Another Nail in the Coffin

Chicago's convention business continues it's slide into irrelevance:
  • McCormick Place is losing a second key piece of its convention business within a week, as the plastics industry trade show has decided to move to Orlando for 2012 and 2015 after nearly four decades in Chicago.

The announcement this morning comes on the heels of a decision by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society last week to move its 2012 annual meeting to Las Vegas.

Plastics show officials said they expect the decision to yield up to $20 million in savings for exhibitors and attendees, with about half that coming from savings in travel-related costs.
Imagine that - saving $20 million just by not even showing up in Chicago. If that isn't the saddest commentary on Daley's Chicago, we don't know what is.

The old National Sporting Goods Show brought millions to Chicago. Ooops, they displayed guns.

The SHOT show brings millions to Las Vegas or Orlando every year.
If the SHOT show came to Chicago the exhibiters would all be in jail.

The SHOT show is closed to the public but sells gund to government and licensed retailers.

The NRA has a Convention every year that brings in millions. Daley would have them all in chains.

Chicago is on life support and needs to be put out of its misery.

It's so sad to sit back and watch what King Daley aka "The great Taxer" is doing to our city. This guy doesn't know simple economics 101. You can never tax yourself into prosparity, but he thinks you can. Someone smart and not corrupt needs to do something FAST!!!

While Daley is mostly to blame, the unions at McCormick Place are just as much to blame. Regulations imposed on exhibitors during shows are beyond belief.
How about not being allowed to plug in your own electric cords?
Nope!
Need a qualified union electrician to do it!
Cost?
Up to $500 per day.
How about the shitty food and drink served at these shows.

Nobody in their right mind would continue to put up with this shit.

Adios convention business

There were some great comments in the previous thread on this Chicago union thug scam to bleed corporations dry.

Good for the corporate honchos in abandoning this corrupt city for locations that welcome and treat them with courtesy and gladly provide great value in convention business.

I have worked part time security jobs at McCormick Place since the mid 70's. Nothing has changed since then. These complaints were made then about over charging and they are being made now. The democratic party and the unions have know about this for all of this time, no surprise here. But, now the bad economic times have caused many conventions to leave the city, for good.

I can't wait till the 2010 census. You think conventions are the only things leaving this city and county. Good Bye tax base. Good thing is the city won't be able to pay you enough to afford to live here.

IT'S BEEN YEARS SINCE I HAVE BEEN TO ANYTHING AT McCORMICK PLACE BUT I REMEMBER THAT IT COST A FORTUNE TO PARK (30.00) OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. $8.00 FOR A BULLSHIT LUNCH-MEAT SANDWICH(TURKEY). I WON'T DO ANYTHING IN THE CITY OR GO ANYWHERE IN THE CITY AND SPEND A DIME. I WOULDN'T EVEN STOP AND BUY A CUP OF COFFEE. THANKFULLY THAT IS COVERED. I DON'T EVEN GET A HAIRCUT IN THE CITY ANYMORE. WHY WOULD YOU PAY TO PARK FOR THAT? FOR THOSE OF US THAT LIVE ON THE EDGE OF THE CITY,IT'S JUST A SHORT HOP TO THE BURBS AND FREE PARKING. I HAVEN'T BOUGHT GAS IN THE CITY IN YEARS. I CAN'T AFFORD TO GO TO A BEARS GAME. SAME FOR THE SOX AND THAT OTHER TEAM.
IT USED TO BE A NICE CITY. I USED TO ENJOY VENETION NIGHT. SAME THING WITH THE BLUES FEST AND JAZZ FEST. OH WELL,THERE IS ALOT TO DO IN THE SUBURBS AND IT IS CHEAPER AND SAFER.
LIKE I SAID,IT USED TO BE A NICE CITY. SAD.
THANK YOU RICHIE BABA AND YOUR 50 THIEVES.

There already rumors that the Auto show is going to leave for another city more "flashy city" hint [ maybe Las Vegas or Orlando] for the same reasons that goes on at the "Mistake by the lake"!

Heard it from an inside source that is related to me. He stated from a reliable source from within the organization, the powers that be stated that Chicago is the next Detroit! Just a meaningless pit stop not to spend money in!

I call BS on that. The Auto Show is for retail buyers, not for the industry, and there are lots of potential retail buyers in and near Chicago. But I can see the show going to Rosemont.

Try being a trucker bringing a load into McCormick Pl. First it cost you $19 to just pull into the marshalling area, then you stand in line to check in, they then give you a target time, which is like an appointment, next they will call you on your cell phone and tell you to pull out into the street and wait, then some teamster pulls up in his SUV and tells you to pull up some more, then when you finally get into the dock area another highly paid teamster tells you which dock to back into, then the fun begins, another teamster( Foreman) approaches and asks for your paperwork, then you wait for another goof to come with the fork truck to unload you, it takes about 35 minutes for him to come back for another skid, then then take a break for about 30 mins, bullshit with each other, then lunch is suppossed to be 30 mins, but is over an hour. they all complain about not having work but they have FUCKED over people because of the teamsters and Daleys pals this is the apyback, now because they followed in their Bridgeport And Grand Ave fathers footsteps they will all be out of jobs soon. Just wait, give it time and Navy Pier will be shuttered. just wait.

The "auto show" isn't exclusive to Chicago. It is already hosted in dozens of major cities throughout the U.S.

Maybe it just won't stop in Chicago.

You heard it here second!
