Sunday Rumors

Again, these are rumors:
  • Absolutely no hiring and no promotions for 2010 and 2011. The Department will intentionally go under 10,000 cops and keep it there. Timekeepers and all other secretaries will be civilian jobs. All able-bodied inside folk are out on the street June 1. NO Sgts or Lts will have permanent inside jobs (other than district desk Sgts), all will be on the street. Lts not assigned to districts will go to any district and watch the department designates at any time (its about to go from the best job in the department to the worst). Inside people will report directly to the commander. All sick and injured officers will be sent inside or forced onto disability. The department hopes that forcing people on the street will give them an additional 500-1000 retirements.

    And my favorite:

EVERYBODY in uniform starting June 1, including dicks.
The "no hiring" part of the rumor is wrong as there are 60 recruits poised to start the Academy before the end of April. The rest of it though....

We've been getting a lot in e-mails about full duty people being launched from HQ. With the contract approval coming up shortly, the City is looking to empty the medical rolls and that means either Return to Duty or Forced Disability. There's going to be a ceiling on the number of people allowed to be on extended light/limited duty and it's going to be political. It's also has the potential to be very ugly.

got this from another post..

A buddy of mine just informed me that the family who tried to kill A 1 HGS Det. PJ have taken residence in Mt. Greenwood at 11130 S. Spaulding. The Selvie's are a cop fighting family, so 022 will have there hands full. You don't have to worry about working in 007, they are coming to you!

-008 copper

--That's not good. The Selvies are big in the 009th district around 50th & Halsted/Peoria area. Nobody ever called the po-po on them. Big time dope and guns. Be careful 022.

***************************

ok 022... no more fkn around. now its getting serious. I know people bitch and complain about burglaries in the neighborhood and all that but now this is for real.. ive dealt with the selvies for years and they are bad bad news. you will definatly have to take the fight to them. if 022 cant do it(and im not trying to cut 022 down at all..im just sayin that district guys are limited in what can actually get done) then area 2 gun teams, gang teams and GEU need to step up and target this house every single day. I know its not worth it anymore but someone has to take one for the neighborhood and do some old school policing here to get these jagoffs out... way too many coppers(including myself) live close to these mutts... Im sure your all saying "do it yourself and do the real police work"... wish I could boys.. ive got 34 years on, bad knees, bad back, and way to crotchety of an attituide to do police work... im banished away to an inside spot far far away(hey, at least I can admit it!).. we need a couple of good young coppers to go out there and kick some ass and take care of this problem before it gets out of control... and trust me, it will get out of control. ive dealt with these assholes for a long long time in 009 and in gangs south. they are not guys to toy around with.. its got to get done quick and get done right... good luck boys and girls... ive got some stapeling and pencil sharpening to do... pitiful!!

This plan probably looks good on paper to the number crunchers, but I doubt that it will do anything more than an attempt at "smoke and mirrors." Management has not invested in its manpower and is now paying the price - no or slow hires, no promotions, and no willingness to take responsibility for the disintegration of the department. It is being done with our vehicles and now with our manpower. The vehicles are being resurrected and thrown back out on the street in whatever running shape the mechanics can get the car into, all the while "rotating" the use of vehicles which will result in the cars all coming to their useful lives about the same time. Without a plan to replace either manpower or vehicles due to attrition, you will end up without vehicles, and as we are now seeing, end up without manpower. Stay tuned to see who will end up taking the hit for poor planning. You need to hire today to replace the retiree of 2012. Acknowledging the time in the training academy and the probationary time on the street, it is almost a 2 year journey. I am fearing the worst and hoping for the best.

