Homicides Up 4%
Shortshanks and Weis continue to play with the numbers, but the one they can't seem to fudge is the number of dead people:
- Chicago's homicides are up nearly 4 percent compared with last year, Chicago police Superintendent Jody Weis said today.
While overall crime has dropped nearly 6 percent in Chicago, homicides have increased 3.8 percent, according to crime trends through the end of May. There were 164 homicides between January and May, six more than last year during the same time.
"Homicides continue to challenge us," Weis said
Amazingly, J-Feld doesn't once mention his recent innovation of "innies" versus "outies." Rather, he concentrates on blaming anything or everything except what ought to be blamed:
Weis asked parents to make sure their children comply with curfew laws as the summer approaches. In May alone, there were more than 1,600 curfew violations in the city, Weis said. Children younger than 17 are supposed to be indoors by 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends.
"Police shouldn't have to do the job of parents," he said. "Please, this summer, know where your kids are."
When the most influential person in a child's life decides not to do their job, you kind of run into a situation like the one here in Chicago. We can only imagine J-Fled's head is still spinning that he even accepted this job not knowing what the hell goes on at the local level of law enforcement away from the cushy federal offices.

What has gone wrong ? Back in 1974 the Homicide clear rate was 90 percent, the clear rate for homicides is around 35 percent today. It is a known fact that it is safer to walk the streets of Baghdad than parts of Chicago. How come J-Fled, you the expert. What happened to the clear rate of 90 percent in 1974. Tweet, tweet, the little birdies at Fledquarters are chirping. It seem the 'great 4 & 2' schedule was put in place for reasons other than our happiness.
The "overlap" was a ruse and the endgame is to extend 2nd and 3rd Watches and get rid of 1st Watch. This mean 2nd Watch starts at 5:00 a.m. and has 2 or more roll call which will extend 2nd Watch until 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.. The new 3rd Watch will end at 2:00 to 4:00 a.m.. The idea is to have just a few early morning hours to be held by a few P.O.s, SGTS. and either a Field Lt., or worse, and Area Lt.. That's part of the questions the survey is going to answer.
For you 'who cares' guys: bottom line is they have lied. They have drastically reduced manpower and downsized the Department. It's not temporary and they are playing with your lives. We can't protect ourselves, much less the citizens we are sworn to protect.
Who is the Judas Iscariot who is heading this evisceration of the thin blue line? If you are reading this Downtown, ask a few real P.O.s. This is crazy and will not work no matter how many callback initiatives you implement.

If there's nothing in it for me, I'm not doing it. Until I can go to court and make 3 hours for writing a piece of paper that makes nary a difference, it ain't gonna happen. You can take this part of the magical CPD "index" and shove it up your ass to keep parkers, contact cards and truancies from getting lonely. The majority of curfews brought home wind up running the streets minutes after the "adult" at home signs for them and the squad car drives off.
About the only portion of what Weis said that makes sense is "police shouldn't have to do the job of parents". Too bad he's so out of touch with the way in which the parents of chronic curfew violators raise their kids to see that his statement will fall on deaf ears. Hey, Jody...you can't reason with animals.

Homicides must be up 300% on the south side because they're down at least 50% in area five, and area 3 never really mattered in that tally.
Caught this story on channel 7 just before the Hawks game the other night. The story runs for a whole minute, touting about the reduction of crime across the board and how safe this city is, blah, blah. Then, as the piece concludes: Homicides in the city increased by 4 percent.
Thank God for other media outlets like blogs. At least if you have to sift through bullshit here, it is mildly entertaining.
