Mail Petitions ASAP

We're coming up on our deadline for the Aldermanic Reduction petitions. There is no mail delivery Wednesday and we need to have enough time to count up signatures to see if it's worth the time of binding and submitting them for the imminent legal challenge that awaits.

Send completed sheets to:
  • JOHN NORTHEN
    1960 LINCOLN PARK WEST
    CHICAGO, IL 60614
Further information on what needs to be done prior to submission can be found at this link here.

My guess you get about 300 signatures. Remember how we were all going to come together to vote out the judge who released the Hatch girls??!!! That judge won retention by 83%. Sorry SCC, I appreciate the effort but coppers are all talk, and blog posting, but no action.

Regardless of the amount of signatures that are obtained they should be binded and filed. If they are filed without the amount of required signatures a challenge still needs to be filed. The challenge would be successful. THE POINT WOULD BE ABOUT WHO CHALLENGES THE PETITIONS, WHICH COULD BRING MORE MEDIA ATTENTION CONCERNING THE CAUSE.

The reason there are so many doubters of the petition is because we put this together at the last minute and logistically the odds are against us, however, if by chance the petition is not successful we, as a team, still accomplished something important. We got the ball rolling!

What if next time we put the same petition together 6-8 months in advance and we do get double or even triple the number of signatures (because time is on our side). Watch how many people try jumping onto the cause once they know it's going to happen.

No matter what the outcome is my hat (if I wore one) is off to both the blog and Sgt. Northen for their hard work.

Sincerely,
Mike Masters

Thanks for your great effort SCC.

Truth be told, the requird amount of signatures will not be collected. However, if next time another attempt is made at the earliest, possible time allowed, it might just happen.

I think this time was a little too late to get anything substantial accomplished. You would need more time to advertise, prepare, and co-ordinate the effort.

I hope i'm wrong and something substantial is accomplished.

OT--

Got a letter from Bill Cozzi today.

He said to tell everybody that the FOP has been "really great and 100% supportive of me, as far as sending things."

He said you cannot send food, and he likes the following authors:

--John Stanford
--Nelson DeMille
--Lee Childs

Also, he can receive magazines and newspapers, but they have to be sent from the publisher. He really wants to get the Tribune, so I am going to find out how to get it sent to him. If anyone has any contacts at the Trib, please post for me.

Also, for any techie people, is there a way to set up a website where people can post what they send so we are not duplicating subscriptions or whatever? He said you can't send food.

Don't anyone forget, anyone of us could be in his shoes. Please send him letters and cards.

He describes the place as "the front gate to hell."

Off topic:

Twenty years ago, the Berlin Wall fell. For those of us who stayed up for hours, watching the impossible finally occur, it was heart-wrenching. We feared for the lives of those first few who dared to climb atop it and we feared for those who began to take picks and hammers to it.

We cheered and cried in our warm, safe living rooms as it became evident the East german government would not retaliate, would not machine-gun its own people to death, as it had hundreds of times before.

Today, the East Germans can - and do - take their freedom for granted again. But some of us remember the painful, pointless wall and how it destroyed the dreams and the lives and the futures of so many who happened to be imprisoned on the wrong side of it.

We are SO lucky to live in this country, whatever its faults.

everyone can print up just one list, and sign it, and have their voting aged city dwellers sign it, and send it to Sgt. Northern. I don't think the whole sheet has to be full, each signature is what counts, not the number of sheets received, so please send em even if only one or two signatures are on your sheets. Every signature counts, and remember, these are the Vermin who want you to take off unpaid days, while they continue to steal and spend and WASTE YOUR tax-dollars without Accountability of any sort, inttheir utter ARROGANCE

Off the topic alittle: Daley was quoted in the Scumtimes.........."That's why we're going through arbitration on the whole increase [for police officers]. There was 16 percent on the table over five years. They said it wasn't enough. They want 25 or 30 [percent]. That's a lot of money. Taxpayers have to pay it," he said.

The aldermen's expense allowance more than doubled in 2008 to $73,280 each from $33,280. Half of the city's 50 aldermen spent more than $70,000 of last year’s allowance. The municipal code of the City of Chicago defines appropriate uses for the allowance but allows broad discretion by the City Council members. Oversight is minimal. Aldermen are merely told to ensure that their spending is legal.

Aldermen spent $132,788 on automobile leases, $28,186 on downtown parking spots and $11,277 on bottled water. The city last year allocated up to $3.7 million for expenses; aldermen spent $3.1 million.

The proper method is to amend the Stae Statue regerding the composition of Aldermen. I suggest SCC, or its appointed represetatives contact, the Senate and House Minority Leaders (Ragdono and Cross) to have this come about. The law needs to be amended.
