Media Bias

  • A teenager was shot and killed by police Thursday night after an alleged home invasion and pursuit.

    Friday, the medical examiner revealed the teen was hit in his lower back and has now classified the case as a homicide.

Newsflash assholes - shootings resulting in death are classified as homicides. Doesn't matter who did the shooting. Any person killed by the actions of another person is a homicide. Your "reporting" makes it seem like something is amiss. It isn't.

Sun Times:
  • Police fatally shot a 16-year-old boy who allegedly pointed a gun at officers chasing him through an alley after a Thursday night home invasion in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

    Rakeem Nance, of 1910 S. Troy, was shot in the 1900 block of South Christiana. Nance was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital.

    An autopsy Friday revealed Nance suffered a gunshot wound to the back.

Eek. The police shot someone in the back. Let's march! Except CPD Use of Force directives explicitly provide for shooting someone in the back, front, side, head, ass, where ever to protect the life of the officer or another:
  • General Order 02-08-03 Deadly Force

    Section III, A - A sworn member is justified in using force likely to cause death or great bodily harm only when he or she reasonably believes that such for is necessary:

    (1) to prevent death or great bodily harm to the sworn member or to another person or;

    (2) to prevent an arrest from being defeated by resistance or escape and the sworn member reasonably believes that the person to be arrested:

    (a) has committed or has attempted to commit a forcible felony which involves the infliction, threatened infliction, or threatened use of physical force likely to cause death or great bodily harm or;

    (b) is attempting to escape by use of a deadly weapon or;

    (c) otherwise indicates that he or she will endanger human life or inflict great bodily harm unless arrested without delay.
Gee, the officer seems to have complied with Section 1, Section 2 subsections (a) (b) and (c). Is that plain enough? Or how about Illinois Law?
  • (720 ILCS 5/7‑5) (from Ch. 38, par. 7‑5)
    Sec. 7‑5. Peace officer's use of force in making arrest. (a) A peace officer, [...] need not retreat or desist from efforts to make a lawful arrest because of resistance or threatened resistance to the arrest. He is justified in the use of any force which he reasonably believes to be necessary to effect the arrest and of any force which he reasonably believes to be necessary to defend himself or another from bodily harm while making the arrest. However, he is justified in using force likely to cause death or great bodily harm only when he reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or such other person, or when he reasonably believes both that:
    (1) Such force is necessary to prevent the arrest from being defeated by resistance or escape; and
    (2) The person to be arrested has committed or attempted a forcible felony which involves the infliction or threatened infliction of great bodily harm or is attempting to escape by use of a deadly weapon, or otherwise indicates that he will endanger human life or inflict great bodily harm unless arrested without delay.
That looks suspiciously like the CPD lifted the Use of Force policy right out of the State Law. Why would they do that? Oh yeah, because it's THE LAW!

But the news would rather put up some drunk and high "witness" and blur out his face so he can make wild unsubstantiated claims of "no gun" and "altar boy" and "future doctor who would have cured cancer" while ignoring the pages long rap sheet and gun. We really wonder some days how it would feel to have an actual Free Press. "Free" as in "not bought and paid for by Shortshanks and the liberal establishment." It'd be a breath of fresh air, no doubt.

Media bias. How about the trib reporting the robbery on Clark was done by a man with a goatee and sunglasses. Hey asshats, how about reporting his race? Chicken of the reverends eh?

Don't trust the media. Don't speak to them period. Not when you do something right, not when they allege wrongdoing. Never speak to them. They are the enemy, starve them, ignore them, pretend they don't exist.

I remember radio traffic the night Walter "batboy" Jacobsen was assaulted while doing his "Bum on the Run II" shtic for FLD. It brightened an otherwise depressing shift.

These folks, with their expensive equipment and "bling", need your protection more than you need their sometimes foolish musings.

There, I feel better now.

Do an arrest search for 011th District with the dates 02JUL09-03JUL09. Read the arrest report for the 12 year old juvie. Nobody is mentioning him and the fact that his grandmother turned him in to police after he told her he gave Nance two guns and took part in the home invasion.

I love it scc, I just love it ! They try to make it seem as if the officer did something wrong. Damn the home invasion and the gun. What they need to focus on in the media is that most of the shooters and robbers out here are teenagers and very young adults. I'm sure his community won't be missing him.

I just loved the interview with the friend of the family. The entire interview was basically unintelligible. Fortunately, I speak ebonics so I could tell what she was talking about. They should offer EC (Ebonics Captioning) for instances like this.