......these rumors are causing a great deal of stress on people within the department. I understand that there will be changes in everything. That's life. But when you have legitimate hard working people trying to remain focused on doing work, whether it be arrests, search warrants, very proactive police work, etc.,the hard working people are starting to doubt the very system to continue to do the work. I am seeing this on a daily basis. Some people think it's funny, but some are really confused and making some decisions already about leaving places based on these internal movements within the department. This is really sad. I can not fathom how all this is going to play out, but truly it ain't going to be a good thing. Exactly how will putting house mouses on the street help anything? They went inside for a reason. The ones I see occasionally forced to work the street are scared little secretaries with guns. I certainly do not want one of them behind me with a drawn weapon. All having them on the street will do is tie up resources when they are constantly calling for assistance when they are forced to get out of the car. Remember the Closed Market cars? I think they made 2 arrests during their existence.

The idea is to get cops to be really forced to give up the special fund we know as uniform allowance. SCC, the department wants us to be the same in every way. That means everyone will have to have the same everything on their uniform belt. No deviations of any kind. Wait, this is no bullcrap. This is going to be our future. By this time next year, the department will have everyone cloned into their version of a CPD police officer. Out of all thr rumors listed, the only one I see as inevitable is manpower. We will never go back to 13,000. This whole clusterf@*! with manpower shortages is nothing more than a experiment by city hall and 35th to see just how many P.O's they can cut from our ranks and still function. 99units will be the norm. The district P.O's job has become more difficult and more dangerous. The case backlog in the D unit will probably be permanent because their ranks will be smaller by design also. Unless common sense prevails, we are one major catastrophy from disaster. Stay safe, watch each others backs.

The city has been emptying those rolls for years now. My old partner was one of the first. He came back after a back injury suffered on duty. He worked for an additional 10 years.

As for the limited/light duty folks. I have four words:
American with Disabilities Act.
You create light/limited duty with a restirction that it is only for IOD's the city has a big problem then.
They either have it or they don't.
Also, if you have ONE officer working an inside job that can be preformed by someone on light/limited duty then the full duty guy has to give it up!

Nope. Almost nothing in this is true. City Hall wants us to 11,500. That's it. There will be one, maybe two more recruit classes this year after the one next week. There will be no promotions in 2010, yes in 2011. The Department has asked to promote, the Hall says no.

Dicks will NOT be in uniform, most specialized units will, however. No wholesale reassignment of supervisors.

The beat assignment plan will reduce the number of beats and possibly sectors to 2 in each district, thereby reducing on paper the need for POs and Sgts. Field Lts. will be a thing of the past. Capts. will still be WCs where they are.

So relax. We're short of what we once were, and will get shorter. Get used to it. The Hall doesn't care if a PO has to handle 10 jobs instead of only 8 (or whatever ratio you choose to use).

Daley wanted Donahue to push the pension revision so that it'd be easier to get POs on disability and take them off the public rolls of light and convalescent duty, thus making the pension pick up the tab. Our dwindling pension.

Free Bill Cozzi.

When they put all the detectives in uniform after 9/11 we had the interesting social phenomena that victims were less likely to cooperate during interviews. It seemed that on a subconcious level they wanted "real detectives" in a shirt and tie. Personally, I could care less, but if this comes to pass it will be interesting to see the effect on the clear rate.

"THE CPD UNIFORM IS CHANGING COLORS AND DESIGN. BY THIS SUMMER OUR UNIFORM ALLOWANCE IS GOING TO BE USED ONE WAY OR ANOTHER TO GET A WHOLE NEW WARDDROBE."

Bullshit! Every week there is a new OPTIONAL uniform item approved. The open top mag and cuff case, the zip up and pull over sweater and the star and name plate sewn on to your outer garment and vest cover just to name a few. They don't want us to look the same.

If you were really a P/O you would already know that any changes to the prescribed uniform and/or equipment will have to be purchased by the city and given to all department members hired prior to the effective date the change goes into effect. Costing the city a ton of money they claim they don’t have. Like the flashlight, mace and turtle gear the city gave me for free.

