Pension Board Meeting Alert
From the comments:
- Pension Board Rep Mike Shields said he needs support at the next pension board meeting to ensure that the civilian high ranking members trying to steal from our pension fund are indeed forced out.
The next scheduled meeting of the Pension Board is November 24th Tuesday, 0900 hrs. at Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund
221 North LaSalle Street Suite 1626
Chicago, Illinois 60601
Remember, someone let these feds into our pension fund in the first place. Shields needs our help to ensure it not only stops, it stops ever happening again. We don't doubt that there are more than a few civilians who were snuck into the pension fund on the orders of Shortshanks. Police pensions should be for police only - not hacks and feds flown in under the radar.

Forget the work schedules, forget the Tahoes, forget the rifles, forget the performance evaluation system, even forget the contract for the moment - this is the most important issue before ALL of us right now. They are trying to steal from you, your spouse, your kids. These feds make Robert Hansen look like a shoplifter.
THEY MUST BE STOPPED!
I would love to go but I'm working at that hour!

we need some help in this corrupt city.
This has happended in the past. You have to wonder what our elected representatives have been doing all of these years??
We must rally for Mike Shields on this one Troops, whether you are new on the job, or ready to retire, this is a very important issue to your Future security for yourself and your families. Please consider taking some time out to help Mike Shields as he tries very hard to help us all. A line out the door of the Pension Board, with Media coverage would be great. If anyone knows Mancow, give him a shout, please, he loves us CPD, and would probably stop by. Irregardless, this is important, and Mike Shields wouldn't be asking for your help if it wasn't necessary. It's YOUR Future, don't let it be Stolen from you, by the typical Chicago Thieves who don't deserve it, and are NOT at ALL entitled to it.
And while were at it lets do away with Daley's other political plum, "gold braid pensions". Say what you want about the dumb firefighters but they mananged to do away with their "Gold braid pensions" and limit the gold stars to a capt pension tops. The was this idiot Weiz goes through commanders our pension will be broke by 2015.
WHO let them join our pension fund???
I will be there it is our pension! Everyone who is rdo and on 1st or 3rd watch should attend, plus any retirees lets pack em in! Mike thanks for the heads up,and looking forward to "your vision" when you take over the fop presidency and with all new members at the top! Thanks Mike!!
I was at the FOP meeting. Shields invited coppers to show up. Keep up the good work. Heads need to roll on this.
This story made the news. It's good to see Shields knows how to use media outlets to get his point across.

It would be nice to attend the meeting, but the last one I went to they only allowed 44 people in because more would constitute a fire hazard. Indeed there were a lot of retired police officers that attended the last meeting I would hope there would be a larger venue and a show of force so that Daley would get the message. Question > Can they legally use our pension for their own personal agenda or projects?
I love it. Kick them out. Maybe that weasel Gallagher should go too. Another Daley hack!
Sheilds provides more information than any of those CLOWNS at FOP. Way to go Mike. "If I could be like Mike."
Shields writes some good articles in the newsletters. This is the grand slam.
I'm just wondering now, what would be still be going on down there if Steve Robbins won this election?
Why isn't the FOP doing anything?

Regarding POD cameras
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704538404574539910412824756.html
A police spokesman said the system has "aided in thousands of arrests." Video cameras caught 16-year-old Michael Pace, an alleged Chicago gang member, opening fire with a 40-caliber handgun on a city bus in a 2007 incident that claimed the life of 16-year-old honor student Blair Holt and wounded four others. In July, Mr. Pace pleaded guilty to murder on the eve of his trial, and the video was released during a hearing where a judge sentenced him to 100 years in jail.
No where in the article does it list who the police spokesman is.
Shields, you're my hero. I got 25 years on, God Bless You
All of us should pay attention to the pension fund money. Just wait til we get screwed.
Here is a chance for the FOP and the bosses Unions to step up and get a couple of buses so that we can meet at a specific location or a northside and a southside location and be dropped off and picked up. Otherwise, we'll end up paying $20 bucks or more to park. We'd walked in as a show of force and unity and not have half the guys showing up late. You know that this meeting will be continued and nothing will be discussed in front of an audience. Then - schedule a couple of buses for the next meeting and every meeting that follows. 2 buses = 80 to 100 coppers -- they will get the word back to their districts and units. Vote them out if they treat us like shit when we appear. It's our money and our futures that they are playing with. I'm sure you'd get at least 80 coppers a month if we each took a turn. This is about us and our families - we can't sit back and do nothing.
If the Unions sit back and don't back us on this - just by simply supplying a bus, and a location to meet (we'll bring our own coffee for the ride) - then you know the unions have their own motivations and don't want to alienate any group that they can seek a favor or a job from when the union people retire.
As City Hall struggles to pay for basic services, a stealth budget account worth millions has allowed Chicago aldermen to put family members, campaign operatives and those with political baggage on yet another taxpayer-funded payroll.
Operating without scrutiny, one alderman hired the mother of a former top mayoral aide later convicted of rigging city hiring. Another hired a city worker ousted for sexual harassment allegations. Several others hired relatives.
Get the picture. If you like this and all the other bullshit from Richie BaBa and his 50 thieves keep voting for them.
SILLY SILLY SILLY
Here's a chance for Channel 2 to up it's ratings again after the Kurtis/Jabobson telecast......
I agree. The BIG QUESTIOM IS: how did they get in our pension fund, who wrote up the papers for the OK, who's signatures are on the papers??????
At the FOP meeting, it was mentioned that they are not in the fund now and are participating in another pension fund, but not enough information was given.
When were they knocked out of the fund and we MUST make sure that they are truly not in our fund and confirm where did they put their money?????

