A Real Enforcement Tool
Someone grew a brain at Council Chambers evidently:
- People caught driving on a revoked or suspended license in Chicago could soon have their cars impounded.
An ordinance to take that action was approved today by the Chicago city council's police and fire committee. A previous, similar proposal failed because the Department of Streets and Sanitation did not have sufficient room for impounded vehicles.
The new ordinance goes before the full city council Wednesday.
Now will it pass the full Council? Remember, this is going to come down on those who think that driving is a right, not a privilege. And on owners who lend their cars to people who shouldn't be anywhere near a bicycle, let alone a vehicle. This could be interesting.

The city has placed a parking meter on every street to stick it to every working joe. But try to stick it to a shithead, that needs to be debated. The city that works.

I read this title real quick, ("A Real Enforcement Tool") and I thought it was about J-Fed...
At a glance, I misread it as "A Real Deformed Tool" !

While it's an excellent tool to remove both illegal drivers and non-roadworthy vehicles from the streets, let's not be blinded to the REAL motivation behind this latest action.
REVENUE.
It's just another last-ditch effort by Shortshanks to further line his pockets before his ouster. He knows his days are numbered and he's pulling out all of the stops.
Unless there's some form of monetary gain in it beyond Impound Court for those directly involved for it's implementation and enforcement (the working coppers), why bother? Plus, it's only a matter of time before the ghetto politicians and reverends cry racism because the majority of those that are going to get whacked for this shit will reside in minority communities.

Please keep us updated on this! I'd love to help clear out the south side. You know, free up a ton of parking spots for the good citizen.
I like it. Zero tolerance. Take America back. Yes I know, your beat will get out of hand while your writing up the tow and impound, but the end result it awesome. People should be frightened to drive in Chicago if they are not legit. We will no longer be a sanctuary city because of this. Awesome. Stop taxing the hell out of everyone and price gauging work on McCormick Place and Over Priced Residential Property with No parking spaces or how about requiring these MF that get this land cheap and build on it to build enough parking. not only should the car be impounded but the driver should be held on a d-bond instead of being given an i-bond--- come up with the cash for bond or get sent to court in the morning and put before a judge... drivers should also have to show a valid license before being able to buy plates for a vehicle.... streets and sans was right in saying that they have no room to put all these vehicles.... talk to any street cop and they will tell you they could spend their whole tour of duty doing tvb's and towing cars because so many people in this city drive without a valid license or insurance....
Speaking of the City Council, they have a Cook County Commissioner Gainer (nepotism?) on Fox news to discuss the county tax roll back, but Jan Jeffcoat asked her if she felt that the Chicago City Council with its 50 aldermen was TOO BIG and should be reduced in size.(TELL ME THE REFERENDUM ATTEMPT WAS A WASTE OF TIME!!!)
Gainer was also asked what can the city do about losing conventions to other American cities.

About fu--ing time to bad they didn't think of it earlier before are contract expired. Then we might of had the money for a decent raise, adequately fund the pension, hire more officers, and now retro, but hell you know Chicago, the money would of disappeared!!! Just saw a report on Fox news that the city wrote 12,000 more parking tickets this year but revenue from those tickets is DOWN by $ 4 million!
I guess writing tickets on those gang bangers, abandoned autos and ghetto vehicles is working. Coppers get credit for writing LEGIT tickets, but Richie can't get blood out of a turnip. When he tries to 'boot' these piece of shit autos, the owners just go buy another $300 junker and let him keep the old junker because its not worth the boot fee. I love it!
i have not seen a chicago police cruiser do a traffic stop in a long time. just look at all the vehicles blowing stop signs and striking pedestrains. many drivers are back on their cell phones while driving. it is like the the wild west! nobody cares! the 3 or 4 traffic cars that are up in the afternoon are on LSD and the rest of the city is up for grabs.
The next time you arrest an illegal alien for driving without a license, demand that the desk sergeant has the driver printed. Just do not let them I bond based on the phony namne given. This way, the secretary of state will generate a driver's license number and then suspend the license for failure to appear in court. The next time you can confiscate the alien's car.
My department has been doing this for a long time. I can't say it helps much, if they are gonna drive, they are gonna drive. They'll just go out and buy a new beater.

cruisers are boats. the marine unit doesn't write speeders on lake michigan
and right under that article a judge declared the impound practice unconstitutional
If you take their cars, they have to ride the CTA! CTA will increase fares and parking rates will continue to go up for only those who can pay. Get in where you fit in!

McCormick Place may have plenty af AVAILABLE space, but it sure as hell won't be FREE!
I use to make a little bit of OT on the impounds. 1 car= 3 hours and I averaged about 3 or 4 cars a period, and those were nice OT checks.
When they stopped inviting me to Impound hearings...I stopped impounding cars.
Wonder if they are going to start inviting us to the hearings again??
If not- this "new" ordinance is a exercise in futility as I will still not be writing tickets.

If you cannot find a way to search a vehicle, you have no business making traffic stops, much less being a police officer.
Why has the fine been reduced from 1,000.00 to 500.00 The steeper the penalty the quicker the lesson !!!!

Hey SCC I read an article in the Sun times right below where the story of inpmonding cars was that state that a DuPage County judge said the it is unconstitional to impound caes for that reason. Will Daley once again disobey the constiution like he does for the handgun law?

Because for $1,000, it's not worth the value of the car. At $500, the city probably feels that a shithead will fork over this amount and not leave yet another scrap heap for the city to have towed and crushed for $150.
Listen, its not that they are trying to punish the working class or something, but me and my family need licenses to drive, we obey the rules, and the dog asses that don't work, deal dope and rob and steal and don't have a drivers license, FUCK THEM, take their cars, it;s an insult that we don't do our jobs and ticket them, take thier cars and etc. It's time to man up and enforce the laws. If you have ever hadbeen in an accident with an uninsured or un licensed driver, you get screwed, you pay your deductible and are inconvenienced bigtime.
