Happy Ending
Englewood District officers were looking for the offender in a robbery that occurred on the 1000 block of West 63rd St. when they spotted a man matching the description at about 12:40 p.m., police said in a news release.
The suspect fled on foot when officers tried speaking with him. The suspect then pointed a handgun at the pursuing officers, one whom fired, but missed the fleeing man, police said.
Police said an assisting officer who saw the suspect pointing the handgun opened fire on the suspect, striking him in the 6200 block of South Morgan Street. The unidentified man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Police recovered a weapon at the scene.
We don't know if it's just us, but these stories seem to be popping up more and more lately. Be careful. A wise Patrol Specialist once told us that the colder weather just meant that more of the people you run into outside are the hard core assholes who are up to no good - "Decent people stay inside after dark and when the temperature drops below freezing." It sure seems that way sometimes.

This is my favorite kind of "happy ending".
Well done, officers.
My second favorite kind of happy ending is found on Craigslist. Please don't tell Tom Dart. He'll hold a news conference.
Thanks comm KR. Your people messed up our furlo picks and many of us get screwed. Kick us while were down. Spineless
And there will probably be more. Remember there are still all those stolen .22 cals out there.
Nice one. Glad u r okay!
Be careful out there you guys. There's only skeleton crews citywide.
...Because decent people have to get up in the morning to go to work or school. No time to be ass grabbing, jaw jacking and being a mope.
Be careful... This was a bad year for attempts to kill P.O.'s not just here but nation-wide and no one worthwhile but the Police have seemed to noticed.
Do what you have to do to go home to your families.
If you have to pull the trigger, pull it with maximum prejudice. There are fools out here who think Policemen are supposed to willingly take a bullet because it's "heroic" and it makes them feel good reading about an honors funeral but they cry over the lawful demise of dogs who aim guns, cars etc. at the Police.
The mayor, alderfools and some bosses will hip-check, elbow and step on the backs of each others shoes to wipe false tears for t.v. lights at a copper's funeral. Dead Policemen are good press in this town but Daley Inc. wishes the survivors would just go away as they're a political liability to be beat on to score points with a constituency of resolute non-contributors and their sympathizers.
Don't let your guard down and be mindful of some of the U.S.M.C Rules of Gunfighting. (as adopted by C.P.D. God Bless all of our men and women who serve.)
Rule VI: If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun. Better still, bring all of your friends who have long guns.
Rule XIX: Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.
Rule XXI: Be polite. Be professional, but have a plan in mind to kill everyone you encounter.
Rule XXII: Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
Rule XXIV: Do not attend a gunfight unless armed at a minimum with a handgun of which the caliber designation begins with the number ".4"
...It's a mean season to be the Police.
Thank God the officers are okay. Remember, these mutts have nothing to loose. Also don't forget they layer up on the clothing so make sure searches are done real good. I want all of you to finish up the year with your families, be careful
Englewood again. Yet J-Fed continues to screw over patrol in 007 with his unfair and corrupt-ridden assignments of newly made ranking officers to prime 2nd watch positions. Keep hustling Englewood! J-Fed's got your back's.....for a dartboard.
Glad all officers involved are safe. Stay safe and let's make sure to back each other up.
Englewood contains the worst of the worst. Confrontational animals that will defy and challenge, and not to mention FIGHT! Train-Train-Train! Shoot to kill. Practice. Use real holsters and carry more than 1 magazine. This time of the year, the professional gangsters are in full force. They don't think about next week or next year. We go home at night and have familes waiting for us.

What this neighborhood has become is a sin. Englewood was such a vibrant place to live and grow up. It's the residents. I remember we lived there and the neighborhood was changing. My younger brothers would go across the street to the store for milk, and they would be robbed.
I have a brother that lives in California and wanted to take his wife to show her where he grew up. We had to tell him that to do that would take their lives in their hands.
That was a great neighborhood. Great shopping, movie theaters and a lot of nice parks all around. What is there now? It looks like Berlin after the bomb. What a shame. Who are they going to blame that on?

Although I agree with many of the points made by this person "J-Fed continues to screw over patrol in 007 with his unfair and corrupt-ridden assignments of newly made ranking officers to prime 2nd watch positions."
I do NOT agree with his "keep hustling Englewood" if by that he/she means stop working. The only thing keeping us safe in englewood is the fact that the officers are working and doing their job. By doing this they are not just protecting the community of Englewood, but are protecting every officer out there by taking the bad guys off the street when they can. If we left them alone, we would surely become an even BIGGER target for them. They may have little respect for us, but due to our daily actions, they also know we will fight back. GREAT job to the officers involved.
Signed: A proud to be Englewood Ranger!

