Still Insignificant
Northside pointed out that we passed 6,000,000 visits this past week.
That's "million" with an "M."
Six million times, people thought that this site was worth at least a few moments of their time. Cops mostly, retirees from out of state, bosses downtown (yes, we still see your IP addresses popping up), civilians and reporters. Fans in Europe, Australia, Asia. The vacationing coppers in Belize, Mexico, South America, wherever there is an internet connection. Even the odd visit from Iraq and Afghanistan where our brothers in blue find time to stop by.
And along with the 6,000,000 milestone, we passed 13,000,000 page views.
We are truly thankful for all your visits. And we truly hope to continue serving up helpings of sarcasm, silliness, seriousness and the pointed commentary you expect. Again, thanks.

The first to congratulate you ...many many more millions to go
No thank you SCC. I don't have time (nor want to) check and return my own personal emails. Let alone take personal time to brilliantly write several daily posts for strangers to read and comment on.
You alone are responsible for uniting officers to the degree that we are today. God bless.
Not that impressive SCC as I have been on this site at least 1,000,000 times myself!!! Just kidding keep up the great work... we all appreciate it!!
The thing is, I have rarely ran into a cop who doesnt read this blog... It is kind of like the fat girl/scooter thing... fun to do, but dont let your friends see ya doing it! Most coppers I talk to claim they dont read the blog, but after about 2 minutes of conversation, they could all be brought up on plagiarism charges! They all spew blog topics almost in the same order as they are posted! I gave up denial a long time ago... Hell, I even admit to posting here! Despite some BS and bickering that goes on, this blog has been a god send! No WAY the FOP rally has such success without this blog... No WAY our membership is kept up on a daily basis with the goings on within the department without this blog! No WAY we get a full understanding of the leadership (or lack thereof) without this blog... This blog keeps the brass in check, the media somewhat informed (I know personally they DO read this blog on a daily basis) of our side, and the bosses uneasy... Thank you, SCC, for your insignificance... SCC truly gives us a voice!!!
SCC: Congrats on the 6,000,000. How can I find the number of visits to my blog?
I SALUTE YOU, SIR...
THANK-YOU...
SCC, your "insignificant" blog was my only source of real Chicago news and contact with the CPD while I was in Iraq. Well, that and the porn my bros sent to me.
Thanks for being there. Keep up the good work.
Over the past year or so, I've stopped by the blog for the info and comedy/entertainment that is always here.
I chose to retire on June 15, 2005, as soon as we learned that Daley was going to start reducing healthcare coverage for retirees by 5% on July 1st 2005, and an additional 5% each year after until the city is "out of the insurance business", in 2013.
I made my decision and never looked back. No way was I letting this mayor cheapen what I'd earned in retirement and pension benefits.
Recently, I looked back in your archives to the beginning, May and June 2005 and began reading. I smiled at your occasional prodding of your readers to go ahead and post a comment if they wanted and noticed that many of your posts were receiving zero comments.
Eventually, comments were made and you got on a roll leading to today's format, where people always comment and won't shut-up.
What a ride you've had!
It would have been fun to have seen all this stuff back when I was still working but think I appreciate it more now.
Congrats on all your accolades as you deserve them, and here's to another 6 million visits.
I am currently vacationing in Israel and I still log onto the blog daily!!
Seems like this is the place to weigh in.
California Small Cities Police Officer and Rural Deputy Sheriff-Coroner here. Now retired.
A lot of your postings remind me of glory days and administrative nightmares.
Thank you.
bosses downtown (yes, we still see your IP addresses popping up),

Really? I thought this site was banished from all departmental computers? I guess a mere mortal such as myself shouldn't questions the GODS on top of 35th st. I keep forgetting the unofficial motto of the CPD: "Do As I Say, Not As I Do."
it's also been about 6 million minutes since the "official" CPD blog (THE TRULY INSIGNIFICANT ONE) has had a post.
Consider me a civilian troll if you like, I visit here either after midnight or in the morning then again in the afternoon, the reason, The truth is posted here, I support the police and I want to know what happens in my community (811) so I know what to look out for, for the safety of my 9 y/o daughter, very few other resources for that
Your blog is exceptionally well written and organized. If you aren't in a higher level management position, you should be.
Congratulations on reaching this milestone.
Thanks too for letting this City worker (non-police) know what is going on regarding contractual issues with Shortshanks' administration.
Thank you to all the officers who serve our City and protect the homefront. Your presence in 16 is always appreciated.
Hey, SCC. First, congrats! If nothing else, reading your post helps us keep up with what's going on in the dept. even when we don't have time for the comments. But the comments can be hilarious and/or fascinating.
One question though. You say you see IP addresses popping up from HDQ. The ASAs tell us it is so hard to find out where email comes from. How do you know that IP addresses are from HDQs? Is this just a techie thing that ASAs don't know about or some program that comes from the blog site? What's the deal? Or are you just pulling their chains?
Congratulations! I am a civilian and read your blog everyday. I really like it. I get a lot of the truth of what's happening from you, not the media.
If I want the truth, I check here.
Wow, congrats SCC, for a job well done! I can't believe I have been following your blog for 4 years, and I am one of the original readers/commentors.
Great job SCC. Thanks for letting all us old retired feel like we're still a part of things. Thanks to your parents also for giving you all that common sense.

..............
Actually you can get this site on any dept computer. I wont tell you how but talk to a friend who is very computer literate. Firewalls are easy to by-pass.
Civilian reader/police supporter here. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I think you missed the fact that the comment about IP addresses showing up was made by an anonymous poster, not by SCC.
As sister of a CPD, I feel like I haven't had my daily cup of coffee if I didn't check the site. Keep up the great work, SCC!

Right. When I am at work I can get past websense by clicking different spots on the page.
What can I say, I'm an anarchist.
---not a cop
Has there ever been a documented hit from Antartica? Somebody participating in the IGY find the blog in a google search?
I don't live in Chicago and I'm not cop but I love this blog, especially the comments from Chicago's finest.
Thanks a lot SSC and your fellow officers for giving everyone a glimpse of how a big city really works and the city that President Obama came from.
Like BIG CITY RET"D POLICE I hopped over and re-read your first blogs and noticed how sweet and nice you used to be. What happened you surly bastard??? signed, an asshat
