Extraditing the Key?
Marco Morales, a contractor convicted in a City Hall corruption scandal more than a decade ago, has lost his final appeal against extradition from Mexico and could be sent back to the U.S. by next week, his attorney said today.
Morales pleaded guilty in 1996 to bribery and mail fraud as part of the wide-ranging Operation Silver Shovel probe. In pleading guilty, Morales said he bribed Anthony Pucillo, a former high-ranking Transportation Department official under Mayor Richard Daley.
Morales fled to Mexico in 1997 instead of reporting to prison as his plea agreement specified.
Morales returning to Chicago has been a dream of columnist John Kass for years now. Morales could be the key to unlocking tens, maybe tens of dozens of crooked deals. His pleas of being a simple retired contractor kind of fall flat when his son got a $40 million no-bid contract right after he fled to Mexico. It sounds more like a bought-and-paid-for conspiracy.
Clue for the feds - threaten him with 25-40 years in the pen and coming out a corpse and see how fast he cracks. These 18 month sentences are ridiculous and don't do a thing to instill fear of punishment in these assholes.

Forget about wearing the jacket, Morales is gonna need to wear a vest to make it past Da Mayor's boys to testify. He was safer in Mexico.

Maybe 12 years of a cheap, carefree, living-like-a-king lifestyle while on the lam in Mexico will persuade this puto to do the "right thing" and name the right names.
Oh, who the fuck am I kidding? He'll keep his mouth shut, deflect heat from Daley & family and sate the Feds with appetizers of bottom-feeding co-conspirators. Morales will be applauded and heralded as a reformer, but ultimately convicted of some obscure, minimally-punishable violation and only receive somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-7 years in a Federal Pen because of his "invaluable cooperation" in the investigation. Unlike Bill Cozzi, the federal institution to which he reports will be within minimal driving distance so he can be regularly visited by family and friends.
Release from his stretch in the pen will "coincidentally" mirror that of the time when the finishing touches are being put on the Olympics, when he'll be named "Hispanic Liaison Of Chicago 2016", complete with some asinine six-figure salary.
Mr. John Kass, I IMPLORE you to doggedly pursue this latest revelation. The potential damage you can do by disseminating the facts surrounding and buried in this fiasco could possibly be a turning point in destroying Daley's Olympic dream.

The "G" is just as corrupt as this city.

There is no statute of limitations on official misconduct.
He was safer in Mexico. I'm not so sure abotu that statement; he's safest in federal custody singing like a bird, new life, probably in Georgia or the Pacific Northwest, running he jeopordized being WPP, but I'm sure they would work him a pretty good deal.

In medieval times if a co conspirator somehow escaped trial and punishment by dying, the offending remains would be dug up, put on trial and upon pronouncement of a guilty verdict the remains would be "executed" by hanging as a matter of course and a very vivid inducement for others involved to spill beans they never knew they had... Anyone who holds their tongue out of misplaced loyalty to 42 extra-short is a fool.
If you flee a jurisdiction to avoid criminal prosecution, the staute of limitatations toll on the first day you can be proven to have fled to avoid prosecution.
