Shut Up Edgar

  • Former Republican Gov. Jim Edgar is giving a boost to Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn's proposal to raise the state income tax.

Edgar says the state can't fix its budget mess without a tax increase. The state faces a $13 billion budget deficit.

The Republican candidate for governor, state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington, is campaigning on a pledge not to raise taxes.

Hey Jim, how about shutting up and giving him a chance to relieve the unbelievable burden being put on and overtaxed, underserved and increasingly shrinking middle class? The citizens of Illinois can't afford Quinn's budget and continued mismanagement. Why not be part oft he solution instead of part of the Combine that has pretty much ruined Illinois as a location for business?

Doesn't matter. Madigan has decided there'll be no hike in taxes.

I'm all for the Feds bailing out the states......13billion is nothing to them. California and New York are worse off than us.

If they can do it for Citigroup, GM and Chrysler, they can do it for us.

Jim Edgar is a double dipping asshole. He has a job as a professor at Southern Illinois University where he does just about nothing and collects a fat pension from his time as Gov. Sure he wants a tax increase so he can keep the free money rolling in.

Think about this...

Would you rather have a minor across the board state income tax increase...OR

...start taxing pensions?

I am about to retire, so what do you think I am thinking.

I'm all for a raise in the state income tax-provided they also get rid of a few of the entitlement programs and clean house. But we all know they won't do that. So until then, fuck em!

Edgar is the only real Governor this state has had for decades. And I've been around for sixty years.

If we had more Jim Edgar's and less Mike Madigans and Richard Daleys, the State of Illinois wouldn't be in the trouble it is now in!

What's the difference if there's a tax increase now or after the election? It's gonna happen - at least Quinn is telling the truth about that.

Gov. Edgar was the first Gov. in recent history to have a budget in the BLACK!!! He left with a surplus. He teaches at U. of I.

Edgar is part of the reason that we're in this mess today. The State is a treasury to loot, and its citizen, a pocket to pick.

I'll fall out of my chair when a Democrat, or any politician, talks about a tax increase AFTER he talks about the slashes to the budget.

Get rid of all the money waisted on pet/stupid projects first (like Ceasefire and minority set asides - it's crunch time, stop with the pie in the sky crap). Cut the pork, then start trimming essentials.

When we cry UNCLE for the essentials, then you can START to talk about tax hikes. GET IT?

Hey SCC,

Sorry for being completely off topic, but did you see this website that ranks the top 25 most dangerous neighborhoods in the US? Chicago is the only one to have 4 on the list.

It's not Quinn--he's trying to solve the problem. I don't love Quinn but he is the guy left to sweep up the mess. The issues with the state were caused by Blago and Ryan (and maybe Edgar)and is what we are left to face with today.
But, I agree with 12:10 AM--Madigan will be calling the shots.

Edgar was a piece of shit as Gov and Sect of State. Edgar is the definition of go along to get along. He backs the most liberal Republicans he can find. Edgar is one of the reasons Illinois is in the mess its in.

I received an email recently that talked about voting out every incumbent no matter what party they are in. I have to say that email is dead on for Illinois. We need to vote everyone no matter the party. The few Repubs in office need to go with all the democrats. We need to start over.

Okay, as long as you understand that THEY all have to pay the money back. You planning on selling stock in Illinois? And if you are, who would be stupid enough to buy it?

No hike in taxes, except when the
seven percent cap expires and our
property taxes rise to whatever
Madigan and Berrios feels wil satisfy their "needs".
And by the way, if Berrios wins the
assessors job will he give up his
job on the Tax Appeals Board ?
If he doesn't then thats a conflict
of interest that somebody should not let him and Madigan, the de-facto governor of Illinois, get
away with and flaunt in the faces
of an already over taxed electorate. Expecially when we don't get the services for our tax
dollars that we send to Chicago,
Cook County, and the state.

I must be the only person who lives close to the state of IL (about to become a resident) who has any memory. In 1994's campaign for IL Gov, the Democrat, Dawn Clark Netsch, proposed an income tax hike. Jim Edgar opposed it viciously and won a 2nd term. Three years later, he proposes not only an income tax proposal, but the exact same one Netsch did.

The so-called squeaky clean jim Edgar, corruption in the Secretary of State's office and the Governor's office mysteriously took hold right after he left. Sure it did.

Edgar is from the same old school entrenched clout political family as Daley and Madigan and the rest of them. He comes from Edgar County for Christ sake!

Yes, his family has been at it for so long they named the county after themselves way back when. Sort of like carrying on the tradition of merry old England and the landed gentry with their royalty.

These people make me puke, corrupt lying goddamned politicians, to hell with them all.

Illinois is a great state when you look at its location and proximity to roads- railroads- farm land- transportation etc.

Now add the politicians and a great place goes right into the toilet.

Make Illinois a great state again. How? Make it a buisiness utopia starting with taxes. Make it favorable place to do business in, and watch the relocation happen!

He is NOT trying to solve the problem of huge waste, machine politics, and entitlement programs to an underclass that refuses to work to buy their votes. YOU FUCKING DUMBASS!!!!!

He is trying to raise taxes from those who work and pay them...about half the fucking country now, STUPID!!!! He is doing this so he can CONTINUE THE PROBLEM DELINEATED ABOVE!!!!!!

I always thought Jim Edgar was a well thought inteligent and honorable governor for the most part. But, when you retire, and tell everyone that you are finished with politics, and withdraw completely, even when your former party is in shambles nationally you refuse to help? Now here you are beating the drum for the Democrat party (and a retarded Governor)to raise taxes? Just go away Jim, an ex is an ex, just like an ex-wife, go away.
