Quinn Surviving

Amazing, considering all he's failed to do and act upon. He's like the "accidental governor" but he keeps on kicking:
  • Gov. Quinn declared victory early today in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, but Comptroller Dan Hynes vowed to fight on and added another layer of uncertainty to one of the most dramatic political nail-biters in recent Illinois history.

  • Just minutes earlier at Carpenters Hall, where Hynes' post-election party was at, the three-term comptroller was still swinging. His tone was anything but conciliatory, and he refused to concede to Quinn, despite trailing the governor by 5,382 votes with all but 2 percent of the precincts counted statewide.
Hynes pulled out all the stops, but couldn't overcome what were once known as "the Machine wards" that once produced pluralities of a mind boggling nature (90% and more). The numbers weren't as staggering as when Congressman Dawson ran the wards, but 60% in a Chicago ward is enough to offset dozens of counties across the state.

Hynes isn't conceding, but it looks bad for him. The republican side of things is even tighter - a 500 vote margin. But a smart campaign might just do what Hynes couldn't - label Quinn as an incompetent tax-hiker soft on crime.

The loyal Dawson wards deliver for the machine yet again. A savvy observation by SSC. Someone in the SCC house is quite knowledgeable about Chicago politics I see.

There are still a lot of votes out there that have not been 'counted' due to 'technical issues'. The 'new' data cartridges in all four of the precincts in my SW Side polling place did not fit the consolidator/transmitter and both cartridges and transmitters had to be hand carried to 'election central' to try to get them to work. Hynes handily won each precinct. Looked like all the paper ballots would have to be run through a machine that actually worked. Come November USE THE PAPER BALLOT!

Watching Quinn last night should convince EVERYONE that it's time to go back to a Republican Governor. When he came out to declare victory, he and his 93 yr old mom could hardly be seen behind all of the REAL victors and their peoples, like Jesse White, Bobby Rush, Emil Jones etc. Those folks are licking their chops at how much MORE of our tax dollars will be funneled by Quinn right to their constituents!

I used to think you can count on the majority to keep these smucks out of office, but not anymore. People have become a bunch of clueless sheep! That is why society now is so backwards thinking. Guess you should start saving now for the 100% tax increase Quinn wants.

I think it is a travesty that people refuse to participate in our electoral process. There is NO EXCUSE for it! There are options for early and absentee voting and 13 hours of available voting on election day itself, and endless opportunities via endorsements, the internet and TV interviews to learn what each candidate stands for.

I believe the State should legislate a fine of $100, payable out of their State income tax return, for every registered voter who DOES NOT vote. Why not? It will guarantee that the "will of the people" will prevail and will help ease the State's financial burden WITHOUT raising taxes.

This is perfect. Quinn is easier to beat statewide than Hynes, especially with the Chicago wards giving Quinn luke warm support. Had Hines won, the Chicago machine would have been going balls out for him.

I cannot wait to vote for Brady. He is for concealed carry, unlike that goof Jim Ryan.

Bye-bye Quinn, you liberal, soft-on-crime, tax hiking jag!

We needed the big tax and spender, Quinn to win. Now he can continue to fuck things up until Nov and lose more votes and many of the Hynes voters will not vote for him. Did anyone see the look on Quinn's face when Jesse White made the speach and mentioned how Quinn knows raising taxes is necessary. He went from smiling, to stone faced and looking at the ground. It was GREAT! I hope they keep talking like that.

Quinn is an easier opponent. Time to wake up and vote REP for governor in the general election.

I cannot believe the LACK of turnout yesterday.

Apathetic voters? Hmmm, probably more like braindead. Would have gotten more out if they said they were handing out tickets to Jerry Springer and American Idol.

Brady is very pro-police and concealed carry, pledges no tax increase and wants term limits so a guy who only represents 100,000 citizens no longer runs the state as Speaker of the House. We need to get behind him.

What I can't stand is all these a-holes standing around at the polling places and shoving their political propaganda in your face. These parasites should not be allowed around these polling places. What I did love about the vote was all the candidates that the 19th ward scumbags supported many of them did not win. Up yours to the foot soliders of the 19th ward a revolution is amongest us.

actually, that's a good idea.

it would practically guarantee that the voters, thus compelled to vote, would not vote to reelect the incumbents.

take the number of gop voters who voted in the primary; add a conservative number of the dem voters who voted in the primary for Hines; estimate the number of registered gop voters who will be exposed to both quinn's campaign advertising and his expected activities from now until november, as well as exposed to the activities of his 'supporters', then figure in the national gop's efforts supporting the gop candidate. toss in another conservative estimate of the number of registered dem voters who've had their brain cells stimulated by the profuse bleeding coming from their pocketbooks.

doesn't look so bad now, does it?

after all, the general is the only election that puts anyone in office.

In defense of those that do not vote: Many people see politicians of both parties as self-serving crooks. Due to the harping by the way-too-left media about anyone that stands for traditional values as being too right-wing, most pols are so middle of the road that there is little discernable difference between the two.

So rather than being forced to choose between flotsam and jetsam, frick and frack, I choose the third, not on the ballot option: NOE OF THE ABOVE.

Anyone who did not like the Washington ad is stupid and that is why Quinn won.

Quinn lied and accused Hynes of ignoring complaints re: Burr Oak and as washingtpn said years ago, Quinn has been "kissing babies" so to speak as he has been preparing to become Gov by his many photo ops with veterans and the like.

At least "we pimping Rickey Hendon" finished last place.

Now to get rid of David, Rush..

Quinn supports the troops. But Quinn is first and foremost true to his progressive/marxist/communist/socialist party priciples...remember his inauguration speech where he praises communist Che Guevara, and last night he stood next to Bobby Rush-communist, Jan Shakowsky-communist, among other thugs, while making a comment on TV about the vote. Quinn is a progressive-democrat and is the enemy of all freedom/liberty loving believers in the Constitution, our Founding Fathers. Obama is the enemy in the White House and if Quinn wins the election, he will be the enemy in the Mansion.

John McCain is a Republican who, aside from supporting the troops, has sided with the progressive democrats in the White House on all issues. He is not a conservative Republican and cannot be trusted.

You will encounter switch-hitters in both parties. You must be careful to vote for the Republican candidate who has a conservative attitude on the majority of the issues that concern us all.

To attract more people to vote in primary elections, Illinois needs open primaries. Having to choose a partisan ballot containing only some of the candidates one wishes to vote for (or against, as the case may be) discourages voter participation. This will
never happen because the Crook Co. Democratic machine and
DuPage Co./downstate Republican machines would ensure such a proposal would go down to defeat.

Australia fines voters who fail to participate in the electoral process, but their election system is a lot fairer to voters.

IIRC, Nevada changed their election laws some years ago to include "none of the above" as a ballot option, rather than the spineless new Illinois system of rejecting "incomplete" ballots. Of course, if "none of the above" was a valid ballot option here, there would be a lot of vacant offices, which wouldn't be such a bad thing.

There are an awful lot of people in this state who live for entitlements and Quinn is constitutionally (with a small "c") unable to resist being the Candy Man and handing out money for "feel good" projects left and right, even if the state budget is already in the tank. And every one of those folks who live of the federal and state teat pulled the lever for Quinn.