If you wanted to spread a more believable rumor then you should have said…

The FOP has agreed to give up the annual uniform allowance in exchange for a politically connected uniform commissary just like CFD has. All equipment will be issued by the commissary and damaged uniform items can be replaced at the commissary. However all uniform items will be issued/exchanged once a year at a one for one rate of exchange (you give them one old shirt and they give you one new or slightly used one) and if there is a fluctuation in weight and uniform items need to be replaced for that reason alone the cost of the replacement uniform will be the officers responsibility. All uniform items must be returned to the commissary when a P/O resigns, retires, dies, is fired or takes a leave of absence for any reason.

All uniform allowance pay issued by the city to all city agencies is terminated effective 01 Jan 2011 saving the city an estimated 50 to 75 million dollars a year.

The new uniform will be dark navy blue in color. Your star and name tag will be sewn on all garments issued with the exception of the dress uniform.

All P/O’s will be issued two field uniforms(one short sleeve, one long sleeve), one tactical uniform, one tactical training uniform, one dress uniform, one three season filed jacket, and one tactical jacket, one pair of oxford shoes and one pair of combat boots. All leather duty gear, nylon tactical gear and riot gear with gas mask.

You have to be under 37 for federal jobs. Early 30's is fine. There are a lot of lateral opportunities out of state where you can be hired even if you're older if you're in good shape. Go check the "careers" section of officer.com or policeone.com, there are usually a lot of departments in Arizona, CA & Washington state looking for lateral hires.

I wouldn't look in the Chicago area, it seems like even the suburbs that are testing aren't actually hiring.

Daily Herald:
"If anything, there are discussions about bringing similar reforms to other budgets," Brown said, referring to police and fire pensions which were not affected by last month's changes. "I think the idea would be to embrace all of the (pension) funds."

Don't worry about it kid.

If you ever attended an FOP meeting or read your contract booklet, you would know that FOP has a (3) member "uniform and equipment advisory committee" that gives input to R & D regarding additions or deletions to the department's uniform regulations.

Anytime major changes to CPD uniform or equipment program are anticipated, they (CPD) must notify FOP advisory committee.

Lastly, Section 21-4 Uniform change or modification, states "The employer shall pay for the first issue of any change in, or modification of, the prescribed uniform announced and effective after November 15, 1981."

NOW OF COURSE THIS COULD ALL BE NULL AND VOID IF THE FOP SOLD US OUT ON THIS ISSUE, THIS TIME AROUND. WE'LL KNOW VERY SOON.

I can't imagine the city will be pushing this uniform change, due to the cost involved..UNLESS Patrick Daley and Vanenko get the contract to provide said uniforms!

Where do these idiotic rumors come from. Take the one about the whole new uniform. Nonsense, according to the contract the city has to supply the first part of any uniform change Thats why they brought in automatics, but allowed old timers to still carry thie revolvers and when the new rules in the academy are that every recruit has to purchase a Glock, but no other po has to be required to carry a Glock or the City would have to pay for the first one. They have no money for new uniforms. Go back and make yp a new rumor

The department will always hide clout heavy full duty females inside as secretaries and time keepers. Some are excellent secretaries and are a asset to a unit. But a full duty officer as a time keeper? Ridiculous. Anyone can do timekeeping. Keep the position for a light duty officer. Put full duty time keepers back on the street. Then limit the amount of full duty secretaries. There has to be some balance and common sense. I miss the days when veteran officers worked inside that offered their wisdom and advice.

Concerning 11130 Spaulding - This is a little too close too home I agree. Everyone who has a take home squad (or even if you are CFD a buggy) drive down their block on the way home. You don't have to stop...just drive down...with all of the covert/unmarked in the neighborhood that should be about 30 a day minimum...We need to pull together on this one....call on everything...Start getting 2211 back over here and out of Roseland...

There are alot of positive aspects to this rumor. The biggest one is gettin' all those inside people out on the street where they belong. All the paper pushing bullshit CAN and SHOULD be done by civilians who don't have to be paid what a sworn officer makes. If some or most of this goes through it will inevitably cause a big tsunami, but fuck it, it's just something we'll have to go through. Too many clerical jobs that should never be held by officers.

