24-7 Booting

  • Scofflaws, hide your cars.

Because the City of Chicago, without any advance public warning, is literally, clamping down on motorists once again.

In an effort to catch more cars eligible for the dreaded Denver boot, and convince their owners to cough up the dough to pay off their unpaid parking tickets, a revenue starved City of Chicago has just begun 24 hour a day vehicle immobilization, six days a week.

Of course there's no warning - otherwise, people might hide their cars. We have to wonder how many cars they're likely to grab after the first week of so. We'd like to see the cost analysis on this one - after the word gets out, the money spent keeping these crews on the street is going to outstrip the money generated by finding boot eligible autos.

Don't the revenue guys use special cameras when they are traveling up and down streets. Cameras that read license plates and alert when a boot eligible plate is spotted?

If so it will likely generate plenty of revenue. It only takes a handful of cars a day to pay their salaries.

Plus the benefit of Mayoral cronies auctioning off the unclaimed vehicles.

It's a win win situation. Unless you are the owner of the booted car.

Too many damn cars on the road. If they boot enough of these 100,000 gang members that drive around aimlessly, I can explore some more districts to work in without having to drive forever in traffic. Gangbanger get the fuck off the road.

Oh I doubt that. Have you ever seen a department of Revenue site on Monday morning of boot week? Or any morning of boot week?

The place is jammed with people trying to redeem their cars. 2550 W Addison is full with lines out the doors and down the length of the parking lot. Boot weeks are alternately north side, south side, week to week.

I seriously doubt the boot crews will ever have time for a nap on midnights. There might be more shots fired calls involving boot crews however.

It is not going to cost more after the initial burst. It is a money saver because they can share their vans with expensive cameras and computers between shifts. The night shift in certain neighborhoods sounds like a fun ride since they work without partners now.

wouldnt be surprised if someone puts a boot to someone s DOR ass either. sending unarmed booters and ticket bandits into some areas is a little hazardous. some people are constantly looking out their windows watching their cars.

If the city would go after the gang violence like they do tickets and revenue generating, they may have something.

Here in Logan Square, they travel in caravans - white van, towtruck, squad car. And they've been out every morning for the last week or so, booting and towing.

Why don't they impound every vehicle when the driver is driving on a suspended, revoked, or no license or no insurance. This will bring in millions. It will also get a lot of the illegals off the road who also drive w/out a lic or insurance. Or is city hall too afraid to do this.

Just last night there was a call of a booter getting assaulted in 011. Had to be about 1a.m. You couldn't pay me enough to work alone and unarmed while f*cking with some gangbangers vehicle in the middle of the night.

They'll get SHOT!

You would have to put an on duty uniformed P/O in the van with them to ride SHOTGUN to go through the ghettos safely and effectively 24 hrs a day!

Hey SCC, the header of your blog post states "24/7", but they'll only be booting 6 days a week.

Shouldn't it read "24/6"? Just sayin'...

Here is an idea for some folks! Clean out the clutter in your garages and park your cars in them!

The city then cannot boot the car inside your property! Problem solved for some!

For others head for the borders!

I work in a district where the booters are afraid to go onto certain streets and areas. I swear this is true. My co-workers and I laugh about this because we see the beginning and the end of the Yellow "Mendoza Line" in our district with our naked eye. The booters only boot in certain areas. In other areas, they back off, believe me, out of FEAR

Yes of course. Sorry. I happen to have one. However one can buy a small kit that should be good enough for a few hundred bucks at Home Depot nowadays. Still cheaper than paying them to unboot your car, and plus you get the satisfaction of destroying their property. I mean, you shouldn't be accruing parking tickets anyway but nowadays, who gives a shit. They rape you any way they can so there's no reason to not return the favor when they single you out for "enforcement."

I have recovered boots cut off with small torches carried in the back of pickup trucks. I inventory the boots and make notifications but no one really cares and they never come to get their boots. True. The Dept of Revenue don't even care enough to come get their boot so why the fuck should I care.

Why should we care if they give anyone a warning on being booted?

If they don't send out advance notice on drug arrests does that mean they should not happen?

Hey SCC, be a cop and get off your activist high horse.

Fuck the drivers of the cars that have tickets. You don't want to be booted? Try this-park legally so you don't get a ticket in the first place, or if you get a ticket, pay the motherfucker. Got booted? Got towed? Tough shit.

Are you really this ignorant? Have you no clue as to what we wrote and what was taken from the Expired Meter website? Are you even reading the correct web page?

We really don't give a shit if the City gave warning or not - we just wondered aloud about the cost analysis to see if the return justified the expenditure.

Try to keep up here.

dept. of revenue also came over to 39th and Wood and ticketd our personal cars for rush hour parking. There is nowhere to park, and there is no rush hour at 39th and Wood. The meter maid was ordered by her supervisor to do this. A police hater.
