Questions Questions Questions
Mike Doyle at ChicagoNow.com brings together a number of sketchy reports and combines them into a decent article asking what really happened at the Taste on the 3rd. He cites bloggers, tweeters (Twitter users), mainstream media and eyewitness accounts to put together a narrative that raises a questions and shines light at various shadows in the official reports. He's already located a number of people who claim to have witnessed shots fired.
Hop over, give it a read.

I stayed home on the 3rd, a few of my friends ran out of the hard stuff and headed over to Duggans at around 3, while walking east of there, they ran into a large group of honor students fighting in the street, luckily a taxi showed up and they were able to get out of Dodge. Not the usual place for a gang fight.
I went to the site and read the article and the comments and I'm amazed that some REPORTER (do we still have some in Chicago?) hasn't picked up on the story of the cover-up yet.
Then I read a bit of the archives on the site and found this link to a blog/reportage site that's dedicated to following Daley's every move, 'The Daily Daley'.
It's good. Really good. Might even deserve a link on the face-screen, SCC.

It's interesting too that CLTV reported several times today on the "minor problems" at the taste and the only gun arrest they referred to was of a teen who brought a "handgun in a book bag" into the taste. Are they referring to another incident or are they changing history by turning the sawed off shotgun into a handgun?

With every major media outlet owned by a big corporation that is/wants to be a friend of Richie or Obama or Rahm (or a friend of Richie or Obama or Rahm), there's no incentive to air any minor story that casts Chicago in a bad light.
Bad press = embarassed City government = pissed off Richie and an unemployed editor/producer.
First of all, I would like to say that I am a law-abiding citizen, never arrested, a republican, American then Mexican and educated.
At about 12midnight on Tuesday morning, I was behind a goldish tact car with four officers in it. We were at approx. 1400 W. 18th St. We were going westbound and there was an older man approx. 45 years of age on a bike going eastbound. The police officers without warning swerved into the lane of the man thus making the man swerve almost into the parked vehicles. As we came to a stop sign, I could see the officers laughing through the mirrors. There was nothing obstructing the road and this man was far from a gang member or thug. This man seemed to just be riding his bike. I have seen these same officers in the area before. I called 311 to find out the police district number and upon calling the district- I was instructed and encouraged to request a Sgt. at the scene and encouraged to file a formal complaint. I was not the victim and I did not think that it had to be taken to a formal level. However, I simply want these officers to know that there are law-abiding citizens and it is bothersome to see officers act in such an idiotic fashion. Even when you do not think so- somebody is always watching and it is actions of a few that create such mess for the rest. I hope never to need these officers- especially the driver! I will find it hard to look at this so-called "man" and respect him after this incident. Understand that what you give - is what you get from the Lord.
Thank You and God Bless you all.

SCC,
Another Taste related shooting happened in Joliet - just after the Metra unloaded.

JOLIET -- A teen was shot while a police officer shot at another suspect during a brawl Friday night outside Union Station...
Two CPD were on board the Metra and got to join the party as well...
My favorite was when the hyped up copper is yelling "SHOTS FIRED, SHOTS FIRED" and some stroke says "nope, i'm on the pod over here. . . no shots fired."
To: A concerned, Pro-Police citizen
I hope that others reading your observation are as respectful to you, as you were to us, by recognizing that police officers as a group are not responsible for every other officer's foolish behavior or act. I think that you articulated your concern and clearly made your point. I, for one, said "ouch" because there are no excuses for the laughter following what "may" have been a valid cause for the driver to swerve toward the cyclist. I hope the guys in the car read your post and give it some thought. It isn't easy, but we are always under a magnifying glass being watched and judged. Although you recognize that the majority of cops live by the golden rule, most citizens judge all of us by the foolish actions of a few of us.
Perhaps the reason that there were so few incidents reported in the media is because the IOC might be reading the local papers online.
Daley does not want Shitcago to look poorly before the IOC.
Neighbors wife and daughter were groped, molested walking to the train by a pack of CPS students. They used to think I was full of shit when I told them not to go down there.
I will find it hard to look at this so-called "man" and respect him after this incident. Understand that what you give - is what you get from the Lord.
Thank You and God Bless you all.