Who are you referring to?
I'm glad the bad guy is gone and the good guys get to go home to their families. To all you guys dealing with the animals on a daily basis- practice, practice, practice with your duty weapons. Go to the range on a weekly basis and shoot reloads if necessary. Keep your weapon cleaned and oiled and ready to go on a seconds notice. The animal is out to get you and you have to be be prepared. Stay safe and to all- Merry Christmas.
There are certain aspects of this job and serving in a combat zone that are similar, I am not peaching I am just stating some obvious facts after having been involved in both on more that one occasion, and as a Sgt. on this job I think these need to be addressed.
Training:
We as a police department do not train. We qualify ONCRE a YEAR twice if you carry and auxiliary weapon. The department gives us 100 rnds of ammo a year to train with……… if the ranges are open and working !!! Its better than nothing but it should be 100 rnds a month. There are all kinds of reasons that we don’t train: time money man power. our own laziness ect. Those reasons are excuses…………… and excuses are like………………. There should be a mandatory training schedule
Bottom line
YOU FIGHT THE WAY YOU TRAIN
I have been to many police funerals.
Mental Attitude:
The mind set of combat is a learned condition.......
In a combat zone that mind set is more easily maintained…… you are well TRAINED by people who have Been there, Done that and don t need to wear the t shirt
But as a policeman you have to be able to go from having a cup of coffee to looking an offender in the eye and killing him in about .5 seconds…….. the alternative is to be carried by six ………..
"The enemy has that mind set………. As the police the enemy sets the rules of engagement we have to react
Mission of the Marine Rifle Squad------ " To locate, close with, and destroy the enemy, by fire and maneuver, or repel the enemy's assault by fire and close combat.
The second half of the mission statement is more applicable to police work: The majority of police firefights are more defensive we are reacting to a threat as opposed to being on the offensive With the correct mind set you can and will survive
The Enemy
There are plenty of people in this city who don t give a damn that you are the police and have no qualms about killing you.
Similar to Iraq and Afghanistan, the enemy is not easily identifiable….
Weapons Maintenance. Automatics have to be cleaned and oiled………
very few of us even know how to speed load a revolver. Although not needed as often as in a combat zone you still have to clean them……. That was the reason for weapons inspections…… not to play mind games
Weapons Proficiency: Self Explanatory
Yet for the most part we don t practice
Ammo:
If after your career when you are fat dumb and happy on a beach somewhere and never needed that 3rd or 4th magazine good for you ………. Running out of ammunition in a firefight is not a feeling you ever want to experience it is like getting shot you don t need to experience it to know it ll suck and very well maybe fatal to you or to your partner
Contarcts, mayors, bosses they dont mean anything when some bad guy is trying to kill you........ "Yea though I walk through the valley of the Shadow of Death I shall fear no evil... for I am the meanest motherfucker in the valley !!!
Thanks comm KR. Your people messed up our furlo picks and many of us get screwed. Kick us while were down. Spineless
File a grievance if you think they violated or made a mistake in the furlough selection process. Quit whining and stay on topic. This was about the police killing a bad guy who was out to kill them. We don't care if you got a 1A and 2B furlough.
To Range Instructor and Box Chevy Phantom: Truer words and advice never better spoken.
My advice to all officers: Carry the largest caliber pistol you can handle.
Glock makes a compact .45 and .40 for those who have smaller hands.
They shoot well. there is a reason why Glock has gone from nothing in 1983 to now having 75% of the world police market.
Buy something other than that popgun (9mm) Practice with it and take the qualification class.
I know the department will never change the requirement, it will cost too much. Spend some of that uniform money on a .40 or .45 and protect yourself.

True 007 is rough! Came on the job in 85,and in academy met officer "cisco" who came in to talk to us! He worked in 007,and he carried 3 exposed guns + 1 strapped on his leg. We asked why all the guns he said "Kid you never know"! Then I was assigned to 007 out of academy, and was impressed with "Cisco" the jags were scared of him,and he knew that area, every building, every gang banging punk! With the way todays dept is,there can be no more "real police" as then we had real exempts who really cared nad had our backs, now we are way out gunned, undermanned, with j-fed in charge we witness the PUSSIFICATION" OF A ONCE GREAT DEPT! GOD BLESS THE CPD!!
stay safe and God Bless the CPD
FOP please DEMAND 2 man cars on
1st and 3rd watch and 2 man sector
cars on 2nd watch
5 man streets and san crews with a driver sitting in truck and CPD gets 1 man units
Good thing that you took that class , go for the soft spot, over the eye works . Good shooting brother. Its good to know you!
Good job, police!!!