I'd think twice before I start pushing injured working policemen inside or rushing them back to the street....While there are some po's that are milking the iod-med system, MOST ARE LEGIT. I have a legit IOD and hobble around like an aged hype...what good am I going to be rushed back to the street a few weeks too soon? Policework is a contact sport. Production without injury is not realistic. There is only ONE thing a working copper truly fears...HAVING TO WORK INSIDE. We got hurt getting those numbers, so to punish us by sending us inside while we heal from our surgeries or therapy will only make us STOP WORKING in the future. I'd direct my energy to weeding out those that are taking advantage of the system before I throw the baby out with the bath water. JFED has not done this job, so has no clue that this will effect the morale of those that are still working. Gee, I busted my ass (literally), and, as a reward, I get to work the desk for a month or two? The crappiest job with the worst hours? Thanks!

Yo, new guy, it is called a "uniform" for a reason. We are all supposed to look alike. Same shirt, pants, hat, etc. The idea is that when someone approachs you they know exactly who you are by the way you look and present yourself. As much as a I liked Cline as Supe, some of the changes to the uniform he made were brutal. The main one was the ball cap. Gotta go. All the variations are ridiculous. Anyhow, if they change the uniform and require you to wear it, the department, by contract, must buy the first issue. So, while the uniform regs might be changing, they aren't going to make any new items "required" because the department won't spend the money. So quit getting your panties in a bunch. But, when you wear your uniform, have a little pride in the way you look, so you don't come off looking like a Digby security guard.

Nice try. Any Major Alterations to the Uniform that all of us are required to wear must be paid for by the city at the first issue of the Uniform. They tried that a couple of years ago and lost. That is why we have so many different types of jackets and pants.

How about the Corporation Counsel's office? Sweet gig for the politically connected. Every police officer there is sponsored by Ed Burke. They need to GO to patrol! Let the CC hire private investigators from out of their budget, instead of using CPD resources.

And, how about City Hall? A bunch of baby faced police officers that are ALL politically connected being used as security. They need to GO to patrol! Let the Hall pay for private security out of its budget, not CPD's budget.

And, police headquareters? Hire private security as hall monitors instead of using all those full-duty supervisors and police officers. They can hire private security and simultaneously save a load of dough, while returning full-duty reinforcements to patrol.

Sound ludicrous? Sound rickdiculous? Hardly. The 911 Center, the very place where radio transmissions originate for CPD and CFD, has replaced light-duty police officers with private security. They took the police officers out of there and replaced them with private security because balloon head & body Loonie-tenant Bob Weiskopf wanted them back to answer phone calls at the most important place in the world, his call back unit.

Private security at the 911 Center is a disaster waiting to happen, but if these goofs feel it is good enough for one city department, why isn't it good enough for all city departments?

All of the CPD people should be returned to CPD, including all the sworn member's on the the bloated, wasteful and ridiculously large Matyor's Detail. Let that jagoff, duh mare, hire private security to be his chauffeurs and valets. If it is good for one, it should be good for all. Bring our people, all our people, home to patrol! We need them!

Great obit on p. 26 of today's Sunday Tribune on our beloved Mike Lukas (STEPCEVICH), our host at "Mike's", 1318 W. Webster Ave. in Lincoln Park. With Father Tom presiding, there was a poignant ceremony at the cemetery with grizzled coppers's whiskey toasts to the best friend the CPD could have ever had.

"The Slammer" (2401 W. Belmont Ave.) was a great "cop bar" but "Mike's" was the nationwide ultimate. Word has it that some of our highest ranking and respected bosses (only "good" ones) made critical operational and administrative decisions that were implemented the very next day.

Coppers from all over the city, even visiting NYPD and LAPD, would pile in around the witching hour to commiserate over a few cold ones joined by scores of buxom young women. Gladys and her homemade holiday spreads of turkey with all the trimmings were mouth-watering. Living was good. I feel sad for you relatively new jacks. Gone forever.

