Time for Another March?

Well, if arbitration hasn't been set and we're still at an impasse, perhaps it's time for another march? Someone has been posting in the comments that 30 June might be an opportune time for a second round? Is FOP taking the lead this time?

It's a Tuesday so we get the maximum impact of downtown exposure.

It's two years without a contract.

If we march a few blocks east after City Hall, we get to see the Taste. Not that we'd offer to spend a dime there, but it'd piss off Shortshanks.

Shortshanks may be out of town that day.

Nice idea about going to The Taste. Going to need the carbs after the protest.

Actually, i think that it's a bad time for another march. I think now the longer we wait to go to arbitration the better. The economy can't possibly be any worse than it is now and hopefully in another 6 months it'll start bouncing back. The city and the arbitrator will have too many excuses as to not give us raises, retro etc b/c of the terrible economy. It's been two years, what's another couple months now.

Ill be there... and start now with an October 8th march... the day before the IOC makes their decision... get some big names committed to it! Get other departments to help out... make it a police awareness march... to make sure people know why we are even around! Why we ALL deserve decent pay... Get some pro police support from the outside... get politicians, higher ups, radio personalities (local and national) MAKE IT HUGE!!! We can even do it at Washington Park site of the possible olympics! You want to piss off Daley, make his olympics a battle cry for us!!! You have money for the games, PAY US YOU PRICK!!! But name the time and place and I will be there again! We deserve it!!!

If we March on the 30th, near the Taste, that would be the most Police coverage that the city has seen at a special event since J-Fed took over.

Can someone talk with FOP to change the date to 26th June 2009? It will be friday, and it will also be the date of "Second Ammendment Freedom Rally" (SAFR) sponsored by Illinois State Rifle Association. Chicago has been denying gun rights to peaceful citizens for too long. The Chicago Machine is influencing entire state that "guns are bad", while 48 other states allow citizens to have concealled carry weapons. Chicago Police support would greately help out. It would show that Daley is not in touch with people of Chicago.

Added beni: If we agree to this and it is highlighted in every paper and news program, Da Mayor will cancel all days off (should be a 3 day protest I think) which will give our members 12 hours overtime, to not be able to attaned, and a lawsuit for a fair labor dispute.....

I wouldn't pick the 30th of June. The taste eats up manpower. I could see the Da Mayor telling J Fraud to cancel days off and put all tact teams on taste duty trying to eat up possible attendee's. Look for schedule changes for TRU, MSF, Gangs, Gun Teams and anybody else they can switch their hours. That would only leave the watches to attend the march. Strength is always in numbers.

Da Mayor wasn't happy last time, he will stop at nothing if we try a repeat.

There should be at least 100 of us marching in front of FOP hall in the early morning rush hours.

Let's not act like the FOP has nothing to do with it not going to arbitration because they're dragging their ass to do it.

I say we wait until after jJanuary to file for arbitration.

Don't start screaming yet.

January is when all the alderscum and their staffs get their annual 6.2% and 5% raises.

If we wait for arbitration until then, the city will have to show that it does not have any money to give to us. (This after having just given the scum their raises!)

Oh, if there are any alderscum reading this blog, I would like to retire soon after the contract is signed and am looking for a partime gig . . . being a alderscum driver for $82k.

definately time to keep up the pressure and picket again,, theTaste is the way to go. Urge all law enforcement officers and their families, etc; to stay away from the Taste this year, as a show of support to their brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement. Numerous nice suburban fests, couty fairs, State Fairs to go to in areas that treat their Police Officers honestly, fairly, and respectfully, for the job they do.
Thank you to ALL VETERANS, for defending our FREEDOM, and may God bless all Soldiers, past, present, and future, and their Families on this Memorial Day.

THIS NEXT MARCH MUST BE BETTER ORGANIZED!!! I use all caps for a reason - - The last march had a good showing BUT it could have been better attended. Plus, there was no where near enough signage!! You need quadruple the signage. Don't have funds for more signage? Then let people make & bring their own - - just give them the "no no" parameters that they need to follow for wording if you have that concern. The FOP walks a fine line in terms of what they can do without souring negotiations so what you need to do is get an INDEPENDENT MARCH ORGANIZER... a volunteer person of course so there is no cost... who has experience doing these kinds of things (I actually do know someone)

You also need to REALLY take this next march seriously... if some lame-o order comes out to the Sgts. or the LTs then it needs to be ignored. If threats are made like "this will happen" or "that will happen" they need to be ignored. If you don't really and truly take a stand then it is pointless.