There have been about 8,000 studies done where someone can turn and point a gun at you and you shoot them in the back. The head of the study has video, and re-enactments when he testifies in court. Enough of this back shit already. Don't break into a house with a handgun and no one gets shot.

But SCC wait a second! Did'nt Swiss who is now indicted follow the guidelines? Is he now fcuked because of this? Guess if you do it without feds watching it is the law, but if they see you, under the bus you go! Why are they so spineless, except when it comes to a "easy headline", by doing this to our BROTHERS IN BLUE! Look at COZZI where is the outrage? When do we say as a "family" enough, of destroying our families lives? WHEN??

"Anything but the facts, ma'am. Anything but the facts." The new mantra of the media.

Sensationalism sells. Facts are boring.

It's funny how they admire the journalists of the old days but do nothing to try to equal what they have done. Sellouts. Useless sellouts. We have only a precious few with any talent or guts in this town.

Actually I am pretty sure that the law was changed after the CPD changed their policy sometime around 1985 or so. Both used to allow the use of deadly force against anyone who was attempting to escape after commission of any forcible felony. CPD changed as a result of Tennessee v. Garner, and, at the time wanted the policy to be more restrictive than state law. The change in Illinois law came some time later.

SCC,
GREAT POST. NOT ONLY CAN YOU LET THE PUBLIC READ THAT AND UNDERSTAND THE USE OF FORCE, AND ITS REALLY FOR THE FUCKING YUPPIES AND DEMOS THAT WANT TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF SHIT QUALITY RESIDENTS OF THIS CITY. THEY ACT LIKE THEY KNOW EVERY LAW IN THE BOOK TO PROTECT THOSE FUCKS. BUT, HA-HA THERES STATE LAWS THAT PROTECT POLICE ACTIONS TOO HA-HA AGAIN! SCC DIDNT PRINT THIS FOR THE SHIT HEADS AND FUCK UP CRIMINALS BECAUSE, "THEY KNOW THEY GONNA SHOT UP BY THE POPO WHEN THE BE RUNNING WIT A GUN." ITS FOR THE PROTESTING DOPE, BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE ITS NICE TO HELP OUT THE GUY WHO JUST SHOT UP YOUR BLOCK AND ROBBED YOU AND BURGLARIZED YOUR HOUSE].ITS ALSO A GOOD REMINDER TO PO'S THAT WHEN IT NEEDS TO BE DONE, IT NEEDS TO BE DONE. STATE LAW IS THERE TO PROTECT US WHEN OUR BOSSES DONT WANT TO. THE MEDIA ARE JUST MAKING THE IGNORANT PUBLIC DUMBER, AND THATS HOW THEY LIKE IT.

Last night, there were 20-30 demonstrators outside the 10th District station, parking in designated police spots.

They chanted their racist rant.

They forget the two stolen guns from grannie's house. Rakeem had the .40 cal. semi-auto. That was recovered where he was shot. But why cloud these fools minds with the facts.

There is grannie's .380 cal semi- auto out there somewhere. Just waiting for another furture barain surgeon to point it at the police, or a nine year old, or a store clerk, or rival crack dealer or......

If someone intends to kill you by use of a firearm the best place for you to use deady force is behind them. Failing that their side. If someone intends to kill you by use of a firearm the worst place for you to be is in front of them. Its simple tactics.

Most people's conceptions of firearm fights come from western or war movies. In these opponents face each other on a street or in a field. These depictions, while far from the truth of what actually happened, color how civilians look at police use of deadly force. This is in our culture and I dont see it changing soon. Its best not to get worked up about it.

Glad the good guys went home safe.

Grasping at straws again.

"Sun Times:

Eek. The police shot someone in the back."

Is there something factually incorrect about the reporting or are you perhaps reading something into it? What if the guy was shot in the arm and they reported he was shot in the arm? Any complaints?

Check your own bias at the door.

Amazing to travel in other states and watch the news and see how the media appreciates the police and reports the facts, unlike in Chicago. It's great when the media talks to shitheads in the dark of night who see everything, even the fact the mf was running through gangways and in alleys and still interview the shitheads who have no clue and wouldnt know the truth, "He was a good boy, never carried a gun, I see no gun, the poleece just kilt him." .....Oh, and then what happended.....you are soooo credible

She is a hater and I will never watch ABC7. I tell my family and friends not to watch ABC7. For that matter, we are better off getting news from the internet and radio, as it is not in control of the Socialist/Democratic party yet. But they will try to control those two mediums very soon so the "one" can have total control.
