Anyone seen the year-to-date report lying around? We're trying to see if the ominous silence this month means something bad.

What difference does it make what the real total is.
The department plays with all the numbers and makes public what they want public.
And even if the total was 5,000 past last year... what would happen? J-Fed would be called in front of the city council for a bullshit smoke and mirrors grilling.
Pay me $300,000.00 a year and a 100 perks like J-Fed gets and I'll be the Mayor's bitch boy for a while too.
Last week I checked it was a 33 compared to 38 last year. And compared to 60 something in 2000...
Probably going through monthly "adjustment" before public disclosure.

9 less this year than last year.. 20 less than two years ago. only 11 of the 25districts in the city have a recorded homicide this year which is unheard of. Cant blame the weather on this one.. january last year and january 2008 were colder than this january. good work officers

Maybe because cease fire successfully extorted money from the city.

Sure you can blame the weather! Around 50 inches of snow? Snow on the ground since December? One of the cloudiest winters also.
All that plays a part in people's psyche. Consciously and sub-consciously.
Hard to make a get-a-way when there is snow on the ground.
Even though we don't think of these people as human, more animal like, fact is they are human and gloomy days effect everyone.

Lifesaving capabilities of the CFD and ER are saving these animals after receiving horrendous wounds.
Not too long ago they would have bled out on scene or in the back of the wagon.
Better to look at Ag Bat Handgun. Then figure in modern medicine and life expectancy from such care.

you say "not too long ago" but I thing it was a long time ago ... but your right, medicine has gotten better, but it hasn't happened in the last 5 years - unless they invented an anti-death machine in the last 2 weeks

why go back that far .. what about the early 90's ....how do you explain those high homicide rates? ... I am just not buying the medical advance as the reason ... these are acute differences .. it surely has to be due to the ULTIMATE TACTICAL WARRIOR and all his partners .... Compstat, the best stat shuffeling program available was developed in 1995 by NYPD and the homocides have been going down ever since...quite ironic!

Homicides have been going down ever since CPD started to use the Clear system.
NYPD homicide rate has continued downward ever sice Compstat was introduced. Its not that hard to figure out.
All police departments are starting to catch on leading to a nationwide crime reduction. Great for politicians.
Less police on the streets means less reports generated and less arrests which means crime has gone down to politicians