Do NOT cow-tow to their lame orders and/or threats. No Pain No Gain like the slogan goes.

The next march MUST be BIGGER, BOLDER and LOUDER!!!!!!!!!!!

Riddle me this Batman....

How is it that we can get so many of us out there for St. Jude's, but not for a march for our own contract????? Reason is because we "HAVE" to do St. Jude's and we "NEED" to honor the gold star families.

Well folks, the time has come and the time is now.... We HAVE to stand up and show Shortshanks that the contract is needed NOW and we NEED to do this for ourselves, for our families.

It will be summer for the next march - get every teacher off from school out there. Get every girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, mistress, whatever, whoever out there marching for us and with us. Where are all those southside reverends and their crews? Get them out there marching with us!! They want better policing? Then they too need to help get better contracts! Your kids off from school for the summer? Slap a sign on their backs and get them out there marching too.

If the FOP decides to assemble another round of informational picketing it should not be attached to any other rallies or marches. No matter how any of us may feel about the city gun ban it's a completely different issue then what we are marching for and should be dealt with at a different time. Gun control is a hot button issue and we don't want our message to be lost by joining in with multiple rallies.

I'm in complete agreement, the economy is in the tank and if you look around the country police departments all over are taking pay cuts. With unemployment rate as high as it is we are going to get little sympathy from the general public in attempting to obtain raises. I know we all want the raises that we assume we are going to get but there's no guarantee that we'll get a raise. Let's hold out until the economy shows signs of life and then we can take our chances with arbitration.

I would say that if "Protest II" happens, leave it on the 30th. We'll just have to get more family members to attend to make up any proposed shortages due to details at the Taste. If the Taste is being planned by the same goofs who planned last years FIASCO of the 3rd of July, there probably won't be that many of us detailed there this year anyway. Count me in AGAIN!!!!!!!

We made our point but the Jagoff doesn't care. We don't have the support of the media or the public. I burned eight hours at the last march but I really can't do it again.

About 20 years ago, when fuckhead was a new Mayor, we circulated petitions. That is what he understands. Signatures of registered voters who will sign their name to YOU'RE THROUGH DALEY. Remember, he has known nothing but signatures on petitions his whole life. The Alderfucks too!

Think about it and if there is any interest in it, we can scan the petition and post and print them from SCC.

10,000 coppers generating 50 signatures may cause Shortshanks to take notice. WE CAN RING DOORBELLS BETTER THAN THE 11TH WARD!

Another march that accomplishes nothing. What a waste of time. While Lil Caesar looks out his window and laughs his ass off.

Sit tight. Wait for the economy to pick up. Olympic decision in October. Then go to arbitration. IN THESE HARSH ECONOMIC TIMES, doesn't anyone understand that nobody, I MEAN NOBODY gives a flyin fuck about our contract but us, INCLUDING THE ARBITRATOR.

Unemployment is over 8% people and we're screaming, WHERE'S OUR MONEY! You think arbitration is the cure all? I'm telling you all, what a mistake it will be.....

You NEVER, EVER go to mediation during bad economic times. It's economics 101.

Are there still some belly up pussies that think that going to arbitration is anything but surrender?

Arbitration is inevitable if an impasse is declared.

An impasse is declared when the employer makes it's 'last, best and final' offer.

There is no reason for the employee side of the equation to request arbitration.

None whatsoever.

Yes- some of us listen to progressive radio- and there was a PSA for an upcoming event-sponsored by the local operating engineers union-maybe -since I'm sure the FOP wasn't listening - but maybe a few people could call the number - get tickets and show up- get more people to realise what daley's up to with dicking around the plice and fire unions.

I think it's worth a shot-and we'd reach more than a few people. Are you game Mike Shields?

Maybe we all should march on the FOP hall for bending over backwards for the Department. I see they got their union dues increased, and nothing has been said about raises since they "pulled the offer off the table". I guess when they decide to put it back, 1.1% or (.011 times salary- average of .35 cents per hour) wont look so bad...NOT!