Laughs and more laughs. Complete decompression from a night of chasing bad guys. Then there were the mutts from Cabrini-Green that actually came in for a stick-up. Fuckin' hysterical. Jingling Swiss cheese ventilation on tap. It was memorialized in "Code of Silence" with Chuck Norris and our own Dennis Farina, CPD dick turned movie actor.

They were the best of times and the worst (excluding the Stuttering Prick and the Coward) of times. The camaraderie was intense back in those most violent years.

There is one tune by Meatloaf that always reminds me of Mike's before the crack of dawn: "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights".

A far distant second choice for inside the saloon: "I Fought the Law (and the Law Won)"

God! We will miss you, Mike.

Go. I agree. Find a department that will credit your time and pension and go. If you have ten years, at least you get SOMETHING from this city, so that's a consideration. Check with the pension board.

Now, as for the response. It breaks my heart to agree with you.

I've had some really interesting jobs, and met some lifelong friends here. I often wonder what my life would have been like, if I hadn't gone to this unit or hadn't taken that assignment. I'd miss my friends? How can you miss what you never had? If we were meant to meet, we'd have met anyway? The speculation can drive you nuts.

You can't spend your life hoping it will 'get better'. And this job is not 'getting better'. And it's not going to in the near future.

Take your experience, your training, your automatic, your dog, family and car, and get the hell out of here. You will make new friends, find new experiences and be safer, saner and healthier (mentally and physically) for it.

I've been doing this for more than half my life and I used to love it. My best friend's kid is about to come on the job and I hate the idea he will be working for a department I no longer recognize. If you can leave, you should definitely go.

You are wrong, my friend. Some WERE hired only to be housecats, with their spots guaranteed by family, or politicians. Nepotism is alive and flourishing, particularly up in the area, but in many other places on the dept.

Problem is, with SO many bosses guaranteeing SO many spots, the do-nothing spots have multiplied exponentially. We now have 60% of the dept doing all the work, while the other 40% plan parties, socialize, take online classes on company time, make the lunch runs, shop, make their childcare issues everyone else's issue by coming in late and leaving early, conduct their law practices, act as informal drivers for their clout, have their 'hours changed' so their supervisors can't supervise them, work partial shifts with the blessing (read: demand) of the boss, go home and walk the dog/read the mail/watch a soap/claim they're on call so it's okay to be at home for several hours, get their nails airbrushed, compose their personal blogs, get their cars repaired, - whew! Then tell everyone how rough they have it, being a full-time law enforcement officer.

BTW, I, too, have no sympathy for those unwilling to, or mentally incapable of, working the street. They are thieves, plain and simple.

In regards to uniform, 1st issue would mean (1) pair of pants, (1) short sleeve shirt, (1) long sleeve shirt.
Now knowing how the city works with their shady contracts, I don't think this would be too hard for the city to pull off.
Daley hooks up one connected supplier with a fat contract, and the new uniforms can only be purchased from this one supplier. Now being this supplier, knowing that ~7,000-9,000 CPD are going to have to get said uniform from you only would it be far fetched this supplier "donates" all 1st issue to Daley?
Strange things happen (sadly they are the norm in Shitcago) and this isn't that far fetched.
Not hard for the uniform to be made in a way to make "cheaters" impossible to find (two-toned stripe down pant leg), trademarked styles, etc...
The sad part is to recoop the initial "donation" this supplier can charge us two or three times what we pay now for pants and shirts...
And really, how long can we go wearing only those "1st issue" items before they fail? This could be a sure win for a yet to be determined connected company with family ties to the mighty midget.

Bid Annoucement: # 085-10-011
Date: 3/31/10
Job Title : Aviation Security Officer
Vacancies: 18
Bid Applications due by Apr 14, 2010

Airports are looking to fill vacancies by bid tranfers? Open to certain unions locals.
City not hiring, just reallocating.
Does this mean the airports are short staffed? Where is all that ObamoGov$Money going that they can't even hire a few security guards (not police)? Need a runway or two? Few more bulldozers? Anyone noticing the ghosttown (not Bensenville) in Terminal 3?