With all there is is to do out there, for any one of us to be acting like a fool for no apparent reason disgusts me. You become no better than the savages you're herding.
Don't forget the numerous arm robberies the night of the third, aththe Taste!
i heard that pod watcher trying to quash the shots fired called in by the police at the taste, what a joke
Re: why some reporter hasn't picked up? I pitched traditional media including at the Tribune. They weren't interested. They said it would "impossible to investigate" since CPD is tight-lipped. Are you f****** kidding me? I investigated all day using all my social media contacts and in hours found what I found and a newspaper reporter couldn't manage to do that?
Sites like this one and other under and over the radar niche scuttlebutt and online news sites are really becoming big players in this town's media scene. Totally can't believe the response I got from traditional media yesterday.

I am afraid too many of my fellow officers are complete strokes. I have always tried to police as if the person I was dealing with was my best friends mother UNTIL I found the need to treat them otherwise.
The really nasty cops here in Chicago, the ones with the badge heavy chip on their shoulder, are almost always clout mutts.
Thank you for your support, and I hope I can assure you that the vast majority of the CPD are good and decent officers who take public service seriously.

Pro-Police Citizen--unfortunately like in all professions there are a few chuckle-heads----You are right--these officers will get theirs one day--they will get caught doing some bonehead thing to someone--as a PO. I am embarrassed you had to witness that--I just hope that these officers read this blog and change their actions--thanks for being Pro-Police there are not too many people like that out here
go to youtube and type in goonz 140 and watch their video of the crew thugging through the crowd. Its a sh*&heads view of the taste.

......................................... From police yeah, for some reason we always have a few who behave like that in every district. I don’t understand it and never will. People like that don’t deserve to be the police and make me embarrassed to wear the same uniform.

hahahahaha the pod, what a fucking joke.
tuesday tribune reporting that it was one of the most violent weekends in years with 11 homicides and scores more injured--- of course you can figure out what the common denominator was----

I want to let commenters know I've posted a follow-up to my original story detailing the things that have happened since Monday--including the executive director of the Mayor's Office of Special Events, Megan McDonald, leaving an eyewitness account of her experience at Buckingham Fountain in my Chicagosphere comment thread, my ongoing activities to continue to investigate the story, and my rebuttal to a closed-minded response I got from a local print reporter.
If you're so inclined, you can find the follow-up post here.
""While we're on that subject, I appreciate your attempt to co-opt the comment thread into a defense of rank-and-file police officers. Of course, everyone reading this post and commenting already read my defense of them in the post, itself.
Nice try. Let's put the focus back on the Mayor's Office and police brass, where it belongs.

Absolutely! we have a few assholes on this department. Blame their parent(s). For they are the assholes that raised this hell.
I cancelled my Trib since I get the real news on SCC and similar sites. I am not affiliated with law enforcement but I do work in politics and I see firsthand how the Trib and other papers ignore the real stories and choose instead to hype up something that is not important -- like urging Gov. Quinn to raise peoples taxes on struggling families while newspapers enjoy significant tax exemptions.
All you good cops (and even some of you bad ones) keep up the great work, stay safe, and vote Daley OUT.

First of all, I would like to say that I, too, am a law-abiding citizen, never arrested, a republican, Mexican-American, educated, proud to be a police officer and was the driver of the tact car described by anonymous.
My actions were unintentional and due to having dropped a can of soda in my lap at that very moment. My grin was caused by the immense and total relief I experienced because of narrowly, but ultimately, not causing injury to the bicycle rider. I immediately followed the bicycle rider's path and was able to apologize.
I understand how the untrained eye of a citizen could misinterpret my actions as having been intentional and totally unprofessional, but what concerns me is how many of my bretheren are so quick to jump on the band wagon of criticism before knowing both sides of the story. Things are not always as they seem.
I would have also explained to the witness, had I had the opportunity, but I was unaware that a witness existed. Again, I apologize to all concerned, however, anonymous should also be aware that things are not always as they seem.
I wants to know why dey waz not ain't takin no LINK cards at the Tastes. Bogus whitey!

Get out and vote! Encourage others to do so!

Just half of them is more than enough to dump Daley into the trash bin of history.

Hello Officer,
I do hope that you did get the opportunity to apologize to the bicyclist. I am sure he was freaked at what happened.
However, I happened to stay in the area for the time that I spent communicating with the 12th District, etc. In total, I was in the area for about 15-20 minutes on the exact street it happened-
18th St. I did see a vehicle matching yours head back east 15-20minutes later but not immediately.
As I stated, I do hope that you had the opportunity to apologize. No apologies needed here. Thanks for the response.
Remember, God sees and knows all.
Thank You,
