Scumbag Arrested - Gun Recovered

  • A 22-year-old South Side man was charged in connection with the theft of a 9 mm Baretta belonging to a Chicago police officer as he lay critically injured following a traffic crash Wednesday at 98th and Halsted Streets, authorities said tonight.

Rasaan Shannon, of the 9800 block of South Morgan Street, was charged with strong arm robbery, disarming a peace officer and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, police said, adding that the injured officer's gun was recovered.

Gee, a felon. Anyone want to post his rap sheet? We're betting it's a beauty. And this worthless piece of shit went through an injured officer to steal. We're just irritated beyond words.

The officer is still in very bad shape. We'll update as possible.

SCC. Thank you for the information. Also looking for an update on his condition. Didn't heaar anything on the news about it.
Also, regarding the 15 year old who was shot and burned...no mention by the press of gang affiliation.
Thanks for keeping us informed on what's going on in Chicago. Sure can't depend on the papers or TV stations.

F-ing savage! Just thinking of how much MORE damage this scumbag may have caused by blatantly disregarding a human life and pushing/shoving/even moving the unconscious officer slightly to get a hold of the gun...makes my blood boil. God has a special place in hell for people like this savage.

Well if I was said shithead and I heard the Superintendent of the third largest police force say, ""Whoever would prey on a wounded officer, incapacitated, and take his weapon and then roll him around with a spinal injury to try to steal his wallet, is reprehensible to me,'' Weis said. "I mean, what type of individual would do that? It's beyond imagination."

I'd turn myself in too, because I'd be soooooo afraid of the big bad JFed!

What a crock a shit JFED is. If he were the real police he would have borrowed a line from Wyatt Earp in the movie Tombstomb.... " I coming for you and I'm bring hell with me."

When they jousted the unresponsive, injured police officer,,,how much damage to his person did they do ?

I hate to think about it, and hope and pray and have good thoughts for the officer involved and his family.

Regardless of all existing applicable laws, how about this Springfield ?:

When a Police Officer, (add on here,,)is involved in a traffic accident, and a person disarms him with the intent to steal his firearm, shield, or personal effects, it shall be considered...

all Police Officers reading this finish this sentence...

and then add this...

When the person violated section, blah blah blah, is a convicted felon.

They should get the death penalty.

Now, I know all you lawyers and state reps who read this blog could re-word this and make this a law pretty damn quick.

I'm calling 7 state reps next week, who else will do the same ?

He was possibly linked by video from a gas station cam now lets hope he is linked by fingerprints inside the Officers vehicle .If you watched the tape he never returned to the vehicle shown at the gas station so he could have very well ran his Dumb Ass home thinking he has done something Big with Bragging rights But, the Boys in the Hood were probally just as mad as the Police because most know the Police was about to Bring the Pain on any and everything crossing the street the wrong way either way his ass was about to pay.

Actually, I'm happy to report that NBC5 had the story on their 4:30 PM broadcast on Thursday and actually put up the kids MySpace photo. You know, the one with him flashing gang signs, (no doubt culled from SCC's 05 May 09 post). They referred to it as from his FaceBook page.

I was shocked to see it front and center on my tv screen but as they showed the photo, they said his family denies he was in a gang. As I watched, it was almost as if they were calling the family liars by presenting evidence to the contrary!

Later broadcasts on NBC5 carried the same story but eliminated the showing of the gang photo, undoubtedly due to public pressure.

Don't get too excited about this scumbag receiving the justice he deserves in our broken legal system. A few years ago, 2 officers were involved in an accident on the southside en route to a call. After the collision, the male officer driving was unconscious and the female passenger officer was injured and semi conscious. A group of "citizens" descended on the police car and the male officer's weapon was stolen. The female PO was accosted by a female passerby who was trying to remove her weapon. The PO was removed from the car and placed on the steps of a nearby building. The female passerby continued to try to remove the PO's weapon. The PO, though injured, was able to prevent the passerby from taking her weapon.
When help arrived, the female PO pointed out the passerby who tried to take her weapon and she was arrested and charged with various offenses.
After 10 months in jail, the female passerby was found NG by one of our brilliant judges. She immediately retained counsel and sued the City and the female officer.
After a trial in federal court before a judge who is notorious for his animus against law enforcement, the jury awarded the female passerby over $7 million for violation of her "civil rights". The 7th Circuit reduced the amount awarded to $1.9 million.
So, unless this clown is found guilty, he will fill a reverse conviction suit against the City.
Law enforcement and law enforcement officers are the target of lawyers and their bottom feeding clients looking to win the legal lotto. The federal judges in this District, by and large, who are Clinton or Carter appointees, presume the police officer is guilty.
The system is broken.

