Police are conducting a homicide investigation after an autopsy revealed that a 38-year-old woman was found strangled this morning in south suburban Steger, officials said.
Tashika Smith of Steger was pronounced dead at 4:19 a.m. after she was found on the 300 block of West 35th Street, according to the Will County coroner's office.
An autopsy conducted today showed that Smith died due to strangulation. The office stopped short of issuing the final manner of death pending the police investigation and the receipt of toxicology results.According to the office, Steger police are being assisted in the investigation by Chicago and Maywood police which are investigating possible related incidents. Steger police would not comment on the case.