John J. Gallagher, Jr.
Executive Director
jgallagher@chipabf.org
Gallagher is also the one who decided the Pension Fund should pay for law school for his secretary. The elected reps tried to stop it but failed.
I'm a civilian working for the City too..and I'm disgruntled that we have to take 24 unpaid furloughs while you don't & you get paid over-time and holiday pay while we dont. But....I am 100% in aggreement & support that ONLY POLICE should get your pension. That is hands down YOUR RIGHT and NO ONE ELSES!!! Good luck!
Rest assured that City employees who are hurting for $$ that you're still getting paid...would NEVER stoop so low to aggree that ANYONE should benefit from YOUR pension system! Just syaing...even us Haters..show love!

I'll take the El, for free and get off at Clark and Lake.
Maybe this should be followed by a Vote of NO CONFIDENCE on Jody by FOP, or a Vote of NO CONFIDENCE on FOP by the members.
Suppose Jody did resign. Shorty would probably put MASTERS in his place and send Jody to oversee the Airport Expansion or something at the same city salary. Same with Donahoe.
We will be continually screwed and shit on until the day we dump that Evil Little Man, his city council of thieves and put most, if not all of them in jail.
"I want a bus", "I'm working", "The room will only hold 44 people", "The unions better do something"...
Any of you want some crackers with your whine?
It's our pension, not the FOP's, the city's or the PBPA's. Burn eight hours, take the L or pay to park if you care at all. If the room is full, somehow Shields will let them know how many showed up. If you're working, burn 8 precious hours.
If you don't attend, STFU!
1. You have to have 10 years to be vested.
2. The city has already back off on this.
3. All gold braid exempts should be pensioned at their highest civil service rank not the exempt rank. And that is where OUR REAL FIGHT IS.
TRP
Keep it up Shields. Good job.
WHO let them join our pension fund???
WTF have you been?
And We wonder why we getting robbed!!!
reps from fop , lt and captains association shuld attend and support shields . that's why shields will be elected everytime
Captains are now considered, "exempt rank". A captain can be promoted to commander for his last year and then he will get the gold braid pension. He does not have to spend four years as a commander or above. The pension board has already granted some captains higher pensions after only a short time as a commander.
Shields is going to win the next FOP election by a landslide. Mike just make sure that you make enough meetings so that you can meet the requirements to be on the ballot.
I've been on pension for almost 10 years after working hard for 32 years and I don't want this fuckin' Weasel and his FBI asshole friend dipping into my pension funds . I will be sure to show up for this meeting and voice my opinion .

Good proposal. They owe it to us to get a bus so we can provide a good showing at these types of meetings. What else are they doing with my $40 bucks a month dues for the union? I want my money back.
They can afford the busses if its true that certain civilian empolyees are having their law school paid for by the FOP with our union dues!

