Gitmo Terrorists on the Way?
- The Land of Lincoln may still be licking its wounds–and certain real estate transactions–over Chicago’s losing the Olympics to Rio, but the Obama Administration has delivered up a small consolation prize: the state’s very own federal prison for terrorists. Big Government has received what is claimed to be a leaked DOJ memo that was allegedly sent yesterday from Eric Holder’s Department of Justice to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
So all those hearings people wanted to hold regarding sending illegal combatants to Illinois? Not going to happen via Executive Order.

The Department has to be well and ready for events occurring outside of city limits but might directly affect it's balance. We will nedd more than your average TARA program to enhance officer awareness and the tips and clues of what's taking place. The information highway must be a two way between department Bureaus of CPD and other agencies alike.
Officers are encouraged to sign up for any upcoming training events and take advantage of new Terrorism classes and the Superintendent's Speaker Series.
Never be complacent and always be aware of your surrounding. One terrorist was caught in 024 after two officers did exactly what suppose to be done: reporting via correct patrol procedures and going one step extra in completing contact cards and forwarding information reports promptly.
The new age of terrorism is here boys and girls and us officers are definitely the first and probably the last line of defense. Please take advantage of the TLO program. Eventhough, like anything else on this department, things should be better and more efficient but something is better than nothing and if we are to be prepared then we have to gain the understanding of what is it we need to do.
This job is becoming more involved and we are busy as is answering calls and investigating index crimes. Now we have to make it our business to be educated on how to STOP ALL types of terrorists attacks against our families, neighbors and loved ones.

The terrorists aren't going to attack Chicago because some of their "Brothers in Arms" are locked up in Thompson, Ill. They don't care about them and wouldn't waste their time on trying to free them for symbolic purposes. They'll attack Chicago or wherever because they hate America. People seem to think these people in Gitmo have magical powers or something. They're just assholes like all the other assholes locked up here. Those people in the Rockford area need jobs, badly. I'd say a few extra layers of screening would be necessary for the guards, but when you treat these guys like they're something special, you give them power they definitely don't deserve.

Security concerns are not the main problem with this. None of them will escape. Could there be an attack related to them being housed here? Yes, but that's still not the main issue and its going to happen again somewhere in CONUS anyways. These people are fighting a 1400 year jihad. We're not even allowed to say jihad.

I agree with this idea. It is bringing good high paying secure jobs to an area that really needs it. If the feds didn't give it to Illinois, some other state would benefit. Also, the prison is brand new and just collecting dust.

Seems to me a prison holding former Gitmo detainees would be a beautiful target for terrorists hoping to free their brethren. 450-500 new jobs is what the estimate is, with an additional 1500 Federal jobs/guards imported to the area.
Agreed, the 500 jobs will be cooks, janitors, grounds maintenance, administrative assistants, whatever, but the mayor of Thomson, Illinois and others expect those jobs will halve the unemployment rate in their county.
The additional 1500 Federal employees will need homes, food, restaurants on their off-time, shoe repair shops and drugstores. I think THAT is where the projection of a jobs stimulus is.
More people eating at Arby's means longer hours and more help needed at Arby's. More people buying gas at local stations and more people needing their cars repaired at local shops. More residents means more need for entertainment venues.
There won't be as many jobs as Quinn claims, but there won't be ZERO jobs, either.
That is a brand new empty facility there. ILL just can't get their act together, build a new prison and don't use it. They should follow the Shanks way of doing things and LEASE it to the FEDS for 10 years. They are always saying the prisons are so crowded, I don't know why they never started to use this place. They might need it in the future and wish they never sold it to the FEDS.
If we put the Gitmo Terrorists there, where will we house our domestic terrorists, you know, the IL. Democratic Party at?

The problem with moving terror suspects to the Thompson prison is not the possibility of their escape but the very real probability that some federal judge will issue an Order of Habeus Corpus, claiming that the Federal Circuit Court has juristiction over them since they are now physically located in his/her territory.

One thing there are plenty of is terrorists. They don't have to go breaking them out of jail to get one. They just aren't that special. Just go over to Yemen, Saudi-Arabia, Gaza, Iran or Egypt (and others places) and they will line up 10 deep for the honor of strapping on a semtex vest.
Better to just run them through the biggest tree chipper we can find and maybe get some fertilizer value out of them for a forest preserve or something.

Too bad the Vought F-8 Crusader (originally F8U) carrier based fighter aircraft isn't still in service.
