From an Indiana prison. Two murderers and a rapist:
- Authorities launched a manhunt near the area around the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, Ind. today looking for two convicted murders and a rapist who escaped from the maximum security prison sometime this morning, officials said.
Prison officials discovered that the three men were missing after a routine inmate count taken about 10 a.m. this morning, said John Schrader, a public information officer with the Indiana Department of Corrections. After guards failed to find the offenders in the facility, officers from several law enforcement agencies began a search of the community surrounding the prison, Schrader said.

You never hear about one of these guys getting out of prison after serving their time and becoming a good citizen. You do hear plenty of stories about them escaping. That's all they have to do with their time...plan an escape. 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year, thinking, how am I gonna get out of here?
Remember you taxpayers, Richard Kimball was a fictional character. There are no innocent people in jail. When the "wrongly convicted" are freed, it doesn't mean they are innocent. It means some lawyer who only cares about money found some legal loophole to squeeze their offender out. They don't give a lick they are releasing a dangerous criminal back into society.

Daley house guard captures escaped convict

GRAND BEACH, Mich. -- One of three inmates who escaped from the Indiana State Prison has been caught in a nearby southwestern Michigan town by a security guard for Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
Grand Beach, Mich., Police Chief Dan Schroeder tells The Associated Press that two of the inmates were spotted in the town and one of them was taken into custody. Schroeder says the inmate identified himself as 48-year-old Charles Smith of New Castle, who was convicted of murder.
He said a Grand Beach police officer got a call before 7 a.m. Monday that a private security guard for Daley was holding at gunpoint in a private driveway near the mayor's house in the town about eight miles from the prison.
Channel 9 reports this morning that one of the escapees was taken back into custody by a CPD officer assigned to the mayor's security detail when the guy wandered too close to Daley's summer home.
Will this copper be made the next Indiana State Prison Warden by merit?

You said there are no innocent people in prison.
I don't think the percentage of innocent people in prison is high. Sort of like the percentage of honest alderman.
That being said it is clear that on occasion innocents do get convicted. Now most of those folks do have prior serious criminal records, but not all.
I can think of some poor guy who was convicted of killing his parents on some farm in the far NW burbs. Was sentenced to die. A few years later some Federal probe found out that it was some meth-dealing biker gang. He was released from prison.
Shit happens and mistakes can happen to.
Before speaking or typing in "absolutes" it is best to keep that in mind.
As for Daley's bodyguard nabbing one of these guys I personally would like to put him him in for a new award for valor. Call it the "Grand Beach Medal of Tanning" or sumtin'.

Can my brother apply to work out of this office? I would feel much safer with him patrolling the streets of Grand Beach,MI rather then the village of Austin,Kuwait......I mean Chicago. And from a tactical point of view(former marine), that must be a 10+ man security team to be able to secure a perimeter a quarter mile around the house. Overkill?

I like how the Trib and Suntimes say the guy was captured by a Daley security guard. Dumb asses! He is a Chicago Police Officer. He should be in Chicago protecting the citizens here. Not in Michigan watching this thieving prick and his family when they are sleeping.
It was not reported that he was visiting DaMare in an attempt to get his job back at streets and sans!
Last year some animal rights nutjob tried to burn down the Mayoral summer abode. Burned down some neighbors houses instead.
Said nutjob was pissed off that the Chicago Police killed that harmless cougar who was running around Roscoe Village. You know the cougar that was loose as children were coming home from school. I imagine a small child might look like a happy meal to a cougar.
Of course small children on Chicago streets are a common sight. Cougars...not so common.

These weren't rent-a-cops. They are CPD, on the clock, providing security for a man who hates guns. They are also way out of their jurisdiction. Not sworn Indiana police but CPD. Required to spend the weekend out at the compound with his family. All on the city dime-each of which is making Sgt's pay.
Nice Mr. Mayor. Times are tough right? How about letting your personal army go back to a district and man a beat. At Patrolman's pay. Save a ton of overtime and needless salaries. After all, there are strict gun laws in Chicago. Why do you need an army of coppers to protect you?

Guys, I'm on your side in your battles with the city and the cast of characters who run it. I can tell you that law enforcement here is not anal about jurisdictional crap. For reasons that should be obvious I won't discuss security mechanisms but suffice to say it's not unusual for your people to bring their security details with them and that the mayor's is fairly low-tech compared to, say, what some of the judges have.
I can't imagine why or how your guy would get dumped on at home but he's definitely a hero here and won't get any crap as Michigan common law authorizes arrest for felons and also for crimes committed in anyone's presence.

Mike Smith did a tremendous job in apprehending one of the escaped murderers.But lo and behold he gets called in by his "Boss" Baloonhead Fat Sam Roti who screams at him and accuses him of trying to take his commanders star away from him. Instead of praising him on such a nice job he gets reamed for abandoning his post.Sammy why don't you worry about other things like that tab you owe at Freddys on 31st street. Leave the policing to other people!!!!
