Curiouser and Curiouser

As someone pointed out, 24 hours after Lisa declines to run, Roland does the same:
  • Sneed has learned U.S. Sen. Roland Burris has decided NOT to seek election to the seat he fought the government to keep.

Sen. Burris is planning to announce his decision Friday by issuing a statement to the press. But he’s reportedly not planning to field any questions from the press.

The decision by Burris was based on his inability to raise campaign funds; campaign disclosures with the Federal Election Commission are expected to be filed next week...and he has reportedly only raised approximately $20,000

But he'll get to chisel the words "United States Senator" on that monstrosity of a grave he already has prepared for his final resting place.

So who has the Machine picked to run then? Or are they conceding this seat back to the Republican side for a little while?

Was it worth it Roland? You were a half-baked Machine politico who did exactly what he was told back in the day. People have been remembered more fondly for less than that. Now you'll be forever tied to a corrupt governor and labeled a liar for your "testimony" and obfuscation before committees. We suppose you're a fully indoctrinated member of the Machine now.

Expect further developments in this political soap opera over the 'no news, nobody'll notice' weekend.

It was obvious, once she announced, that the whole chess game had been laid out already.

No thread for 025's very own Lt. John Garrido who has declared himself the Republican candidate for Cook County Board President?

It's almost as if he's not being taken seriously.

Nah.

Now if only that shithead Danny Davis
would go away or go to jail.
Danny Davis voted against the Amber
Alert bill and had no recollection,
but when told that he was among only a handful of congressmen (Jesse Jr. as well) who voted against it. he said he felt it was in good company.
he is bad news for everyone.

I kind of feel sorry for the guy. They used him. Threw him to wolves because he's not half as filthy as the rest of them. Now he has to sit up in the senate being snubbed when the ones being snubbed and ridiculed by late night TV hosts are Daley, Burke, Joyce, Stroger and that band of felonious alderthieves.

Danny Davis will run for Cook County Board President and be elected due to the demographics. If you think Stroger is bad, wait until you see what this committed socialist, race card playing, to the left of Mao Tse Tung, corrupt politician will do to this county and city.

As I saw explained on a news station he doesnt get a pension unless he would have been elected for a full term.So hes almost broke from all the legal bills he had to pay , maybe he can rent a billboard on top of his monument and make some scratch that way.

Filthy ain't everything. Stupid counts too, when the party wants a red herring.

He sold himself out for the "Yes sir, Senator" spot. Got him a pension (another one) and inscribed in marble, for all eternity.

Who's the dummy?

One more pension, from the people.

Johnny is hoping to be the fly in the ointment until he is offered a "Command" somewhere to drop out. It's the usual extortion.

If you waste your time or money on him, you haven't been paying attention.

I can’t wait for him to add the following carving to his tombstone:
U. S. Senator, Scalawag, and Scoundrel who misrepresented himself to the people of Illinois in order to buy the appointment from a Governor even more corrupt than he, then went on to Washington to serve without distinction until he finally realized that his aspiration of competency and delusions of adequacy were beyond the scope of his diminutive intelligence. [But he would have to read all that here first!]

Under federal law, he is not entitled to a pension for his Senate service since he did not serve a minimum of five years.

Pathetic: First we see 19 ward hack
Sheriff Dart holding a basket full of puppies from a pet joint and now we are told he's so dedicated to his job that he actually slept at Burr Oak Cemetery last night because he was so exhausted after his long day of digging up bodies.

I think I'm gonna puke!

Common Tom, you live like about 5 minutes from there. You could have just gone home like a sane person but then there is no publicity for sleeping in your own bed. What an embarrassment to law enforcement this Daley Crime Family stooge is.

Burris doesn't get a pension as a US Senator unless he serves at least 5 years, so no pension for him. Thank God.

Anybody but Giannoulias, the inarticulate tool with no qualifications who Obama propped up because they play hoops together. His handlers always rush him off the podium because they don't want potential voters to see that deer-in-the-headlights look when he speaks.Maybe I should have gotten some of my rich relatives to contribute big bucks to Obama's campaign.Apparently, that's all it takes to become a puppet politician.

What a joke. Google the name and you will find out.

"But he'll get to chisel the words 'United States Senator' on that monstrosity of a grave he already has prepared for his final resting place." -- SCC

Whoa. If his plot's out there in Burr Oak, he might have a little problem. 700 people through there today, coming out with stories like "we could only find one headstone out of two dozen family members." Whole sections of the place have, well, disappeared. They're closing the joint for a while to let investigators start laying out grids...

Another Tri-States Crematory mess, "getting worse by the hour," as they said on the news tonight.

Burr Oak ownership is legally registered to a "corporation" whose address proved to be some very blank-white, fortress-looking, windowless private home in Phoenix, I think, but they got an actual response back from a man in Dallas.
Something or other about "committed to dignity," some nonsense like that.

Maybe a class outfit like GSSP can come in and straighten everything out.

You don't have a contract, but they do --

I wish people would stop ranting about the "Democrat Machine". It hasn't existed for about 20 years. In the days of Daley I, the Democrats had a slating committee that picked candidates for every office, and every precinct captain worked for those candidates. Any officeholder who didn't endorse the official slate would have someone slated against him, as would anyone who bucked the Machine by actions in office.

That era is dead and gone. The slating committees were abolished many years ago - and even before that, the official endorsement lost any significant value. Politicos don't bother issuing endorsements in most races. There are few precinct captains left.

Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown ran against Daley for Mayor in 2007; in 2008 she was unopposed for re-election as Court Clerk. What kind of "Machine" tolerates open rebellion?

Of course there is still an "Organization"; but not a Machine. The Organization can tolerate dissidence; the grafters are cleverer.

Just a Civilian (who's been following Chicago politics for 40 years)

It is pretty obvious that the senate seat already belongs to Giannoulious. giannoulious parents are billionaire bank owners who financed BO's run for senate. Also, giannoulias parents bank recieved billions in bailout money so BO's office convinced lisa madigan, roland burris, and kennedy not run. kenedy will drop out of race later.
