Cozzi Bracelets

A worthy cause:
  • You've expressed your outrage.
    Please show your support.

We are now selling light blue rubber bracelets for Bill Cozzi. Some say, "Free Bill Cozzi" and some say "Remember Bill Cozzi." Bracelets will be sold for $10.00 each.

The original intent was to raise money for Bill and put it into an account for when Bill gets released from prison. If Bill was unable to collect, the beneficiary of that account would be the Police Memorial Foundation. After talking to Bill and his family, Bill is declining the money but is asking that all proceeds go directly to the Police Memorial Foundation.

Bill was a big supporter of the Police Memorial as he ran the 5K and donated money to the Foundation. What a kind and generous act on his part to think of the Police Memorial Foundation instead of himself while he is going through such a difficult period in his life.

The selling of the bracelets will serve 2 great purposes. Wearing it will show support for Bill and buying it will support the Police Memorial Foundation.

Please remember what happened to Bill can happen to any one of us and it's important not to forget about each other.

These are being sold by a group of people who feel it's important to remember. Today is the first day of the sale. Bracelets will start filtering out to the districts this week. Of course, you can find them in Bill's old district.

They will also be sold tomorrow, 17 November at the union meeting and in the union store.

It would be a great show of force for all of us to stick together and wear these. Thanks for your support.

I'm sorry, but does this man have a family? Kids who might have had a better Christmas if Dad was still working at the job he loved?

I want to support Cozzi, not the memorial. Is there something in place for his wife, kids, whoever?

Who is behind this? On the surface it's a noble cause for Bill Cozzi. Does John Northern know who is collecting the money? I'd feel much better about buying some if it had Northside's blessing. I trust him. Others not so much.

I would not mind a $5 matching red band saying "Fuck Daley, Masters and Weis." I would only wear the red one off duty.

FREE BILL COZZI!

I sent Cozzi a card and he wrote back within one week. He is very depressed and lonely. Could someone please tell me how to send him books to read. Someone told me you can't send tbem directly to him. I have never met the man but I believe he truely got fucked over by the department.

Not to disrepect the worthy cause of giving police foundation money to officers and/or families, but - shouldn't the money from the bracelets go directly to Cozzi? Or does the foundation intend to cut Bill a check when he gets out, for the undo lifetime stress brought upon him by one man?

I think its noble of all of you to keep this man in your memory. I keep remembering J-Fed statement that he never witnessed such a terrible act.
Again I have to say I took much worse from the Nuns Of The Blessed Virgin Mary, while attending Catholic School here in Chicago.
High School with the Christian Brothers was even worse. Did he ever play High School Foot Ball ? Come on the man lost his temper, and was punished. Jail was way too much.

Sorry...The Police Memorial is almost like the City Council..it's grabbing every cent and sorry..I don't see where all that money is going. I'd like to see their REAL budget, assets and expenses. I'd rather give the money to Cozzi or his family...give the money to Northern...then have him give it to Cozzi in a shoebox when he gets out...Cozzi is going to need some serious cash when he gets out...or how about giving him the Director's spot for the Police Memorial Foundation when he gets out...I'd be happy with that!!!

Amen brother or sister, they too lost me when they mentioned the police memorial. God bless our fallen heroes and God bless Cozzi and his family, but let's not put more money in Cline's pocket. The memorial foundation needs to be removed from this Cozzi benefit for legitimacy and respectability now.

When will you cry babies wake up and realize that your donations DO NOT PAY SALARIES for individuals at the Police Memorial Foundation. Someone recently posted the breakdown of what money is collected and where it goes. Once again, your donation does not go to pay salaries. But then again, you won't believe that and will continue to cry and bad mouth the foundation. I really feel sorry for you and it just goes to show, YOU DON'T CARE.

Bill Cozzi's family knows about this and approves it. As far as your thoughts about the Police Memorial Foundation, Bill was and is a supporter and wanted the money to go there instead of himself. Instead of constantly bashing the Foundation, try going on the night the names of the fallen are read and look at the children of the fallen police officers who no longer have one parent. It's a pretty humbling thing and most have never experienced that kind of pain. The Police Memorial Foundation helps the families of our fallen and injured brothers and sisters and that in itself is awesome. For the person who bashes the Foundation, what do you do to help?