I disagree with the post that says most medical users are legit. The legit ones are in the minority. Ask the slick sergeants in 017. Dr. Summeroff comes highly recommended. First you fake or exaggerate an injury, then you go to therapy for 6 months, that doesn't work so then you get an operation, another 6 months. Bunions, toes, side-stitches, nose, shoulder-woes, a bonanza of extra months off. They are the ones ruining it for the legit ones.

Section 21.4 — Uniform Change or Modification.
The Employer shall pay for the first issue of any change
in, or modification of, the prescribed uniform announced
and effective after November 15, 1981.

So much for your whole new uniform this summer

4/11/2010 01:02:00 PM

First issue means ONE new shirt, ONE pair of pants etc. ONE, not a closet full like we all have. And if you think 42 short is going to pay to buy 13,000 shirts and pants and gunbelts, well think again.

I have an idea about a new uniform for the superintendent: Just sew a 4 inch wide stripe of bright yellow dyed 80/20 material up the back of the Supe's shirts and coats. The Supe wears that yellow streak until we get one who has proven himself to be someone we can respect.

4/11/2010 01:00:00

A real police officer would hate working inside. It is embarassing that we hide so many full duty PO's at inside jobs. I could understand that some jobs require a special skill but secretaries and time keepers? A scam for clouted officers.

I hope this is true. I have come across way too many "officers" who will tell you flat out to your face they are on this job to pay for their education and then pulling out. While they do this, they hide inside and are desk bitches. Pathetic.

And as an officer who loves working the streets, does this mean IAD will get off their ass and let me back? I have been rotting away down at call-back for over 2 years now with no charges or anything! It is getting old and starting to make me a little bitter. They better do it soon or I may be one of those who just don't care anymore and want to work a desk.

4/11/2010 10:30:00 AM
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Many of us do not have criminal charges down there but "they" stripped us and want to justify the decision and embarrass us while keeping us off the street....MAN I have seen some medical ABUSE down there.....

These IOD/Medical abusers there would make ANY of you working coppers SICK to know that these "coppers" are obvious problems!

Regardless there are some real medical needs down there but there are also many not so old "my back hurts" types and "I have NO COMP.TIME so I hit the medical abusers" that constantly abuse!

Some of these coppers wouldn't even be able to hold $5.00 security jobs nor work as hotel clerks in ROSEMONT!

Mike's bar was great for cops to go and unwind. It was a no-frills place, but he was a gentleman who made you feel welcome. I started going there in the 80's. It was close to the tracks so you would think the place would stay the same, but the development around there and the yuppie population moving in changed it for Mike's. RIP.

got this from another post..

-008 copper

I don't know if this is true, as my several trips down the block at all times of day have not revealed any activity and I don't have time to sit on the house. That being said, let me say this. If you see anything that might be suspicious, DIAL 911!! Keep 2211 on our side of the tracks. And when I meet the jackasses with their pants at their knees, I always make a remark, which has caused them to stop and give me "the look". Just in case they were wondering, I tell them that "Yes, I was talking to you". I have had it, the gangbanging bullshit will NOT be accepted or ignored. I will NOT tolerate this crap in my own neighborhood. It's bad enough to see the oxygen stealing, society leaches at work. It is our responsibility to make this is a hostile environment, and if someone doesn't like it, move. I am granted by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America the right to tell them to go (*&^ themselves. And let's face it, the gangbangers are afraid of white people who act a little crazed anyway, and if you are on the CPD, you ARE crazed.

Sorry, but I got on a soapbox.

Valiant effort, officer! I do commend the fact that you are one of the few still doing “Pro-active” police work! HOWEVER, a word of caution: You gotta be fucking NUTS to still be doing “Pro-active” police work! Its gonna get stuck in your ass unless you have a phone-call to save you! Its going to get you CR’s, which puts you smack in the middle of a witch-hunt by IRPA (who have never been and hate the POLICE) or IAD (Where the majority have never been and don’t want to be the POLICE). You are at an exponentially greater risk of getting stressed out over bullshit, suspended for bullshit, sued for bullshit or fired for bullshit.