Hey, dickhead. Are you aware that the FOP has attended every meeting for at least the past 5 years? You ever been to a meeting? Bet not or you would know that you can only be there as an observer. You cannot participate. Maybe YOU need to push your fat ass away from the computer and do something for yourself, but that ain't gonna happen because you already made up your $20 parking excuse. I guess you'll just have to settle for what you deserve.
Man, you guys don't have a clue what you're talking about. Vote who out? The problems are appointed to the board not elected.
I heard today Greg Bella plans to run for FOP President. What a joke. Greg enjoy the retiree breakfasts, because that's where you are going, and not as FOP President. Your whole crew is gone. HE GONE/CREW GONE. MIKE SHEILDS...MIKE SHEILDS...MIKE SHEILDS. Take it to the bank.
And people wonder what's wrong with our city? People say the pension system is broken and must be fixed. Daley himself wants the system changed, but then he tells he his corrupt pension board members to vote in "his guys." Why doesn't the media ask these questions to Daley? Why do we have to work the streets for 20 years to just get the minimum and these fat cats can waltz in after just a few years?
The retiree's need to run someone against that Daley pal, Pension Rep. Hauser. This guy is dangerous. The Lt's also need to get rid of Maphoney, but the Lt's haven't been thinking of anyone but themselves lately and apparently don't care about the pension either.
Jesus....relax people! Weis and company are not getting into our pension. If they don't contribute to a pension fund they have to pay social security. IF they pay social security the city has to match it. No way the city is doing that.
Unless they get a minimum of ten years service, they only get a refund of the money they contributed plus 1 ½ % simple interest.

I agree hey mark now we know you will be retiring with your "gold braid pension" using "our money" how about it be a regular guy 2 busses just do it mark! how is that lobbying job from daley doing?
It would be nice to attend the meeting, but the last one I went to they only allowed 44 people in because more would constitute a fire hazard. Indeed there were a lot of retired police officers that attended the last meeting I would hope there would be a larger venue and a show of force so that Daley would get the message. Question > Can they legally use our pension for their own personal agenda or projects?
Yes, last time they did claim it was a fire hazard but that was them trying to get us to leave. They don't want us to know whats really going on. They want to keep us in the dark but none of us had to leave in fact we simply moved to the adjoining rooms and watched/listened to the proceedings. We need even more bodies this time, they need to know that more and more of us are paying attention to what is happening. If you are expecting a pension, it is time to get involved, we are being completely sold down the river. The Time To Act is Now. Please cosider taking a couple of hours to attend. The train will let you off at the door (Lake Street).
It's time to get behind Mike 100%. Especially all you younger guys and gals on the job who probably aren't thinking long term.
Those of you, myself included, that have their 40 quarters and are eligible for Social Security may never see it. Think "Obamacare" and countless other social services that are sucking the well dry.
401K's/457 Plans, etcetera have taken a beating and are very slowly starting to turn around. Another terrorist attack on home soil (especially if one happens when you're close to pulling the retirement pin) will cripple your nest egg. Unfortunately, it's not a matter of "if" another attack happens, it's "when".
Home values are, on average, 45% less than what they were worth 5 years ago. Again, if you're nearing retirement, what you thought might be your saving grace will be worth shit.
Given the near-certainty that a lot of what you thought would be around to supplement your retirement will probably be worth pennies on the dollar (if not non-existent), it's important to do everything in our power to NOT let the same fate influence our pensions.
Get behind Mike and demand answers and sanctions for those who've wrongfully been feeding off the blood, sweat and tears of the real police. Now is not the time to sit idly by and let the cards fall where they may.
Shield's has proven himself an invaluable asset so far, and there are many of us that are extremely thankful for his testicular fortitude. Let's try to get him a nice showing on the 24th.
That being the case and most feds having Acct degrees, looks like an extremely poor investment! Then whats the catch? You know, mushrooms and feds.......!
What needs to be done is to see who has already scammed the Pension Board over the years and has been collecting money, i.e. bosses who have been fired (or allowed to retire)thieves like Ronnie Nash, Mike Acosta. Lots of questions that should be answered on how the system works! Blue shirts never get these perks so lets open the books and see what we find! Huberman, Weis, all playing "I dont know nothing" when it comes to getting caught with their fingers in the cookie jar! If its legit then as they would tell us, "you have nothing to fear!"
They can afford the busses if its true that certain civilian empolyees are having their law school paid for by the FOP with our union dues!
Mike has got brass balls and has the stuttering prick's puppets worried!
11/19/2009 08:03:00 PM
***********************************
You're only half correct. There is (1) employee of the Pension fund (the Executive director's secretary) going to law school on the pension fund's dime (our $$$)
This is also "old news" that became public with the help of Mike.
Lastly, the FOP and the pension fund are two different entities.
I am so disgusted when our members don't go to FOP or Pension board meetings, then rehash old news or rumors as "breaking news."
Get your head out of the sand junior, and get your lazy ass involved. Get all the facts correct, lest you come off sounding foolish in your posting!
Keep up the good work Mike!

