Weekend Scandal
It's not Chicago unless there's a scandal exposed over the weekend. This time up, it's the schools:
Nearly a third of Chicago public high school teachers say they were pressured to change grades this past school year.
One in five report they actually raised a grade under such prodding.
And dozens of teachers -- elementary and high school alike -- say they believe someone changed their grades last year without their approval.
So let's see. School get the maximum allowable raise in property taxes for something like 11 of the last 14 years; certain "elite" basketball programs have the smart kids take SAT tests for their stars; Daley touts the schools as improving every year; first day attendance is the key to all sorts of Federal money so the schools have concerts, give-aways, contests, parades, etc.
And still, this bureaucratic monstrosity is still infected with grade changing scandals? We thought all this progress meant we had moved beyond this petty corruption. Unless it's all a facade? That things aren't improving? That once again, Daley lies are being exposed? That's cool, too.

My brother teaches at Hubbard and he said that he has football players in his classes that have never gotten a grade higher than a "D". To top it off, during ACT testing the Athletic Director had him removed from his class and replaced by a more athlete friendly teacher. Guess what? Athletes that never got higher than a "D" in class miraculously scored high enough on the test to qualify to play in college.
I always wondered how it was possible that anyone over the age of 5 or 6 couldn't recite their address, phone number or any other piece of vital information when requested without giving it serious thought (deceptive criminals excluded).
Add in the bastardization of the English language with the simplest pronunciations, and you have the products of the Chicago Public School System. Dare I even provide examples in other subjects? I'll spare you the sickening reality.
Unfortunately, the liberal sheep have been buying the year-to-year increase in testing results as gospel. In reality, the majority of kids who actually show up to school aren't making the strides that Shortshanks says they are (I know, BIG surprise there). They are there to socialize with their friends, gang bang, sell drugs and wreak havoc.
It's not a big secret that first day attendance counts are manipulated to secure the maximum federal funding. It shouldn't come as any big revelation that teachers are changing grades to suit the mayor's whims.
Corruption in this shit hole of a city doesn't discriminate; CPS is just another cog in the corruption wheel. Is it any wonder why coppers and parents with common sense refuse to send their kids to CPS unless they absolutely have to?

Well i'm a sub for the CPS system and believe me they not only change the grades to make the schools to appear better but they select and even remove kids from class when it come down to take their state standards test. So instead of 33 kids taking the test, only the best 18 of a certain grade take it and the rest are in a program to receive assitance with their work and do not take the test. All the numbers are re-arranged to produce the Mayors wishes.
Daley & Huberman using the Merit Promotion System that has been in use in the CPD for a while now. What a great City we live in. If you're a blithering IDIOT, but have clout you can become a rising star in no time at all.

scc, slow down and think--- the cps now holds teachers accountable for the scores that their students achieve--- your classroom scores low means you are a bad teacher and you are let go--- it happened last year where my kids go to school--- so the teachers may be responsible for a little adjustment with the grades to keep their jobs--- just like the cpd, accountability, smoke and mirrors....

This is a common practice among public schools. Principals are a big part of the scam. They put pressure on teachers, always verbal not in writing. They must have been trained by CPD exempts. Such a lack of leadership in the CPS system. Then people wonder why graduates cannot read and lack basic skills of a high school graduate. Now I understand why aldermen are desperate to put family and friends in magnet schools. Cannot blame the teachers, this is beyond them.

I know for a fact it's true, friend of mine who teaches science at a title one school in little village was told by her principle that if she didn't give her little darlings passing grades that she would have to look for a new job.
They've been fixing scores and training kids to take tests for years at the supposedly "good" NW side grade schools for years. They get away with it because the city worker's and DP kid's parents don't give a fuck as long as the numbers are good.
It's all bullshit.

A Chicago public high school teacher suggested that her students use the Internet for research, and it's been very helpful. Her students were able to locate 17 people who will take their exams for them!

Why is anyone surprised! Chicago public schools are horrible for the most part so they have to cheat and give higher grades to show that students are improving. Wow. So many things wrong with this post. Do your home work next time SSC. This happens in nearly ever district in America. The system and dumb policies like No Child Left Behind are the result of this.
Also, if you want to fix the schools, get rid of the teachers union which could careless about the children. It's all about their pension and days off...
CPS has plenty of problems and issues but this is a product of system and national policies.

If entry is actually made, this should be a burglary and not a burglary attempt. If you turn it in as a CDTP and an attempted entry was made via damage to the door but no entry made, your area Case Management office will reclassify it to a burglary attempt (if they are paying attention).

Actually this should be reported as a theft over 300 because an automobile moves and is not a structure. A primary part of the definition of burglary for the U.C.R. program is the trespass to a structure. As I stated a vehicle is not a structure. This is a prime example of reporting vs. charging. If it moves on its own, it's a theft and not a burglary. It is reported as a theft and charged as a burglary.

Again, there is no U.C.R. for attempted murder. Therefore once again, reporting vs. charging. It is reported as an aggravated battery with a handgun and charged if appropriate as attempted murder. Only after someone is killed would it be classified as a murder.

Yes, here it comes...my kid was in honors and A.P....didn't get in. But, at least my kid knows all she got she got on her own. But that sort of bootstrapping doesn't count for much these days, alas.

I hate to say it but Mo Po is the real deal .... Their QB was awesome .. I am a Rice Dad and I have to give them their props ... as far as the grades go ... well lets face I know a lot of guys I went to high school with that got a pass from the teachers with grades ... and it was a Catholic High School ... Mount Carmel is notorious for this ... so say what you want, it happens everywhere ... you know the motto ... Just Win Baby
How about an investigation into how many suburban kids go to the selective enrollment high schools, taking away spots from kids whose parents are forced to reside in the city because they work for the city. I wonder how many millions CPS could get if they went after all of these kids!
. . . And a few weeks ago I was being called a "Moron" for paying out the Wazoo for my 3 kids private grammar school education. This, after getting 1/10th of my anit-Jody email to Sneed published.

My ex girlfriend worked at Peck Elementary on the southside. Last year when she was going to give one of those children that don't participate in standardized testing an F the vice principal interceded in her grading. She was told that students in the program do not receive grades like that and it was strongly implied that the grade needed to be changed. When she asked directly if she being asked to change grades for a student who nearly never turned in homework, and made no effort to even try and learn the vp danced around the subject a bit more but didn't give her a direct answer. I'm proud to say she went on and gave the kid the F and she was/is still working at the school this year. She wasn't tenured and I bet they try and impress this on all of the other new teachers in CPS. Makes you wonder how shitty the system real would be.
COMPLETE FEDERAL TAKEOVER OF THE ENTIRE CITY OF CHICAGO NOW... OH, THAT'S RIGHT, I FORGOT, THEY'RE COMPLETELY CORRUPT AND BIAS TOO....
Why hasn't the city Council passed a ruleing, ordinance, law, that the Mayor is NOT allowed to leave the City during any scandals, major disruptions happening in the city, large city Sponsored fests [the Taste], unresolved City Employee Contracts, etc. Get busy you useless fucks, you work for us, we DON'T work for you.

Just like the Police Department, all about silly numbers. They have grades, Police have event numbers.
One of the seasons of the TV series"The Wire" dealt with this exact subject. The teachers had to teach the test
and scores are all that matters. It is more real than real.