Want to go to a unit? Too many CR’s kid, come back in a few years after this shit goes away. Want that merit promotion? Too many CR’s kid, come back in a few years after this shit goes away. I know the CR’s are bullshit, you know the CR’s are bullshit… but it’s an excuse to fuck with you! And after you get enough of those CR’s (Even if they are bullshit), you become a liability for the bosses.

As soon as you figure out the sad, but true fact that NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ABOUT YOU with the exception of your partner (hopefully), your Sgt (If they aren’t trying to be a LT) and at the absolute most, your LT (If they aren’t trying to be a Cdr). Keep kicking ass and taking names! All of that great police work, numbers, heads, guns… that gets someone else promoted, NOT YOU! “OOOOOHHHH LOOK A RIBBON”! That ribbon you got for the great homicide, armed robbery, burglary pattern… the one you did ACTUAL POLICE WORK for gets sullied some when some political hack gets the same ribbon for a “Fly Dumping” arrest. The more you give to this department, the department will try to take even more!

Don’t believe me? If they did give a fuck about you, me or anyone else here, the Department wouldn’t lie to you about 13,500 Sworn on the street; the Dept would have more than 9,500 Sworn out there. The Dept wouldn’t lie to you and say GPS and Cameras are “For YOUR protection”. The Dept would have its contract settled on time. The Dept would care more about how many arrests you’ve made than how much revenue you generated or how much court time/ over time they have to pay you. Your boss would be competent vs. a political hack. You are nothing more than a number, a warm ass in a seat…. And they aren’t “Rumors”… think of them more as individual truths from Officers who have done the same thing you are doing, and have gotten burned.

Your ONLY reward for doing “Pro-Active Police Work” is:

#1) Your personal satisfaction.

#2) Acknowledgement from others around you that you consider your peers (A.K.A. The Real Police).

And every once and a while, when you do get a true “Bad Guy”, I mean one that will go out and do harm to some “Legit”, or honest Citizen, and you get to put them in a well deserved cage for a long time… that note from the CCSAO that lets you know he just got 15, 20, 20 years in Prison… that to gives you some slight satisfaction.

Outside of that, expect to get shit on and fucked with. Enjoy your rewarding career with the Chicago Police Department, and remember; “Earned, not given” (well, ok, for $310K a year for 3 years). Call your mother, she still loves and cares about you. Stay safe and try to have fun!

Check out personal cars going home on days while at work.

You are a troll, if you don't know the facts SHUT-UP. 75% or 80% is bullcrap! Nobody gets 75 or 80 %. When you get awarded disability it's 75% of your current salary without raises until your 8th year in Duty Disability and then your only brought up to 60% of what your current salary. And it's not a stipen you fool, it's $100 a month for each kid, you can't buy a pair of tennis shoes for a kid with $100. Social security give about $700-$900 a month for kids. As a civilian time keeper, there are good and bad sworn time keepers. I have seen sworn time keepers make a complete mess of the books. It is a important job but can we afford the luxury of a full duty officer inside to keep time? Some units have more than one officer keeping time. That is a luxury we can no longer afford. Sorry to say but you need to consider working a beat car. Use a light duty officer inside or a civilian.

Will Daley and Burke's 30 bodyguard, lickspittles have to be in uniform?

4/11/2010 12:08:00 AM

More than 30,and the tresurer also has a huge D-3 sgts pay and generous overtime detail also! Burkes is the best 2 on 3 OFF rotation, the tresurer 2 on 2 off, daley 1 on 1 off! And 2 commanders including "fat sammy"!

As far as the first issue comment, yes if they change the uniform, then it's a first issue. However, if they simply change the order and put us all BACK into only one approved uniform then there is no first issue as we are already supposed to have it. I for one wouldn't mind seeing this as we now have a "wear whatever the hell you want" department. I remember the days when there were NO optional uniforms. That was a professional looking department, not the rag tag assortment of hair gels that arrive on scene now.

