- Update: A 12-year-old West Side boy who has been missing since Friday morning has been located safely and has been reunited with his family, police said this evening.
According to police, Kimani Alexander stayed at a friend's home Friday evening.
This was one of a dozen or more missing reports blasted across the Internet via BreakingNews.com and other news outlets. And where does he end up? At a friend's house having an unauthorized sleepover.
Is it safe to say the parents (or parent) are facing charges? Or being billed for wasting everyone's time? Or making it harder to enlist the assistance of the public the next time some unsupervised child goes missing due to neglect?
In addition to this "missing," we've seen half-a-dozen other kids turn up, including a 14-year-old who was shacking up a 19-year-old.

It must suck elephant balls to be a lowly blue shirt these days with the big hullabaloo going on about taking missing person reports 'snicker,snicker' seriously. I do remember back when I worked in patrol and had to notify missing persons, how the dicks at the other end of the line always seemed to be in a crabby mood like someone pissed in there Cookie Crisp cereal. Somehow, I doubt this recent 1950's wave of hysteria has improved there demeanor.
Too bad for them! That's why they get paid extra thousands of dollars to do there job and live in nice castles and take morning swims in piles of gold coins before they go to work.
Still, even us Delta Force teams can lend a helping hand. Like the other day, while doing surveillance from a dumptser behind a 7-11, looking for Gaylords, I stumbled upon a 12 year old toddler. The kid claimed to have been abducted a week ago by Mr. Stranger Danger and was now lost, unable to find his parents. Since I knew it would take a solar system eternity for a marked car to show up, I decided to do the paper.
It wasn't very hard to do. All I wrote on the back of the misc. x card, before turning it in, was, "subject advised recontact when he found his parents. Notifications refused."
If we all do our part then this department might not be totally lost. Until next time fellow Spartans, take care out there.

A bit off-topic, but did anyone catch Richie and J-Fed at some community meeting on the south side, in reference to that missing girl that was killed and found 2 weeks later? Jody told the crowd that the Dept had received "zero tips" regarding this kid's death. The mighty midgit then told the crowd that when a police officer does something wrong, hundreds of people protest (and then he added, "rightfully so"), but when a child is killed, no one says a word. That's kinda ballsy for him...usually, he doesn't get that blunt.

This is a good thing. The police department issues alerts and press releases as required. Then it is up to the news media and the public to get worked up about them or not.

The Commander of the Youth Division, Roberta Bartik, refused to allow us to charge her. We were told we could charge her after the girls were found, but since she was cooperating, we were NOT to touch her.
No idea if that was her decision, or if someone was dictating to her.
If she'd been charged, we'd already KNOW what happened to the girls. Now we probably won't ever know.

Nice try Kevin. No way Kevin Jans gets elected to high office in the FOP. They would all have to go down in a plane crash for that to happen.
16% over 5 years is what the City offered in October 2007. Who knew everything would tank like it did.
That comes to 3.2% a year, laughed at in 2007, looks pretty good about now. That is the offer the City "pulled off the table." It would be great if it is way front loaded. Probably not however.
At any rate, a 16% raise over 5 years in this economy is huge. Don't expect the CPD to get back up to 13,500 sworn anytime soon.
All that said, I seriously doubt Bella said anything about negotiations. They are all being conspicuously silent and rightly so.
The end of this terribly divisive contract ordeal is in sight. I would take a similar yearly raise extended a few years just to get it to 7 years so we don't have to go through this shit again soon.
Remember, the 4 and 2 is up for renegotiation at the end of 2012.
I should have Alzheimers real good by then so I likely won't care.

High placed non-police source confirms it's for four years with retro. City knows they can't get around it since it was on the table before Shortshamks had his hissy fit. Certain city officials were briefed as a part of the budget process.

License plates just went up from 79 to 99, thats a 25% increase in one year. The drivers licenses went up from $10 to $30 in one year; thats a 300% increase. Now, still think that 4% a year over 4 years is a good deal???
The parking meter fee increases are as follows:
2009 2010 % Increase
$1.00/hr $1.25/hr 25%
$2.00/hr $2.50/hr 25%
$3.50/hr $4.25/hr 21%
Why, when we talk about raises, all we can get is low single digits, but when government raises taxes/fees, etc, they talk in high double, triple digits???
