Welcome to Illinois

Caught playing the political game, so they attack about the coverage:
  • In a nine-page letter sent to the Chicago Tribune today, a group of University of Illinois law professors criticized the newspaper's ongoing series of stories about how political clout has influenced admission decisions at the state's flagship university.

The 16 professors who signed the letter say the Tribune's coverage has been biased and question whether the "Clout Goes to College" series has merited the frequent front-page attention it has received.

[...] "University administrators make easy targets. They are after all academics -- mathematicians, philosophers, business scholars -- who must attempt to navigate the choppy waters of Illinois state politics. They themselves have no clout, and can be attacked in the press with relative impunity."
Hell, we're just glad the Tribune found something to hammer the Machine for. The Sun Times has Hired Truck, the Trib has U of I interwoven with Clout Street. It's something they should have been doing years ago.

You're missing the point, though, that the so-called university scandal is mostly a case of unnamed politicians imposing their will on relatively powerless academics. Name the politicians making these calls and it would be a powerful story. Yattering on about administrators who were forced to give in is just stupid.

WHHAAAAAA WHHHHAAAAAA Poor teachers were bulleyed by Illinois politicians. I thought higher education was to teach our youth morals and ethics! Not in Illinois.

P.S. ETHICS!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, it is law school professors expressing outrage, since their profession is even below a cracked out street ho.

Read the letter it is very humorous in its utter uselessness. The main argument is that every University does it.

But, let me bring up another angle. If it was not for affirmative action, many of the clouted person would have been admitted.

University professors are wooried only about keeping their tenure, usually. These guys are just as dirty as Dick'em Daley.

Can they all just resign? No, they'll keep on whining, because that's all they know to do. They learned it from Bill Ayers, Saul Alinsky, and, lately Barack Hussein.

Seems like Chicago could be facing some new kind of 'Great Fire', soon, doesn't it? Too many voters dissatisfied with too many politicians==BOOM!

Vote out ALL incumbents, and let's try, folks, to re-build Chicago!

Errr, I know this... Trustee Board President Niranjan Shah is NOT without clout.

The Buddha of Wacker had Maggie stay at his digs in India for an entire month once.

What cash cows they were to RMD that he would have his wife stay out there for an entire month.

Plus, he was that/close to not only Blago, but Skippy in D.C.

Threw tons of Indian cash his way during a private dinner in Jan 2007.

Really? You are going to call the University of Illinois some "half assed public university"?

Did you graduate from Harvard, Princeton, or Yale that you can look down on U of I like that? There is plenty of room to criticize the University for caving to political pressure (god only knows that the Chicago Police Department and the Angels at 35th street never do), but to take a crack at the overall quality of the school.....

you are just being a fool.

We are always dragged through the mud even when we didn't do anything wrong - this is just to sell papers. They always want us to be just like the private sector, now its time for them to be the subject of salacious headlines too. They actually did something screwy so I'm glad the news exposed it. Suck it up. We have to.

This is the state that created a cushy position at a University for the wife of a state senator.

When he became POTUS, the university did not even bother to fill the position.

This kind of thing is common in the state university system. Why would anyone be surprised.

How about having "little Abner Mikva" look into the city's "Merit" promotions and which politicians pulled strings to get their minions one, two and even three "Merit" promotions. Now that would be interesting. I can't believe all of the people that are shocked by this bullshit U of I admissions thing. Big deal if "Little Johnny or Susie don't make it in, there is always the dept. of Streets and Sanitation.

After reading the letter to the Tribune from the academics, it reminded me of some of my responses to written essay questions in college, the longer the better.

After a night of partying and no study for the subject material, I would "dump a (meaningless) load" of seemingly eloquent bullshit. More often than not, the instructor would grade me with a "C" (or higher) despite the fact that I was virtually clueless about the subject matter.

Non sequiturs and academic drivel at its finest.

"who must attempt to navigate the choppy waters of Illinois state politics."

The "must" dabble in politics. well all i have to say is those that play with fire, sometimes get burned. Once the admins. from U of I decided to play ball with the politicians, they opened the door to a world of shit. I'm sure all the "help" with admissions were without benefits for them.

I think its time that the administrators come clean, resign their positions and cooperate with authorities to ensure that the responsible parties are brought to justice.

I just wish that these "teachers" would just think about the children. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Welcome to Illinois and bring on the Olympics!!!

I'm a cop.
I'm a lawyer (who by the way, passed the bar exam on his first attempt unlike Shortshanks).

I was NOT accepted to the UNDERGRADUATE program for liberal arts at U of I. Yet, it seems that clout heavy kids and minorities that had lower ACT scores were accepted while I was not.

In the words of Lee Elia, these academics can "kiss my ass right downtown and print it!"

How about ethicists? Any ethicists among them? Fuck them. They look down their noses at people all the time from their ivory tower. Now they are using their credentials to distance themselves from their own lack of values.

you guys are only playing with half the salami--- now go a step further--- not only did these " connected" individuals get carte blanche with the admissions standards, but do you really think they paid their tuition as well--- nope--- general assembly scholarships for all--- must be nice having someone who knows the right someone--- almost like the tact guys in my district where i work--- come in at 1800 hrs and out the door at 0001--- damn, that's only 6 hours-- i thought we were paid for an 8 hour shift--- what's even better is that it's been going on for years--- but the inspector will bust your balls for coming in 2 minutes before check-off--- another reason to do jack diddly squat---- let the tac superstars who work 6 hours a day do all my work--- i love it when they come on my jobs--- we'll take this pinch--- praise the lord it's all yours, because if you didn't want it 19p would have been the code---

Just to clarify she worked for U of C hospital, not a state school. She was not part of the Illinois University system. Yes, what happened with her job was wrong, but that was a private hospital, not a state school. ( yes, I know the private hospital recieves state funds, but that is another story)

you should see the list of who's getting financial aid.
I personally know of a couple politician's kids in state schools (some state run private schools) that are getting financial aid even though mom or dad make more than $100k.

These professors are WORSE! A thousand times worse. We know these slimy politicians are theiving, lying, cheating, amoral bottomfeeders. Hell, a large percentage of our city council are convicted felons and god only knows how many of them can literally read and write. Professors are supposed to have actual moral fiber. I respected professors and teachers. I never believed they taught because they couldn't do, I believed they taught because they were gifted. Here in California educators are scrambling to oust a certain female greek professor from Illinois even before she arrives. After being caught in her lies, insists "Chicago style" to deny, deny, deny. Nobody want's Chicago's garbage anymore.

100k is not that much anymore. Especially if your other kids are in parochial schools and you have a mortgage and car payments.