That's not true. Just because something has been approved already doesn't mean it is a mandatory item ex: the leather coat. The only things that are mandatory as coats are the reefer and the blouse.

What's with all the bodyguards for Daley, Burke, treasurer, etc. With the low numbers in cops and the constant bitching about OT, they should be brought back to their units, districts, etc. Let the big wigs hire armed security guards. C'mon, they can hire some alderman's connected firm, that's how they do business, right? Why isn't the media addressing this issue.

The media should be aware that management doesn't care about the investigative integrity of a case, it's all about the money. They'll send a dic home and put another dic on a breaking case even tho he/she doesn't have a clue about the investigation, these manuevers can be catastrophic. But the "armed bodyguards" make the big bucks and it's OK because they are valeting, delivering, shopping, ooops, I mean guarding the political honchos. The people who lose out are the victims of the crimes, you know, the taxpayers. Anyone listening?????

If someone is truly sick or injured, there isn't one of us who would deny them the benefits of our medical system. It's the P.O.S. that shamelessly milk every opportunity for maximum sel-benefit that piss me off. They could give a rat's ass that other people can't have time-due or work dangerously short while they languish on the "ambulatory" medical roll. One "blond" sergeant in 019 actually lost her passport at the airport while enroute to Mexico. She was ambulatory all right.

It only makes sense with the manpower crisis we're in.

We are all lucky to have a secure job in these times. You are getting paid while you are injured, and as long as you can hobble (as you phrased it), you can answer phones and make reports while nursing your sore bum instead of watching ESPN at home. Unappealing, but sensible.

By doing that, full-duty officers can fill the beat cars.

I do believe in rewarding working officers, though, and I don't blame you for not wanting to work inside.

Please be safe, get well soon, and know that most of us appreciate your hard work.

UNIFORM CHANGES

According to the new lieutenants and captains contract that they agreed on:

* The uniform allowance STAYS THE SAME.

* The department will issue "vouchers" for necessary uniform items.

The FOP and sergeants union have also agreed to this item in contract negotiations.

As we all know, the department MUST give us the "first issue" on any mandatory uniform or equipment items.
All it will mean now is that the department will give every member a voucher for a new item that it wishes to change.

HOWEVER, I don't see the department coming up with any money for such a change unless it is from a federal grant . .
AKA: OBAMA communist program cash.

No camaraderie, no closeness with your co-workers, most PO's out for themselves, lot's of long faces all over, bosses are hated, disliked, or at best, simply mistrusted.

I'll agree that a shirt and tie defintely provides some degree of importance, which is why most salesmen still wear them today.

If a dick has to go and tell someone that a family member is dead or tell a witness that they must tell what they know about a crime, a shirt and tie can only help.

But, I disagree that jeans and a t-shirt give a copper the "street cred" he needs to do his job. These mopes are reacting more to their experiences that cops in plain clothes tend to be more agressive than uniformed cops. But, in reality these thugs react more to the cop than what that cop is wearing.

The jeans and t-shirts are doing more harm than good. So many cops on this department wear jeans and t-shirts that it makes the department look unprofessional to the average citizen. Then, when these citizens hear ghetto lies that the police are acting unprofessional, they believe what they are hearing because it agrees with what they are seeing.

Perhaps it is a little extreme in the above circumstance however I applaud the man for thinking "outside the box" and using his brains to elicit the statement(s) which would exonerate a police officer. Unorthodox, perhaps, but clever.
BTW, it is true about citizens' response to the uniform. Having worked in uniform and in civilian dress, I can tell you that people cannot see past the uniform and you cannot gain their confidence. In my opinion, it is absolutely necessary to properly interview someone in order to get results. The use of psychological tactics in order to get a suspect to open up and talk cannot be over-rated, even something so simple as dressing differently.