What the f@#$ are you talking about?
I am not an officer but i was just wondering where is the 7th district? Is that the one near 30th and prairie?
small town cop here.
I just like to hear that all sworn went home safe.
Just wondering, do they still offer a bonus if you work 5 years in 007?? I know they had some type of financial bonus a few years ago.
...Good work officers!! Be extra careful out there!!!
be safe and ULTRA - CAUTIOUS, OFFICERS OF ENGLEWOOD, AND ALL OF CHICAGO, ESPECIALLY THE SOUTH AND WEST-SIDES. GO HOME ALIVE, WELL, AND HEALTHY, TO YOUR FAMILY AND LOVED ONES, THIS CHRISTMAS. NOTHING ON THIS JOB IS WORTH NOT HAVING THIS... BE SAFE. BE WARE OF THE FACT THAT THE DEPARTMENT DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE BEST POSSIBLE TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT TO STAY ALIVE AND SAFE, BUT THE MAYOR STEALS ALL REVENUE THAT COULD BE USED FOR THIS.. THAT SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE CITY'S ATTITUDE TOWARDS YOU, SO KEEP SAFE AT ALL TIMES, AND WATCH OUT FOR YOURSELVES AND YOUR FELLOW OFFICERS, AND FORGET PLEASING THE BEHOLDEN TO THE POLITICIANS BOSSES, JUST DO WHAT'S SAFE AND RIGHT FOR US, THE TRUE CPD BROTHERHOOD, AND OUR FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES, FORGET THE POLITICAL WHOREMONGERS, THEIR DAY WILL COME SOON ENOUGH....
Buy something other than that popgun (9mm) Practice with it and take the qualification class.
*******************
Well-placed shots are what matter whether it's a 9mm or a .50AE. While a larger caliber presents greater muzzle energy, it also gives greater recoil and reduced magazine capacity. If I had to pick a compromise cartridge that wasn't 9mm, I'd go with .357SIG, but 9mm Luger kills just the same. Use hollowpoints!
Carry a "deuce" for cryin' out loud! At least the same caliber if not same manufacturer as your primary and carry at least a full reload for it!
Carry a good, sharp, compact fighting knife and be prepared to give some dog an autopsy scar or an amputation if need be.
Unconventional hand to hand combatives... These mutts will challenge and fight... Completely, quickly and utterly destroy their ability to fight you or anyone else. whatever limb or appendage they hurl at you, own it and destroy it...
We were deeply disturbed during our academy time when it was revealed that Corp. Counsel has final say in how Policemen can defend/protect themselves/take the fight to the offender in a hands on situation. We all know Corp. Counsel never had to fight for her life in a pissy stairwell against a horde of mouth-breathers.
So be it...
Do what you must to go home to your families. No one gives a dangling shit about our safety and well being but us and our loved ones.
We sold the 9mm after observing an armed offender take 8 fairly solid hits from a 9mm... still ran and fought... did not die... had several HEALED bullet wounds from various past encounters.
This was some years ago and no doubt the quality of 9mm ammunition has improved but we trust our hide to .45 acp with bonded 200 & 230gr. +p's. The .357 with original 1935 FBI spec 158gr. is in ready reserve for "civil unrest" situations. Long guns are reserved for repelling boarders from the ark...
The way things are playing out in the liberal/trotskyite utopia of Chicago we all may end up having to repel boarders as those who want but didn't work for it decide to take by force from those who did... We are no longer a valued constituency in this town, just a captive tax base. 42 extra-short, the media and the alderthieves take extra pains to remind us of this on a daily basis...
Hey 10:07pm: I've seen our 9mm rounds fail to penetrate puffy coats and/or large, muscular men.
Carry something with a .4 in it and use the knockdown power to your advantage.
Carry extra mags if you are worried about having enough rounds in case the shit hits the fan.
If you are so worried about mag capacity, buy a Glock .45 or .40, they have just about the same capacity of our 9mm mags.

Stay of our blog TROLL! Well done Officers.
OK Englewood Ranger, I see your point. Englewood is such a nightmare you have to hustle to stay alive and there are many decent people that live there. I should have said, Shame on this administration for not giving 007 what they need. Twenty years ago the didtrict was chock full of officers, sgts, and lts. The action seems the same but the good guys have seriously dwindled. God Bless all you Englewood Rangers.

