Running for FOP Spots

As a commentator was kind enough to point out:
  • A note to CPD Readers, anyone who wants to run for FOP Office next year MUST Attend at least 5 meetings in the previous year to be eligible to run.

    Per FOP Bylaws & Regulations as follows;

The elected Officers of the Lodge shall consist of a President, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vice Presidents, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, three (3) Sergeants-at-Arms, and seventeen (17) Trustees.

The term of office for elected officers of Lodge No. 7 shall be three (3) years.

The duly elected officers of the Lodge and elected/appointed unit representatives by virtue of their office shall be delegates to the State and National Conference.
Start attending meetings if you want to run. See you there!

As opposed to voting for some schmuck who went to ten meetings like we have now? How's that working out for you Einstein? You're a fucking idiot.

Get involved and maybe you can lead us. Unless you're one of those morons that sits in the back of the bus and just moans as you get ass-fucked year after year. I guess those are moans of pleasure and you actually enjoy it.

The funny thing about the FLOP is the only time they “defended” any member of the CPD by “speaking up” is the other week about Richie and his website. That is the way to go FLOP. Don’t speak up for the due paying P.O.’s out there doing the job…

Never vote for a future retiree. Vote for someone who has to live with the contract obtained and won't be going back to a specialized unit with a car.

We keep voting these future retirees and we get what we get...Guys who retire when they fall in disfavor or obtain a bad contract.

We only have ourselves to blame for voting in KMA's or near KMA's because they tell the membership to KMA (or tell us nothing at all because they are counting down the days).

how about getting a "union" hall that seats more than 200 people!

I've been there over 45 times and every time there is not enough room, so how about behaving like a union and showing the members that you actually want them to show up and be involved.

My point was to alert the membership of the requirements to be eligible to run for office,
(minimum of 5 meetings out of the last 10 THIS year)!

You cannot nominate people without those required numbers.

And judging by the regular attendance at our meetings, few of the 9,000 plus officers and detectives have the required number of meetings, Kapeesh?

p.s. This was not SCC's idea, I requested that the thread be posted so dipshits that don't read the contract or by-laws pull their heads out of their asses and attempt to better the FOP!

p.p.s. Thank you SCC, you tried!

Old Wheel Gunner.

Yah, OK. Went to a meeting once, (in my 20 years) WHAT A JOKE!!!!. All the retirees bitching and moaning about who knows what, and nothing else happened.

Just like J-Fed, they WON'T answer the hard questions. Go to all the meetings you want, drink all their beer...

Despite the ridiculously low requirement of 5 meetings to be eligible to run for FOP office, there are only about maybe 400 that qualify. Out of 9,000.

And you wonder why the FOP is impotent...

"I requested that the thread be posted so dipshits that don't read the contract or by-laws pull their heads out of their asses and attempt to better the FOP!"

But it's so much easier to hide behind the keyboard and bitch!

Why would I actually want to get involved?

I'm too lazy to vote in the general elections, let alone get off my ass and run for office myself!

Hell, I won't even go to an FOP meeting!

Now what is it I was bitching about?

"Mike Shields for F.O.P. President". He has done more in 1 year to stick up for Officer's and reveal the corruption in City Hall as our pension fund Trustee then Mark Donahue and Greg Bella have done in 8 years as our F.O.P. union heads. Greg Bella equals sheep. He has done a great job running our union into the ground. As one of Chicago's largest organized labor union's with many unions to follow our contract it is disgusting the contract Mark and Greg negotiated and they blame the City. Ask any Officer on the street about our contract and see what they think? Bye bye Mark, and Greg Bella good luck winning with your track record.

Why do we need 27 FOP Reps. on the Board to represent 16,000 members? The Chicago City Council has 50 Aldermen to represent approx. 2.7 million people and the vast amount of FOP members think the Council is bloated. Give me a break FOP! The size of the FOP Bd. is outrageous and a complete waste of members' monies. It is just a cash grab by the Union hierarchy. Everyone knows the FOP is not a democracy.

Approx 30% of the active members voted in the last FOP election. Stand up and at least vote regardless of a candidate, or team you individually endorse. The teachers' union had approx. 21,000 members vote of 32,000. They had over 66% vote.

That's because citywide gave the officers nothing to want to get out and vote for them.

We are all future retiree. What would you suggest, vote only for someone who dies in office? Resigns but doesn't retire? Someone who never ages? How do we find those future non-retirees?

No clout? Then run for a union office. Once elected you don't have to answer to anyone, you get paid well and don't have to do anything.