Please remember, even in though the piece of garbage that took D.C.'s service firearm is far from the only felon roving the city streets, intimidating citizens and putting fear in people's hearts and making them indifferent to the suffering of others, one African-American women (late 30's ?) witnessed all and stuck around at 98th & Halsted and related everything she observed. She couldn't physically stop them from taking D.C.'s weapon, but she did the next best thing. She stood up and did the right thing, even though she could have just walked away and become lost in the crowd. She deserves an award. I wish I knew her name, but I thank her with all my heart regardless. And I pray for D.C.'s recovery.

No offense to the Officer and God help him please....

But

Dude lacks not only the mental capacity to really think straight at most times but his morals are not generally those of a patron saint.

Dude is an opportunist and like most dogs in the war zones like those in Iraq.....the DOGS of the ghetto look to inherit the fruits that fall from the trees in their path.

Like Floyd Durr the predator of the Ryan Harris murder/rape caper in Englewood, this piece of shit of feeble mind and soul came across an oppurtunity to be a REAL human being and in GODS eyes he FAILED like many before him and sadly many after him will!!!

No care, no remorse, no sanctity of life, no guilt, no sense of preservation exists, no moarls, no humanity! This is why they are animals of the ghetto and we see it that way!

Bless the Officer and his family!

---------------------------------

It's to the point with Weis during his media interviews, we're changing the channel of the television and radio. His department notices sit unread in roll call rooms across the city. None of us will listen because no one in the media will hammer this dummy.

The word, "reprehensible", belongs where it came from: Weis's colon. "Reprensible?". What a goof. More proof Weis is a dummy and doesn't have one clue in running this department. Jody, if you wanted to make an impact, saying something like, "The dog involved in taking advantage of this critically injured officer better surrender himself and the gun. We will hunt you down." That's the mild version.

Word is the CCSAO is considering dropping all charges against the offender, 22-year-old man, Rasaan Shannon, who allegedly disarmed and robbed a police officer while he was fighting for his life at 98th and Halsted recently.

Anita Alvarez and her deputies feel the case is weak and they much rather prosecute cases in which the Chicago Police Officers are the accused rather than cases where members of the CPD are victims.

Guess the CCSAO feels these days that will get more votes and appease Richie and JPUD? The justice system in Crook County is not about doing the right thing anymore its all a big polictical game to sway the media and brainwash as many voters as possible.

I know I'm not the first person suggesting this but the coppers in that area need to burn that area up. Let the savages know that they will be f*cked with for every little thing because of this POS's actions. With our fine justice system, you know he'll be out in a year or so. When he gets out, the animals should remember that it was HIS fault their car was impounded for sound. HIS fault they went to jail for something normally overlooked. HIS fault we signed complaints on their baby momma's behalf and sent them to county. He'll get his eventually. God bless this officer and his family.

As much as we dog each other on here and give out so much personal information, it is a wonder we can keep anyone in the city locked up at all. Thats why they keep suing us. Don't you think the law firms and the media PAY people to read and document this shit. Right after the information was posted regarding Dep. Chief DA and him missing court did the city get a Freed of Information Act request trying to get all of court history. Real smart. Just keep it up!

O.T.--Scc I just wanted to inform the men and women in blue of a new tool used by IPRA that I had the misfortune of being one of the first to receive apparently.
I received a Non-disciplinary Intervention Report today from my Sgt. Now, I realize other coppers may have gotten this bullshit already, but it was a first for me and all the coppers I work with.
In essence it was a verbal beef from some gang banging animal that rather than hit me with a CR, IPRA created this instead. By no means am I complaining about gettin this Report as opposed to the CR, but I still found it suspicious.
I contacted the FOP and was told to not sign the allegation if I didn't feel comfortable doing so. Furthermore, FOP had not heard of any other of these so called "reports" and thought negotiation was still ongoing with IPRA to commence with these reports. I in turn declined to sign said report.
I just wanted to now if any other coppers were served with this bullshit yet or if anyone had any further info?? Thanks

it's not new and IPRA didn't invent it, it's been around for a few years, it's used for verbal abuse beefs in lieu of a C.L. keep racking them up and it would become a C.L. for all further complaints... All it states is that you had a counselling session with your Sgt. and watched the training video on demeanor etc. etc.

one African-American women (late 30's ?) witnessed all and stuck around at 98th & Halsted and related everything she observed.

