- Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis is a “coward” who had “cut and run” last week when he should have responded to shots fired 45 seconds away, a retired police officer charged Monday.
More than 20 years ago, John Northen led a group of police sergeants who filed a federal lawsuit charging they were unfairly denied promotions as the result of a flawed lieutenants exam.
Now, Northen has filed a complaint with the Independent Police Review Authority, forwarded to the inspector general’s office, accusing Weis of “failing to take appropriate police action” during the news conference Friday in crime-ridden Englewood.
We state the following - the excuses provided to the Sun Times reek of unfiltered bullshit.
- The contention that the shooting was "ten minutes old" is laughable as how Weis and his entourage can be seen on a portion of tape reacting to the shooting. They should have gone at that instant toward the gunfire. Instead? "Got to run!"
- Unit were on the scene? So what? Was a slow down given? If so, then officers are supposed to safely proceed to the scene obeying all applicable traffic laws and monitoring the radio for flash messages in case a description is broadcast. After the previous night when "brazen" gangbangers fired shots in the direction of two or three dozen police officers, you'd think that the Superintendent of Police would proceed as rapidly as possible to another shooting scene that was probably 30 seconds away.
- The scene was secured? Again, that didn't matter the previous night - the bangers shot at a location where there were unmistakably a large group of police officers. And wouldn't it have made sense to just about every so-called "boss" to make an appearance at the scene of yet another shooting where upwards of 10 people had been shot the previous night? Rally the troops. Photo-op. Pretend concern for your subordinated possibly coming under fire yet again.
Time for J-FLED to go. It will lead to a bloodbath at 35th Street as scores are settled, policy groups are disbanded and returned to midnight shifts, gold stars are made and broken along with staffs, and Masters being forced to use his Harvard degree to write wills and real estate closings, but you know what? Better it be a symbolic one at HQ than a real life bloodletting on the streets due to a complete breakdown of the Department order.
Cops cannot be expected to risk their lives for an ungrateful public when their "leadership" is only looking out for themselves anyway.

The discrimination lawsuit: Was that initiated along with Sgt. John Jarvis? Your complaint alledged "race norming" of promotional test scores by the City to allow the preferential promotion of minority sergeants to the position of lieutenant. The City was then able to maintain the racial balance of lieutenants which is so crucial to Daley (and, at the time may still have been mandated by Judge Marshall). Mayor Daley does NOT want ANY allegations of racial imbalance within the "career service" ranks of the Department: To keep the U.S. Department of Justice off his back and for Daley's reelection.

1. While doing the interview you can hear sirens in the background.
2. Then you hear pops in the distance, confirmed by the twitching of his little beady eyes.
3. One of his four bodyguards whispers something in his ears.
4. A look of fear comes about his face.
5. He abruptly ends the interview with a" I got to run".
5. Doesn'T look out for the safety of the citizen or news crew by informing them that he thinks or knows that shots fired occurred a few blocks away. That the news crew for their safety should leave the immediate area o return to the safety of their vehicles.
6. Then as he is speed walking to his vehicle, he is being shielded by his bodyguards, that's right BODYGUARDS! He is not the President, Governor, Mayor, or some dignitary. He is a POLICE OFFICER first and shouldnt be whisked away like if something should happen to him the Police Department would cease to operate.
7. Check radio transmission to see if he came over the radio to check if any citizen or P.O. needed assistance.
8. Never went to the scene to see if he could get additional resources needed.
9. He wasn't wearing a bulletproof vest while working on the streets, another rule violation.
10. He needed to go back to headquarters to pick up equipment? so dire that he couldn't stop at a bona-fide shooting first?
Review the news clip again and you will see all that I have pointed out and see that his bodyguards were doing their jobs by looking out for his safety and he was too scared to override their call and respond to that scene. Read the rules and regulations and see for yourself he broke two of them. But IPRA already claims they cant investigate him, since when dont they investigate rule violation?

On the date and time in question, the R/Supt was over in ghettoland when shots rang out. R/Supt was at the time talking to a cute reporter; however, upon hearing the shots ring out, the R/SUPT instantly felt a urge to initiate a " CODE BROWN" protocol. Fearing that a public code brown deposit in the R/Supt's undergarment would bring discredit on the department, the R/SUPT immediately fled to the safety of police headquarters, where he could complete a code brown assignment in the safety and sanctity of his imperial office. The R/SUPT also had to recover his testicles from the desk of Masters.
It should be noted that a code yellow was immediately effected upon entering Englewood.
The R/SUPT will, in the future, have a suitable quantity of depends
in his immediate possession.

Often I am able to compensate for this by sensing the heat created by a firearm discharge, or following the smell of burnt powder upwind. However, on this date, those alternate methods failed me.
3. All my exempt staff will swear that I am afflicted with this one failing, which is not to be confused for cowardice. I stand by this report as being the explanation, for what some seem to mis-understand, of what was recorded by several video cameras and witnessing reporters. Not all is as it appears, and I should be given the benefit of the doubt (especially since I AM the chain of command, and investigator, on this one.)
Ok...they need to pull the tapes from oemc because someone at that press conference reported the loud reports over the zone. Having said that, why didn't they cut short the interview and investigate the shots fired? Fucking cowards!

