Gross Incompetence

  • After a second troubling incident, the Daley administration on Tuesday reassigned the dispatcher responsible for the 911 dispatch delay that left an off-duty police officer to fend for himself while being shot at by a carful of alleged gang members.

The reassignment followed a 911 call last weekend allegedly mishandled by the same dispatcher -- this time about an Illinois State Police officer conducting a foot chase through the Dan Ryan Woods, sources said.

Reading the full story, it seems the dispatcher may have gotten a wave-off from State Police dispatchers, and the basis for the discipline is a misfiling of the ticket as "Info for the Police" rather than a higher priority 1A or "zero" job.

Maybe someone from OEMC can tell us if this is a matter for intensive retraining or a firing offense. Of course, sleeping at the console and leaving the off-duty guy in 010 hanging should trump everything else and this jackass should be an unemployment statistic already. But he's heavy so who knows?

Yeah he must be heavy . I was left alone for 45min with a combative drunk who struck a pedistrian in the 8th Dist. That was my wake up call.

Perhaps you missed the part where the state police said that we weren't needed..even so the ticket was classified information for the police and sent to the Zone.

I like the Daley Administration line, as if his majesty would give a shit about copper's lives. I guess the other take on that would be the Political heavy bosses down there, hence "The Daley Administration." For better or worse sometimes, it looks hard to get fired from this city. Which can make the rest of us look terrible to the general public.

I used to work in COS and retired a few years ago. I'm not politically connected/heavy but I CAN properly prioritize calls for service. How can I get a job at OEMC?

Really, should we all be given take home radios? Not to sound like a Tackle Berry, but if we are soooo shorthanded, shouldn't Daley want us radioed up on the way to and from work?

He's probably over 30, so he wouldn't qualify for either of those jobs.

The story in the suntimes has holes in it. We need to get to the bottom of the allegation. State police were not conducting any chases in the Dan Ryan Woods. What really happned is that a 911 call came in and the caller asked to be transferred to the ISP. ISP took the call which was about a crash on the Bishop Ford expressway (near the Dan Ryan) The caller wanted to make sure ISP knew that an unmarked car was chasing a red impala and the impala had crashed at 103rd street. The call taker got two calls like that and fowarded each to the ISP as he was supposed to do. He then put out an information for the police to the the 4th and 5th district that some isp activity was taking place since one of the callers said the bad guys ran on foot away from the expressway. That guy did screw up the 10-1 call but he did not screw this one up.. there was never any foot chase as the state copper who is riding 99 stayed on the expresway to do paper on the four car crash and get traffic moving he did not chase Pookey and Mookie down the streets. Think about it guys, if the ISP had chased someone over to the Dan Ryan woods 006 and 022 would have been lit up with calls about a high speed chase. Never happenend Someone fed Spielman some shit. A call to the state boys police confirmed it never happened.

How can anyone mention "Gross Incompetence" and The Daley Administration in the same breath? It's silly, just plain silly.

First up, we don't owe you a forum to bash us, so yeah, we have an ego and we don't publish most gratuitous insults. Deal with it.

We didn't name the dispatcher, someone else may have. We moderate between 250 and 500 comments a day. If it slipped through, well, we're human and we'll remove it if asked....but we aren't digging through thousands of comments - find the post, reference it, e-mail us and we delete it. Simple enough.