What a sad statement that some fellow police officers will bad mouth the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. Makes me ashamed of those same fellow police officers who have nothing better to do than complain about this organization. The same organization that would cut a check to you or your family member if you were in need.

sorry no way am im giving to the police memorial. Im sick of all those merit promotions that were handed out for the big collectors. The 5 mile run & the A/4motorcycle ride to name a couple. It is a crime and the feds should look at it. Just look at who was in charge of these events. All of them got promotions and then spent a couple of months in patrol and right back to the D's and other nice units. WTF Im so sorry Bill I will support you in other ways. If I send you money you will haveno choice but to take it. God Bless You and God Speed.

Sgt. Northen

Great Cozzi speech at the FOP meeting tonight. It was terrible what they did to him. We are sending him a Thanksgiving card.
We got the $10 blue wristbands for his donation to the CPD Memorial Fund. Please tell him to stay strong and we all want him free. When you asked for the vote, it was unanimous. You really care. Thank you for speaking up for us.

Northen was at the FOP meeting and said if anyone needs someone to blame for the blue bands they can blame him but he cannot take the credit but is willing to shoulder all blame if the department finds need to name a scapegoat.

Pension Board Rep Mike Shields said he needs support at the next pension board meeting to ensure that the civilian high ranking members trying to steal from our pension fund are indeed forced out.

The next scheduled meeting of the Pension Board is November 25th Wednesday, 0900 hrs. at Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund

I am not a Cline fan, he had his favorites,I was not on that list.
But look here folks, he did push for the memorial, and he did get get it done. And I would be willing to bet that most of his pay goes back to the memorial as a donation.
Give the man credit, we have a memorial foundation that both helps officers families and remembers their sacrifices.

For those that honestly care...
From day one, 100% (that means EVERY penny) donated from the po-po (active and retired) goes to the family(ies) of deceased, incapacitated or in-need Chicago Police Officers.
Any operating expenses, i.e. mailings, rent, utilities, etc. come from corporate donors. Since they are a non-for-profit organization the publish all their expenses as required by law.
If Bill Cozzi has no problem with it, let's stand behind him.
P.S. Thanks, John Northen

Kudo's to the poster who brought to light the fact that Cline received a salary of 81,000.00. Totally fair in as much as the foundation has provided over 700,000.00 as of this writing to police families in need. I checked the website and the tax return is posted with all the details that the naysayers thrive to know. As a result of this research I strongly remain a supporter of this foundation. I also did some research of other believed to be noble charities that are touted in our fair city. I suggest you examine their records also. You may find it interesting and change the way or who you contribute to. I will not smear them in this forum. Finally on to Bill Cozzi. It is unfair that he is in prison, Yes. But even Cozzi agreed that what he did was wrong. The initial discipline for his transgression was determined and accepted. However I think if we want to show support for this man, a benefit for his family would be in order. In closing, as a result of the memorial foundation, the children of officers killed in the line of duty will never have to worry about educational expenses for their children, they will never be forgotten. To the naysayers, do you want the same consideration for your families? Will you refuse assistance for your family if it is needed? I think not. I call on the blogmaster to refrain from posting comments attacking the foundation without merit. If you did not like Cline that is fine, but no one and I mean no one can deny that the cause is a just one. We have the finest police memorial in the country. Ask the families of slain officers if they think the foundation is not just. Honor their memory ... Bill Cozzi does.

As someone who recently received a check from the Memorial, I can't express my gratefulness. I love all of you who support this fund. I was at my wits end with bills that kept coming and growing. My PPO is almost life time total is all but gone. I will never get better only sicker. My friends say I'm crazy for still working instead of seeking disability. As long as I can still get out of bed, walk, talk and feed myself, I'll be there. $10.00 is not too much to ask for a memorial that helps so many. So for you Bill Cozzi to THINK of coppers like me GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS for you will always be in my prayers.
Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

Yes we know the donations from the current and retired officers go directly to the police or their family. Yes we know that the corporation donation pays phil's salary and admin costs.

The problem is that phil's salary is for him to wine and dine the corporates. Who picks up the tab?

Besides, just think that there would be $81,000 more in the fund every year, if phil didn't accept a salary?

Phil had that other dude (forgot name right now) be the foundation director while he was the superintendent. Did that other dude receive a salary too?

For someone who acted so true blue loyal, phil should not, out of the goodness of his heart and because its the right thing to do and because he's got more money than god, accept a salary from the foundation.

It stinks of greed, like it was always the plan.
Whatever excuse he has, he has no excuse for accepting a salary from the foundation. Funny how the minute he retired he had no problem
