Crime was only down for the few minutes that jpud actually made that statement so he wasn't technically lying. The city just waits until the right second of a particular day to say there is a drop in crime just so it's true.

It seems CFD and ERs should get credit no us. Also, I spoken to a lot of people who have been theft victims. Nothing big, to them. A cell phone they accidentally left in the car. A lawn mower, etc. They didn't report it because of the hastle of calling 311 or waiting for the police. So, is crime really down? --Crime is not down. As you say, some people do not bother because they wait forever on 3-1-1. And then sometimes 3-1-1 will tell them they will dispatch a police car which means they wait even longer.
Nobody wants to address these issues. We all know the media have police scanners. I know they hear the RAP/Backlog in the districts. I know they hear dispatch say that jobs are anywhere from 1-4 hours old when they finally get dispatched. On average, a citizen with any kind of life, cannot sit around and wait for hours to make a report. They have important things in life to do. By the time the police respond, they have moved on to do other things. There are NOT enough police out there to handle all the jobs that are tossed our way. Taxpaying citizens are getting jipped out of police service when an actual crime has been committed. But we will respond to a disrespectful child, calling someone out their name, anonymous music disturbances, barking dogs, kids playing ball in the street etc.
The people that want us in their neighborhoods, can't get us, and those who don't want us in their neighborhoods, get more service than they deserve!
Chicago made ABC national news today with Charles Gibson.
They said Chicago and Miami had a bloody weekend holiday weekend with all the murders.
I find it amazing that our local stations turned the other way...while the national programs are broadcasting this bloody city.

I'll start by saying I'm not an A/1 apologist. They have given me hell on some cases, whether I agree with them or not. Overall they do have our backs. The real story from 68th & Winchester is the P.O.'s involved were questionable in their accounts. The W/C and Sgt's do not leave the scene of a shots fired at the police before talking with the det's., and they did leave. I responded to the scene and when I left for my backlog, there was no scene tape. Red or yellow. All the responding units left, because there was no head involved. The A/1 sgt came over the air requesting a sgt respond to the scene and the ball-less sgts we have did not want to come up for the assignment. A third watch Sgt. had to respond. Lastly, that "A-Hole" sgt you are referring to has been to several police shootings since I've been here and he's pretty good. We are getting our ass kicked out here on a daily basis and it's not the fault of the det's, ET's, canine, or any other support unit. WE NEED MORE POLICE. Finally, quit your complaining and one-sided editorials if you don't want people you work with to embarrass our unit/watch in public.

Apparently SOS didn't have enough rats or that bullshit wouldn't have gone on as long as it did now would it have? Go start your felon cheer squad somewhere else.
