St Baldrick's Thank You
A final thank you to everyone:
- St. Baldrick’s 2010 was a GREAT success! Thanks to every one of you that participated, volunteered, and helped get the word out, 300 brave members, family members, and friends of the CPD ranging from 16 months to 78 years old got their heads shaved. While the final tally won’t be in until all the checks and cash are posted to each participant’s web site, the preliminary numbers show we raised over $110,000!!!! This money will go directly to hospitals, research facilities, and doctors that concentrate on finding a cure for childhood cancer and tops last year’s total of $98,822.
This event could not have taken place without the many volunteers, both CPD and others who gave up their time and offered their talents to make the event such a success so thank you one and all, especially the beauticians who gave up their day to cut so many heads of hair. There’s no way to list all the people who helped out without accidentally omitting someone but I would like to especially thank Anne Zamzow who coordinated the Area 5 event and Bill Murphy and Lee Bielicki who coordinated the Area 2 event. The groups they put together at each of their locations did an outstanding job!
Thanks again SCC for helping to get the word out and to all who had a part in the success of this event. The children who suffer from this horrible disease are all a little better off today because of your efforts. I’m certain that we will be holding this event again next year so mark your calendars now for either March 11th or 18th and we’ll let you know more as the date approaches.
Until there’s a cure,
Bill O’Reilly
A lot of drafty skulls out there, just in time for the spring snowfall. But all for a good cause.

Hey Murph, with the bad week and horrible news that you had I was shocked to hear that you still had the heart to show up and do the event this year.
You got heart, that is for sure, I am sorry for your loss, but you did a great job kid!
And a great job to all the CPD who shaved their heads, what a way to help a great cause.

GREAT JOB!
Did the CPD beat the CFD this year?
Way to go job Bill, Anne, Bill and Lee!
Way to go to the over 300 sour puss heads too.
Hope you still have your winter hats available.
Great job!
Way to go CPD!
As A father with a child who had cancer (now in remission)..Always a big thank you..AB fillmore
To 12:19 a.m. Each of our respective groups do a great job every year and I hope we continue to do so and eventually won’t need to anymore.
Yes we did raise more money than CFD who now holds their event in September as a "Half Way to St. Baldrick's" event to keep it in the news. However, as pointed out affectionately by Rory who runs their event, we have more members so we'd better raise more money :-) They raised over $45,000 this past September and I’m sure will be aiming for our total this September.
Got my head shaved for the first time this year and it was a blast. Already it saves me 10 minutes by not having to put on my hair gel.
Gonna do it next year again, and hopefully I will not loose my policy group status as a hair gel wonder.

Should have had J-fed shave his head so he could look more like banjo boy from Deliverance!
"A lot of drafty skulls out there, just in time for the spring snowfall. But all for a good cause."
No shit - i' FREEZING!! But a good time was had by all. Bill, thanks for ALL you do.
"Did the CPD beat the CFD this year?"
Good question - don't know if CFD was doing it this year.. Bill, any knowledge of this?
Great event & I sure will do it again next year!!!! Anything for kids. Thank You Bill & Kate for all you do!
SCC - If you do not mind I would like to piggyback on Bill's original Post.
Saint Baldrick's Supporters-
I just wanted to extend my thanks to all of you for your time, effort and support that helped make the Chicago Police Department Area Two Saint Baldrick's Day Shave Off a great success.
I started out hosting the event three years ago in 2008 with one team, 12 heads in all, and we raised a little bit over $5000 dollars. On Friday, with all of YOUR support, we have now grown to 10 teams, 95 heads in all, and we are well on our way to $20,000 dollars with just over $14,000 already accounted for, about $3800 to be counted, and matching funds from Best Buy to still be counted down the road.
One word: AWESOME!
Our top team, for the 2nd year in a row, was the 4th District Tact Team who raised close to $7000 dollars. Way to go Joe Murtaugh for leading such a great crew. Our top gun, for the second year in a row, was Lee Bielecki with over $2000 dollars raised.
We had a couple of firsts at this years event as well. We had the first two female members of the CPD to get their heads shaved, Carole Collins and Liz Mishler. Congrats to you two very brave, beautiful bald ladies. We also had our first two black heads shaved, one from Best Buy, and one from CPD. So we broke ground and hopefully we can get more females and more black participants for next year! Start spreading the word!
Finally, I need to extend thanks, again, to all of our hard working barbers and stylists, you ALL did a GREAT job! Thanks to you all. And last but not least, I would like to help out the volunteers who helped me, especially during a tuff week for me personally, and without whom, this event never would have been so successful. So my thanks go out to Lee Bielecki, Judy Hildebrant, Dave Guzman and Alice DelRaso - without each one of you I would have been lost. And to Bill O'Reilly and Heather Kash, thank you for all of your continued support, one day we will be a top dog!
Until we find a cure,
Bill Murphy

Family of CPD
I noticed a CFD Chief, possibly retired, get scalped at the academy. Anyone know why?
Yes, you can donate to any of the three events or to any of the shavees.
Just go to the website and donate online, it is quick, safe, and easy.
Good job!
Been sleeping with my hat on the past 3 nights...but well worth it!
There are a bunch of great stories and kudos to all that participated. I have a question. Does anyone know if any of our exempt rank members participated. Just curious on the leadership factor or lack thereof out there. I'm pretty certain Jfed and Masters did not.
Nope, all Indians at the events - you cannot expect the Chiefs to show up and support anything.
Saw a couple of the bald heads today, man was it cold, that takes a set of nuts to shave your head in March, and in chicago.
Sounds like they all did a great job, and you females, well that really takes a set of nuts!
Donated today.
