Another $10 Million?
- Chicago Public Schools is offering $10 million over two years to fund mentorship programs for 3,000 of the district's most at-risk students, the latest component of an anti-violence plan meant to stem shootings among city high schoolers.
The district is seeking proposals from organizations to work in 12 neighborhoods across the city, and will disburse funds based on a variety of factors including a group's expertise, capacity and ability to track data like attendance, grades and in-school behavior.
How many months without a contract now? 32? $10 million would hire a lot of cops. And that in turn, would do more to stop students from getting shot as these "community groups" would.

This comes complete with shenanigans by the City Council's Finance Committee who are about to skirt the Open Meetings Act to avoid public outrage.

CDA is paying its CEO 10% of its operating income in salary alone. CDA receives at least $2 million/year in fed funding, and is a slum landlord with many unaddressed code violations. CDA's board consists of Oliver and two reverends.

I could recall the public school could not give my kid a spelling book and suggested I pay for it, except I had already paid for the book and misc fee a month earlier. Note: those who "can't afford" the fee, are exempt. Those are the people with new SUV's and me in my 12 y/o car.
I asked why they can't give my kid a book and was told they ordered less than expected. I told the teacher abosultely not and went to the principal and voila, my kid had the speller. It's a beaurocratic and corrupt mess.

In the most reputable charities in the country, 30% of your donation is flat out stolen, 60% is used to buy things for the people who run the charity, and about 10% is actually given to the cause. In a irreputable charity, all of your donation is stolen.

Unfortunately, these high risk kids have parents that never wanted them and have taken no responsibility for them or their actions. They are truly lost.
I have worked in community based youth programs, in low-income neighborhoods, and can honestly say, they are effective for maybe 10% of the kids who already have parents who really cared about them.
For the other 90% of the kids in the program, it was babysitting deeply disturbed kids and trying to control unbelievable behavior. For this reason, I do agree that more money needs to be given to the police to deal with their violent behavior.
Until there are parent accountability laws on the books with genuine teeth, nothing will "help" these kids.
A better use of the money in my opinion, should be spent on early childhood programs, teaching all kids, and their parents about non-violence and responsibility.
Research shows us that working with parents of young children and the children themselves on dealing with anger, learning how to get along with others, using conflict mediation skills etc... really works.
The mayor and alderman don't have to account for anything they do. They are Chicago's monarchy. Alderman do not have to take mandatory furlo days. The mandatory part only refers to the lowly city workers but not aldermen and city hall top officials. If the aldermen decide to put up a show they can decide how many furlo days they take. They can also take furlo days at 1/365th the rate instead of the 1/261 the rest of the city workers take. The city council makes the rules for everyone else but changes the rules that affect them at will. No money for raises for city employees while they increase their own pay at 10%. the avg worker couldnt get a raise half that and if they asked for such the mayor would chastize them openly and vindictively. Two sets of rules. No money for paychecks or to settle contracts for first responders but money to throw at whatever project or fake rev that gets his face on tv. Still not enough money to quiet them? Then throw some more at the rev's. You can't have it both ways mayor, no you can't!
I wonder why the Board of Ed/City of Chicago is willing to spend all that money on young adults who have done nothing for society, and display anti-social behavior. Let them quit school, and not show up to classes, and make it a better learning enviroment for those who want learn and become productive members of society.

It is now 515 pm and I still have not gotten paid my ot. Talked to finance and they said they recieved many calls about it but that they do not have to pay us on time. That it might be there sooner or later, maybe. Called the Union and those asses said that they are aware of the problem and apperantly the city can pay us late without any penaltie. Asked when they are gonna pay us and they said "probably" soon. WTF. I need the money. Wife out of work, three kids in private school because school system sucks, and i dont know, I did work for the money, I would like to get paid. If I missed court I would be deviated and made to write To-Froms and take a day. City apperently does not have to pay me on time. My family now suffers and Union basically tells me to go fuck myself. Anyone else have a problem getting OT pay today?

I agree with the everyone part. But, aside from all the assholes who don't vote at all, how can you say we gave them the power to do it?
I have voted in EVERY election since 1991. This is the worst election I have seen in terms of manipulating candidates. Look at Madigan putting Macellaio in then puts two other female Irish names in to divert from Burke. In COHEN TO QUIT, SCC just ran down the probable scenario in which Madigan will put in who he wants to put in for Lt. Gov. Zalewski, Lipinski, McPier etc. I could go on and on but anyone who has been watching had to notice that it's all rigged right from the beginning. The voters have little to do with any of it. The corruption and control is so deep, it boggles the mind. All of them, Mayor, Governor, Aldermen, they have written laws and put mechanisms in place that allow them, in almost every possible scenario, to circumvent the voters. And then they claim "well that's the law" or the "statutes allow for that." And somehow they are able to say it with a straight face. They DO NOT CARE what the taxpayers think, want or care about. It's about them, and their friends, and what they want and manipulating the outcome to make sure they get it. Years ago, this shit happened, but on a much smaller scale and under the radar. Today, they are openly blatant about every way they screw us.
They do not see that government is collapsing because they control it all and they have a revenue stream that is held hostage. There needs to be a fucking revolution in this country. Enough is enough. The everyone we should be talking about is the taxpayers and how we are going to withhold our money until they all straighten out and realize that they don't get it all, they get a little. And the first thing they should start with is to suspend ALL the social welfare programs. That would take away 85% of their muscle right there. That would end all their deals and givebacks, and it would be a place to start.