You are absolutely right the firefighters did it right.
Could someone post some type of synopsis of what exactly is going on here?
Weis is paying in and. if after 20 years of paying in he get's 50% isn't that the way it works?
Is it the implication that he will pay in for only 3 years and get 50%?
What exactly are we protesting here? It all seems pretty vague.

Fire Captains are the career service equivilant of Police Lieutenamts.
Yes, captains are not getting a gold braid pension, but they are considered an " exempt rank" by the dept. and by the pension board ( by vote of the board). So, if you are a captain with three years in grade and are promoted for your last year to commander, you can petition the pension board for the gold braid pension. The board has so voted in the past.

SCC, I was at the Pension Fund earlier today for the investment meeting. Numerous companies came in and made presentations to the fund. All of them were open to the public.
Well, guess who shows up? DV Urban Realty. Yes, that DV. "V" as in Vanecko, the mayor's nephew. All of a sudden, a motion is made to take the Board into executive session so that what DV has to say cannot be reported or heard. WTF!! Anyhow, only 3 Daley appointed trustees were present at the meeting. They, of course, voted to go into executive session. We had 3 elected police reps present ("Dinner Bell" Hauser was out of town on vacation). They were Shields, Lazzaro and Maloney. If they stay together and vote no, it's a tie and the motion fails. Guess what? The motion passed. Asshole Lt. Maloney voted with the City appointees so we were unable to see or hear DV's presentation. I'm glad Maloney thinks our investments should be shielded from the prying eyes of the very people he is supposed to represent.
MALONEY NEEDS TO GO! SCC, please verify everything I just said. It's all true. And please consider making this a post. The police will never have a chance at the Board if we have a Lieutenant that constantly screws us Lt. James Maloney.

You are at least partially correct. The employer matches the employee's contribution to Social Security, in the year paid, but the city must contribte to the Pension Fund 2 times the total contribtions of member's from 2 years prior, thus it costs the city more to contribute to the Fund. Having said that, one could argut that since they will probably not be around long enough to vest in the fund (10 years), assuming contributing to it allows them to avoid Social Security contributions, paying into the fund and withdrawing the money from it in 3,4 or whateve years is not a bad idea. At least the cash will be available to them when they leave, with a small amount of interest. If it goes into Social Security, it is lost to them forever. If it also boosts the city's contributions to the fund, that isn't a bad thing either.
has anyone checked out Mitchell Ware and other civilians that followed over the years, to see if they are on our Police Pension?

Good ole Mitchell had a circuit court judge order the board to pay his pension.
Deferred Comp would be the way to go if available to Weis. Only problem is he can't defer as much as he would like! 310K is the problem. What a nice problem to have!
Im not realing bashing the guy but, other than making these issues know what has this Sheilds guy really done. Is he just grandstanding in order to get an elected spot on FOP. Until he actually does something other than talking be very leary on this guy.
Why don't you ask that same question of Donahue or go back and look at all the con artists like Nolan, Dineen, etc! They were all "clout people!" Look where they came from! I say give Shields a chance and if fails, vote him out! The problem is, we just kept electing the other three and that is why we are where we are! WTFU! Look up lemmings in th dictionary and then look around! They never did anything as outrageous as Shields did! Slamming Huberman on Youtube was genius! 21st Century thinking! Use the media on these thieves! Without Shields, Huberman, Weis would be quietly "lying in the weeds" awaiting their pension checks!
How about checking into fired or retired bosses who scammed or pleaded down to get a pension! Two people come to mind, Ronnie Nash and Mike Acosta! If they were blue shirts Daley would be taking their pensions away! Being a thief is a badge of honor if you are connected in this city! I believe Thomas got "line of duty" pension dying from a heart attack. Big difference in payout. Do police officers have that same benefit? Bosses are being rehired as civilians and then running their same scam. Hang around, drink some coffee then go home. Collect a pension check on top of it! Daley throws his little "hissy" fits so he doesn't have to answer to the media! Silly, thats just silly! This city is about as straight as Archer!

do you mean as straight as Milwaukee Ave?
Sox fan , Cubs fan! Both sides of town! SW Highway is crooked too! Same with NW Highway?
Sheilds already has DONE some things to my way of thinking. I like that he's poking his nose into all the cracks and then telling all of us. I know more about the pension than I've ever known. I don't think you have to warn grown men and women about another copper unless you know he's a child molester or something. you sound a bit ridiculous or controlling at the least by continually telling people what to think.