A REAL CITIZEN GOD BLESS HER!

Well for her sake do NOT mention the name online and put her safety at risk. Shouldn't have even mentioned her existence. We complain we get no support from people in the hood and when they do we front them off on the internet. Not a smart idea.

Keep witnesses anonymous and maybe more will help us.

That is not a new tool by IPRA. They changed the verbal beef thing when they required the affidavit for CR's. For verbal beefs, the shitheads don't have to sign a affidavit, which means they can still lie about the verbal beef and have no consequences if they are lying because they are not signing something swearing that the incident occured. Isn't this department great.

First, and foremost.... All our best to the injured PO. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Next, this is "Policework 101."
When we would 'lose' a radio in the projects and it would be grabbed by a local urchin, or a squad car was broken into and property taken in the jets etc., we would merely come down hard and enforce every trivial law at our disposal, including towing their cars for license and insurance violations etc., and we'll post coppers at every project building in the area and only allow residents or their 'approved' family members access. And each time we do so, we tell them that we will continue until...that radio is returned, gun recovered etc.
The gang bangers that want to continue to pitch dope in the building know a 24hr. po-lice presence seriously hurts their dope slinging and that mutt that had his car impounded because he had a suspended license and no insurance also had a large dent placed in his otherwise baron largess.
Then THEY put the heat on the offender (everyone there knows who did it) to 'give it up' so they can get back to business as usual.
"THAT's WHY" dude turned himself in and the weapon recovered. (Pressure from within)
That's 'old school' and po-licing 101, but don't expect J-Fed to initiate, authorize or approve of such actions.
Thank God there still are some real coppers out there that know how it's done, and coppers that still pitch-in then become part of the 'team.'
God Bless all of you. Stay safe out there my brothers and sisters.

Ol' vet (retired)

The hero in this incident is the woman who WAITED to talk to the police and give important info. I'm sure DC and DC's family will be told who she is and they will convey the thanks of the entire CPD. I hope the city at least offers her an award. and a reward wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Just a little perspective. Lets all remember that 98th and Halsted is in the heart of the so called "miidle class black community of Chicago." Bricks and mortar to not make up a community. People do. Ghetto everywhere.

Witnesses are never left anonymous.

Ultimately their names are disclosed to the defendant in every single criminal case. The whole point of being a witness is having the courage to stand up and publicly point out a defendant at trial.

It's the lack of courage in most people in black neighborhoods that the gangbanger thugs depend on.

It's this witnesses courage we should be applauding. That's what these neighborhoods need more of.

I can take a guess as to how the officer sustained such devasting injuries while driving a Tahoe. Are the right questions being asked? To the officer's family make sure you have the family attorney check into how prepared are these trucks for police work,do the trucks have a heavy suspension system(double wishbone for one example,(re-enforced/or heavy duty shock absorbers, coupled with heavy duty springs for two),that can take the-day-to-day punishment(being driven nearly 24hrs a day 7 days a week) by patrol officers. Is maintanance constantly updated, are they equiped with a true all around anti-lock braking system that can prevent or greatly reduce the vehicle from losing control from sudden turns due to the high center of gravity,or did some politically connected contracter shortchanged the officer's of C.P.D. by charging a heavy price for a not-so-heavy vehicle.Last but not the least, are they four wheel drive equipped.I do not profess to being a vehicle expert however, these are questions that need to be asked/answered.

Thanks, but I have been on the street a long time and I did not front her off. There's more than one thirty-something African-American woman in that neighborhood. That is all I said.

Besides, the news crews had cameras and microphones in her face and they plastered her face and name on the news immediately after the occurrence, but at least they stopped after the first evening.

Besides, you ever work in the hood? There are no secrets my friend. Info travels through the hood faster than you read and judged my words. And it has been that way for a long time, well before cell phones.

the other situation at 43/princeton involved two female officers not a male and female. also, a male removed the driver's gun while the female held the other officer back. this his how police rumors go.....completely twisting the story

For the last time the offender didn't turn himself in the news was incorrect. These officers chased this clown around for 24hrs until they located the gun, then the car, then talk to the offender for hours and met the offender at 55 Wentworth. The offender didn't walk into a police station. Great job 6712 Team to stay on this for as long as you did.

I no longer live in Chicago but will continue to support the PD & any other officals who put their lives on the line day after day for strangers. Please continue to pray for this officer & his family. This is a real living nightmare.
I love you all & my Prayers are with you.