I second that thought.
All of this talk about weapon caliber...If you are still carrying a 9mm, you are not under armed...you need to purchase a couple of boxes of Winchester Ranger 124 grain +P. Or the 127 grain +P+ version. Make sure it works in your gun. Coppers required to carry 9mm issue pistols have put down many bad guys with this stuff. The new "T" version is even better and this stuff is designed for you, the peace officer of today. Use it. If you cannot find Ranger, look for the new Winchester PDX 1, as issued by the feds. Or use Speer gold dot 124 gr,+P. Hits count, misses dont. Watch the front sight and you will hit, that is how we were taught to shoot revolvers.
Always a Cop:
Once the badge goes on, it never comes off, whether they can see it, or not. It fuses to the soul through adversity, fear and adrenaline and no one who has ever worn it with pride, integrity and guts, can ever sleep through the 'call of the wild' that wafts through bedroom windows in the deep of the night.
When Cops Retire
When a good cop leaves the 'job' and retires to a better life, many are jealous, some are pleased and yet others, who may have already retired, wonder. We wonder if he knows what he is leaving behind, because we already know. We know, for example, that after a lifetime of camaraderie that few experience, it will remain as a longing for those past times. We know in the law enforcement life there is a fellowship which lasts long after the unifo rm s are hung up in the back of the closet . We know even if he throws them away, they will be on him with every step and breath that remains in his life. We also know how the very bearing of the man speaks of what he was and in his heart still is.
These are the burdens of the job. You will still look at people suspiciously, still see what others do not see or choose to ignore and always will look at the rest of the law enforcement world with a respect for what they do; only grown in a lifetime of knowing. Never think for one moment you are escaping from that life. You are only escaping the 'job' and merely being allowed to leave 'active' duty.
So what I wish for you is that whenever you ease into retirement, in your heart you never forget for one moment that 'Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called children of God,' and you are still a member of the greatest fraternity the world has ever known.
Civilian Friends vs . Police Friends
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Get upset if you're too busy to talk to them for a week.
POLICE FRIENDS: Are glad to see you after years, and will happily carry on the same conversation you were having the last time you met.
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Have never seen you cry.
POLICE FRIENDS: Have cried with you.
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Borrow your stuff for a few days then give it back.
POLICE FRIENDS: Keep your stuff so long they forget it's yours.
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Know a few things about you..
POLICE FRIE NDS: Could write a book with direct quotes from you.
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will leave you behind if that's what the crowd is doing.
POLICE FRIENDS: Will kick the crowds' ass that left you behind.
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Are for a while.
POLICE FRIENDS: Are for life.
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Have shared a few experiences. ..
POLICE FRIENDS: Have shared a lifetime of experiences no citizen could ever dream of...
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will take your drink away when they think you've had enough.
POLICE FRIENDS: Will look at you stumbling all over the place and say, 'You better drink the rest of that before you spill it!!' Then carry you home safely and put you to bed...
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will talk crap to the person who talks crap about you.
POLICE FRIENDS: Will knock them the hell out for using your name in vain.
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will ignore this.
POLICE FRIENDS: Will forward this..
There are those that think they understand. And then . . . there are cops

you guys buy too much of that gun magazine bullshit. 9 is fine, there is no such thing as "knockdown power". multiple GOOD hits with a caliber you can actually shoot and control with fast followup. its amazing when you watch all these guys that shoot twice a year, flock to the 45 or worse, the 40, and cant control the recoil worth a damn, let alone qualify or save their life. THERE IS NO MAGIC CALIBER/BULLET. if your serious, carry the damn rifle. and more than anything PRACTICE at least every other month. a 40 or 45 or even 50 isnt going to instantly stop the bad guy, ive also seen those failures. They all fail, all handguns suck. I carried the 45 for the past 12+ years,i just went back to the 9mm for aforementioned reasons, and i shoot 1-2x a month, the 9mm will usually do the job if you do yours. I carry a snubbie backup and a rifle in the trunk, if all that fails by fixed blade last ditch knife will get to know you intimately. Notice i said fixed blade, watch the videos on youtube of guys trying to deploy their folders under stress and they drop them, cut themselves, or fumble the draw taling to long to open it. I dropped carrying those as well. kabar tdi, concealable, fast to deploy, $35.00.
Who are they going to blame that on?
12/11/2009 07:13:00 AM
LOL. Are you seriously asking that?
Obamao has pretty much answered already, along with his cabal of commie apologists.
It's evil white America's fault, that's your answer.
"I am not an officer but i was just wondering where is the 7th district? Is that the one near 30th and prairie?
The one on 29th Prairie isn't any kind of police district.
Cisco recently retired and you are right he always carried 3 pistols, and more in the trunk. He was crazy as hell, THE REAL POLICE and nobody fucked with him ever!!
