Blackhawks Making Moves

They're signing big names. They're spending big money. They're making the moves just about everyone said they needed to make this off season to maintain the momentum for the Cup. The old man might be spinning in his grave, but Rocky is repairing the Wirtz legacy in ways Bill could never have done.

We question this latest move though:
  • More evidence of the belief around the NHL that the Blackhawks are on the cusp of winning a Stanley Cup can be found in the signing of John Madden.

The veteran center's agreement to join the Hawks after nine-plus seasons with the New Jersey Devils was all but lost in the hoopla of Marian Hossa signing a 12-year, $62.8 million contract Wednesday.

Madden, who is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and former Selke Trophy winner (awarded to the league's best defensive forward), turned down multiple offers for more money and more years from other teams to sign a one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Hawks. He did it for one reason.

"For how good the hockey team is and I really believe it has a chance to win the Stanley Cup," Madden, 36, said Thursday.
We always thought Madden was a football guy. And get this - he played for New Jersey last year! We had no idea.

In all seriousness though, Rocky Wirtz and Dale Tallon are making Blackhawks hockey fun, exciting and worth watching again. One, maybe two more moves and this team is the odds on favorite to win it all for the first time in almost 50 years.

I wish they signed Madden to a longer deal. I want to order my Madden jersey right now but I'm too cheap to potentially have an obsolete jersey the following year. Anyone want to buy a Samsonov, Lang, or Handzus jersey?

hossa should score 50 goals with kane setting the table. havlat was a good player but injury prone with a bad shoulder. the key will be how hulet plays. and yes..the roar is back!

You forget to mention letting Habby go... Now we hope Huet can do his job and if not we are in trouble! Crawford or the other kid from the IceHogs are not the answer. But still, can't wait for the first puck to drop! Go Hawks

Say, "I can't wait for the first puck drop." That is how Canadian hockey fans say it. (I said Canadian fans, not just Canadiens fans).

PHALSSON was a lousy face off guy with no speed and a flat out pussy. Who cares what he did with the Ducks he was a bust here.

HOSSA is a great pick up and will get 35+goals this season, but will he get the clutch goals like HAVLAT?

HAVLAT had great chemistry with the team and had some huge clutch goals last season (which he was healthy for all season).

I just hope Cheerios doesn't find his way back here.

GO HAWKS!

their was a reason montreal dumped huet-- he is capable but doesn't win the big games--- hossa looked a little slow during the playoffs-- is it laziness or some kind of injury--- madden is a cementhead that they brought in to protect kane and toews--- they SHOULD have signed havlat--- so khabby goes to the oilers and gets a four year deal which is about the same as what they are paying huet--- looks like khabby could be another hasek or belfour---

I can guarentee the Hawks will not win with Hossa. Hossa is the black cat of hockey.

Played with Atlanta = No Championship

Played with Penguins = Reached finals but No Championship

Played with Detroit = Reached finals but No Championship
