Motor Maintenance Scandal?

This is popping up in the comments:
  • about 6pm tonight feds went to a/1 motor maintanance and took bunch of files with a search warrant.. no idea what is going on but about 7 boxes of files were taken from the office. When we went there to swap out a car all the workers/mechanics were outside and said that the feds were searching the place and they couldnt go back in until they were done. got a good look at the guys and they wre clearly feds. anyone else have any info about this???
Is this part of an on-going Fleet investigation? Fleet (and the Department of Transportation) have been hotbeds of Outfit influence for years. John Kass wrote many an article on the "Department of Tony" as he pointed a spotlight at corruption and pistol-carrying connected individuals.

Seeing as how the Department hasn't run it's own garages in a few years, we'd hope this isn't another brewing hit on the police. And just today Shortshanks named a new head of the Department of Transportation, so we wonder if he got another of his patented "heads up" calls from Washington.

This is a regular cycle. They used to have cops in the garages to keep things on the level. Nothing is missing, everything is fine, take the cops out.....then the shit is missing, so put the cops back....everything fine, take them out...back and forth back and forth.

Cops coming back now?

Word is that TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS have been overcharged by the bodyshops contracted by Fleet Maintenance to do the body work on smashed up squad cars...

And kickbacks and gifts traveled all the way back to each of the MMD areas... Not just Area 1!

I hope it is a big scandal, election time is coming. Everything that possibly could embarrass 42 short needs maximum publicity.

Maybe they are looking into the scandal from a few years back. Instead of putting our 50-60 K miles into the "pool", they were sold off as scrap for a hundred dollars. Wonder who pocketed what from that one? Does anyone really wonder why we have no cars?

They are forever downing any car I bring if for grease and oil, sometimes for brakes on back to back oil changes on the same car. Who is the guy behind the guy who sells the pads??

Well Mr. Pacardi it looks like your time has come. Hopefully, you will be making license plates for 45 cents per hour while in the Federal Pen, I am sure you will go in a tight end and come out a wide receiver. Remember, it was Pacardi who took over the fleet when shortshanks took a perfectly above board operation and turned it over to the incompetents at fleet. The police had cut off doing business with the Polock Bodyshop due to the poor quality of work but wise guy Picardi got in bed with John the Polock and shoddy workmanship was the name of the game plus lining his own pockets in the process. But Picardi is rewarded by makng him an exempt in the CPD, what next he will be selling evidence and steeling the dope for himself.

Maybe they're trying to figure out why it takes 3 days, at best, to get an oil & lube job on a friggin' Crown Vic, when Jiffy Lube could do it in 30 minutes. Why the city doesn't contract with shops for oil changes, like they do for car washes, should be the focus of an investigation.

When the "police" ran the garages there was a salvage program within EMMD. That program was designed to take wrecked or worn out vehicles and remove all usable parts and warehouse those parts to be used another day. For example: Lets say that a relatively new Crown Vic/PI was hit from the rear. EMMD would remove the motor, transmission, front clip, all doors, all glass, dashboard, full interior, emergency equipment, docking station, etc from the wrecked car and warehouse the parts to be used in the future. The skeleton would then be taken to the police auto pound on 83rd. street just east of Halsted where it would eventually be auctioned off for scrape. When Fleet took over the police fleet the first thing that they did was to eliminate the salvage program and discard all the parts that were in the warehouse. So now instead of sending the body shops salvage parts from the warehoused stock, the body parts had to be puchased from the body shops. Instead of swinging a worn out motor and transmission out of a car and replacing them with a motor or transmission from the warehoused parts, fleet bought new from NAPA. Oh, and seeing as under fleet there were no longer any skeletons to be auctioned off as scrape at the police auto pound, whole cars were sold for pennies to North Shore towing in Evanston. Follow the money and the story will be told. The city can't say that it wasn't warned!

When the "Police" ran the garages there was a system of quality control over vendor body work. When a car was returned to any CPD/EMMD garage after having body work done at a vendor the car was not accepted or put back into service until that car was inspected by the third watch machinist foreman who went over the estimate line for line, inspected the quality of the repair work and either accepted or rejected the vehicle. When Fleet took over the CPD fleet of vehicles this quality control system was done away with and the cars were just arbitrarily returned to service with no inspection to speak of. Follow the money and get the story. The city can't say it wasn't warned!

On another topic in EMMD what ever happened to the parctice of warrantee recovery form for and chevy. When the police ran the garage this program returned in excess of $200,000 annually, when fleet took over the program was discontinued, becaue no one in the rest of fleet ever thought of such a program, they did not want the embarrassment of being shown as the fools they are. After all Picardi came off the back of the Garbage Truck what can you expect from that dummy. Remember Shortshanks if a "good Manager" Bring back the police to manage the POLICE FLEET, it is unlike any other part of the city fleet and deserves to be seperate and run by people who are concerned with then health and safety of the working police officer.

I was told by a Service Writer at an Area Garage tht NAPA is the biggest scam around. lets say taht you call the R guy and he responds and your battey is dead and he swaps itout. He takes the battery back to NAPA who in turn charges it and then sells it back to the city as a new battery at full price. Then whenyoubring in a tire for a nail/screw, napa will repair it and sell it back othe city as a new tire. FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL FEDS. There was a time when MMD did a great job. Now that fleet and "Pickle in my butt Picardi" is incahrg te cars have never been in worse shape and turn around time is unheard of. There are very few pool cars left at any area.
oh by the way. MASTERS MASTER MASTERS.

That's strange because DS Shear runs the fleet for the pd right out of his office. I read that it was now being moved to general support. That's still under DS Shear and run by the new exempt Piccardi. Does that mean that they are under investigation?

That's DS Shear who retired as the Police and came back as a civilian so we can pay him twice for doing the same job. The same arrogant DS Shear that nobody can stand? When will the taxpayers get a brake?

The fact of the matter is that motor maintenance was run into the ground by Lover Boy Picardi and his lap dog Glenn Tatara. Period end of story and nobody can deny it!

The feds are also looking at when fleet took over both the fire dept and aviation maint. At O'Hare, tons of parts were trucked out to unknown places, that shoddy NAPA second rate parts were brought in.
The maint people were told to shut up or else thay loose their jobs.

Wait until you buy your new city stickers and try to put them onto your windshield, guess what, THEY DON"T STICK", that's right, there is no glue on them, another giant FUCK UP, the company that made them apparently has no quality control and the city did not inspect the finished product except for checking on the artwork, MY unmarked car gets regular plates and sticker and Fleet just put my sticker on and it won't stick, then how are the going to stay on the cars ?
