Quinn Hears the Screaming

Realizing he was leading his party down the road to ruin, Governor Quinn retreated from his tax hike proposals...but only until November:
  • Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is putting aside his call for an income tax increase until November.

In an interview Friday with The Associated Press, Quinn said he now wants to pass a state budget with significant spending cuts. Then in November, he would ask lawmakers to choose between balancing the budget by cutting even further or by raising taxes.

Too bad this isn't an election year. But we'll see if the voters have long memories.

Apparently, the High Command is looking for a few good men (and women) who possess those leadership traits that are for the most part lacking in all of the present Deputy Supts. I don't think WEISel has any of them either.

7:34, I'm glad that someone else caught that about the Detroit public schools.

Mish Shedlock posts things like that on his blog from time to time. For what its worth, a California-based Federal bankruptcy judge or magistrate just approved abrogating union contracts and/or pension benefits for a municipality there a few months ago. It was apparently a case of first impression, but it sets a precedent.

The list is growing longer, and it doesn't seem like there is any way for Obama or Bernanke or anyone else to bail out every state and city in this country.

On another note, CIT just hired bankruptcy attorneys. CIT provides the financing for 1 million small and mid-size companies. If financing goes for the small and mid-size businesses in America, this country as we know it is done for.

So true. Remember where he went looking for support? That's right, the Rev-runds. Who came down to Springfield to support him with those stupid signs that said, "Raise taxes"? That's right. The usual suspects. Pathetic.

Yes, we have a "moral obligation" to pay for all of those free loaders so that they can elect him.

Word through the grapevine is that Lt Garrido is very upset with all the negative posts he's recieved on the blog. I'll give the guy credit, he's moved up on the food chain pretty fast in this department. The funny thing about John is how smart he is politically in some aspects and very dumb in others. A couple of years ago, he brought his three little dogs with him to St. Judes. Boy, did that piss a lot of bosses off! here he is standing with all his other fellow Lieutenants and he's got his dogs pissing and shitting all over the place. He's not a bad guy though. Could someone please clarify from an earlier post about him having ties with Ray Suarez, or is that just some typical made up b.s. like usual?

Seems to me equal pain across all departments of state government is the most fair.

Something like a progressive 5-10% reduction in across the board spending calibrated to the rate of increase In department spending over the last 5 years. That way fat inefficent departments have spending reduced by 10% and efficent departments have a 5% reduction. More dillegence should go in to the size of the reductions dept. by dept. This is a starting point.

The state budget is about 86 Billion. Under the above scenario the state should be able to save 6 Billion.

Many departments have obscene salary costs, for example the Department of Human Resources. County by county you have people in those departments making 250-300K per year. That"s insane.

As a citizen, I can see Quinn need not layoff any essential frontline public safety sector employees like Police, Fire, Dept. Of Corrections. All he has to do is eliminate or reduce the obscene cost of overhead labor.

The obscene pension benefits of non first responders, govtt office workers, bus drivers, etc is another factor why every 5 years as more and more state employees retire, the state budget gap is going to grow.

Eventually the shits going to hit the fan becaus taxpayers are getting more and more fed up supporting annual increases for salaries and pensions of overpaid state workers.

Quinn had a opportunity to do some thing. Now he is showing himself to be just another bullshit politico maintaining the status quo.

The only people really bitching about the cuts in spending are those who don't pay taxes.

I saw a single mother on TV crying that she will lose the day care for her 5 kids. Here's a news flash, try not having 5 kids.

I am sick of supporting those who don't want to work and just want to sit back and collect a check from the state.

I heard from a State Trooper buddy of mine, as of the next pay period, all troopers (and State Employees) will be paid minimum wage as part of Quinn's budget.

And to think that we are pissed her on the CPD!

Wrong about the creationist part in my opinion. That is precisely why we are in this mess. The country is moving away from G-D.

Our Declaration of Independence states that we are endowed with unalienable Rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness by our CREATOR. We get these rights from G-D, not the government.

I agree with you about the small government part. Ronald Reagan mentioned something to the effect that the scariest words you can hear are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help"

Let people keep more of their paychecks instead of taxing them to death and using their money to support the dead weight who produce nothing but take much in the way of services. I am all for helping the truly needy, but most of the money taken from us in taxes goes to people who game the system and never intend to become productive citizens. I think they are killing the goose that lays the golden egg, (taxpayers).

The Republicans need to stop trying to court the Hispanic vote by saying they are in favor of legalizing illegals already here, and close the borders. The Republicans alienate their base by doing this, the Hispanics vote Democratic anyway, so its not like they are losing voters from that bloc.

If the Republicans start to act like Republicans, in the Reagan mold, instead of Democratic lite R.I.N.O.S.(Republican in name only), They would start to win elections again.

The fact that he's a loud and proud Republican should have cleared that stuff up already!

Banks is the black Rugai and the swedish restaurant owner alderman will withdraw his request to see the names of all PO's w/CR's because he has recently been shown paperwork by several of his constituents whereby ex's filed 20-30-40 CR's with the department citing brutality etc when these same officers were in fact in the aldermans restaurant or at sponsored events. I have been working at polling places since I was old enough to read a dead man's name on a poll sheet. I was driving senior citizens to the church basement and pulling drunks out of bed dressing them, walking them into the booth and helping their hands pull the levers when I still had a training bra on. But you're right, I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. No one hates these walking mortal sins more than me.