Forgive me. I forgot to tell you guys about a recent picnic with another retired (a brother so I could "fly beneath the radar") copper in Ogden Park. Our trip was two-fold.
While all of us enjoy fine dining, our tastes are rather eclectic. We wanted to sample the cuisine of da 'wood. It was a toss-up between Catfish City, 7340 S. Racine or a tasty full slab of ribs from Lems, 315 E. 75th St. We opted for the latter with a couple of bagged cold 40 ouncers to wash 'em down. Driving into Ogden Park on Black Dr. (Throop St.), we then found a great spot on the lawn near the field house. An absolutely mouth-watering feast. Some neighborhood youths even stopped by and entertained us.
Then it was time to explore Beat 725 lying just to the west. It brought back nostalgic bittersweet memories of handling da 'wood years ago while assigned to the old Brighton Park Detective Division before I moved on to Homicide.
6601 S. Marshfield Ave. (J-FLED's cursed "gotta run press conference") and 6948 S. Paulina St. (the Reggie Myers' homicide) are both within the not-so-friendly confines of Beat 725. Earlier, unencumbered and ignoring the network of one-way streets, some of those badass Englewood Rangers clocked the half-mile distance in a best time of 45 seconds, Code 3 (lights and sirens).

Sad thing is plain and simple. JFED if first on scene wouldn't know what to do. Render aid, secure crime scene, start preliminary investigation. JFED just doesn't know because he has never been the police. I offered to be his FTO when he first got here but he refused stating he wasn't going to be around long enough. And he was going to be taking my FTO stripes from me.

While there were some satisfying moments as a sector sergeant in 025, in retrospect, I would have preferred to remain a detective for my entire career after my first 3 years in Fillmo'. I just loved the satisfaction of "catching (felons) bad guys" and protecting innocent, law-abiding citizens.
I live quite well despite just a sergeant's pension. Between fortunate investments and other legitimate income, my pension checks almost qualify as "chump change". I have never had to moonlight in my entire life.

I am an old timer, a field supervisor and I have handled hundreds of crime scenes. I have handled police involved shooting scenes, police officer shot scenes you name it and I was even there to ROPE it off before we had crime scene tape.
Now the only thing worse than having this Bozo give a bad example fleeing the scene, is for him to come in and try to control it. I have had district commanders scream at me as I try to explain what we, the real police were doing. I explain it again, they scream more. I almost have to give up when their driver says, Boss, their right. They get an astonished look, and leave.
For God's sake, somebody tell him if he comes on a scene shut the fuck up and let us do our job!

Plain and simple Roderick, the fraud of a policeman should have at least responded to the scene. No matter what spin, excuse, lie you want to come up with, all the asshole had to do was respond!
There are dogasses in every district citywide that still may have rode on that call seeing the proximity to his current location.
I am truly ashamed to wear the same button as you knowing that you get paid to protect this fucking guy and all the shit he regergitates on the rank and file!
I hope your promotion or 9-5 sat/sun d.o.g. are worth being stripped of your balls as a copper, and yes it is your job, but that's the part that makes me sickest.

Pat camden always appeared at crime scenes. Even in the fire department, media people and the commissioner appear at the scene of major fires to offer moral support and leadership. No excuse for jfed not to be there with his media people. Next time, keep your "gear" with you when you are on the street. Any "sworn" member of this department always carry a weapon.

Obviously a comment from a 35th St suckhole and future merit appointee.
Ask Bill Cozzi what he thinks about our so-called "most qualified boss." I, and thousands of others, would tend to agree with Cozzi's opinions.
I am not in the least bit ashamed of the public criticism shown to our most incompetent leader. I voted in that "no confidence" vote held at FOP Hall in March of 2009 and I proudly marched around city Hall on April 3, 2009.
I do not in the slightest bit consider this "just plain wrong." I feel weis is just plain wrong for this department and has been wrong since day one.
Deputy Chief Patterson should be the Chicago Police Superintendent. I have known him since he made Sgt. and this guy's personality, temperament, and love for this organization has not changed at all through his rise in the ranks. I have seen him in action at a scene and behind his desk trying to juggle the citizens, politicians, and reverends in 007 when he was the commander there.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Pat Camden always appeared at crime scenes and sometimes had an impossible job to do trying to put a spinn when shit happened and maybe the whole story wasn't known and wasn't good. His best moment was at the E-2 Nightclub disaster. Jesse Jackson got there early in the morning to get on TV. He walked up to Pat and tried to hand him his keys telling to park his car. Pat just looked at him and walked away.
Although the forum I run for the officer of the PPD is private since the demise of the Dome, this made news here as well.
I feel for you all.

Or this is Sgt.WB or Sgt.RH, both of whom were moved from the Superintendents office. I will watch and see the next series of promotions. Yeah we are all NOT stupid. Lets see if Lieutenant WB or RH rings a bell? Also, it has been said that Asst. Supt. Beatrice Cuello sent her main people back to Districts for the same reason and has sent her best buddy Sgt. GF to every training she could think of to pad his resume' for promotion. Watch the next promotional lists for those that use to work for one of those 2 who get promoted. Just like Lt. DM now Commander and P.O. PM now Sergeant.
