who the bad guy is now that you have as much info as us
"5/07/2009 10:24:00 AM"
"the wife" was posting the comment to warn us-not complaining.
THEN WE NEED TO RID THE DOGASSES. I KNOW ITS ONLY PRPOERTY CRIMES BUT WOULD YOU LIKE IT HAPPENING TO YOU. NO. IM NOT SLAMMIN THE ENTIRE 022ND DIST AS MOST DO A DECENT JOB BUT WHEN YOU START TO DEVELOP A PATTERN OF CRIMES (BURGLARIES) TRY TO GO AN EXTRA STEP AND YOU'LL CATCH THEM.
Thank you!!!
I live in 16, :)

Your right. The offender was not holding a baby outside the cabin door so why shoot him? Remember Ruby Ridge....
