Spree Killer?
Suburban murder, investigation by CPD?
Police are conducting a homicide investigation after an autopsy revealed that a 38-year-old woman was found strangled this morning in south suburban Steger, officials said.
Tashika Smith of Steger was pronounced dead at 4:19 a.m. after she was found on the 300 block of West 35th Street, according to the Will County coroner's office.
An autopsy conducted today showed that Smith died due to strangulation. The office stopped short of issuing the final manner of death pending the police investigation and the receipt of toxicology results.
According to the office, Steger police are being assisted in the investigation by Chicago and Maywood police which are investigating possible related incidents. Steger police would not comment on the case.
Rumors of a few more murders in 007 or 009 attributed to this suspect and another shooting in 005. He may have been captured though. Nothing to worry about citizens! Move along.

When apprehended, will the perp be tried in Crook County?
If so, I predict "Time Considered Served" if/when he's ultimately convicted.
P.S. - What kind of CPD manpower is being allocated to this investigation? Aren't we way short on detectives/investigative-type personnel here in the big city? We've got tons of missing juveniles that need to be located!!!

I hope you are aware SCC, that a spree killer is someone who snaps, then goes on a killing rampage such as Richard Speck and Andrew Cunanon. A serial killer is one that hunts and kills people for over a long period of time, avoiding detection. If the homicides happened recently in the districts that you were saying, then it's a spree killer, if over a period of time, then a serial killer. Just wanted to make sure you were clear on the difference and use of the terms old boy.

Offender murdered ex-wife in Stregar, shot father in Maywood, then murdered ex-girlfriend in 009 with a few hours 11 DEC09. Was on the way to Homewood to shot another ex-girlfriend in Homewood. P.D. relocated her before he arrived. He was caught shooting up club in 005 45 mintues after last murder in 009.

We all know that the media doesn't care about serial killers unless the victims are white.
Spree killers get attention in the beginning, but interest fades fast after the cuffs are put on.
To all L.E. out there...this is a very bad time of year for us. Very strange dangerous things happen more around this time than any other. Practice defensive police work and don't over-expose yourself. Be safe. Blessings for all, this holiday season, and in the new year.
Richard Speck was a mass (8) murderer, not a spree killer. However, unlike Speck, most mass murderers are not motivated by sexual assault. Most serial murders also involve sexual assault.
