Thank Goodness
Deficits topping a trillion dollars a year for two years running now, but the Congress finds time for this crap:
The U.S. Senate voted unanimously late Wednesday to name a post office near Wrigley Field after the late folk singer and Cubs fan Steve Goodman.
A Chicago native, the Grammy-winning Goodman died at age 36 in 1984 and is known for, among other things, having written the Cubs-themed songs "Go, Cubs, Go," which fans sing at Wrigley Field after every Cub victory, and "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request."
"The Lincoln Park Pirates" was a much less annoying tune.
Now how about un-screwing up the country?
Now how about un-screwing up the country?

Off topic: Why does Daley find it necessary to give the same hugely negative, depressing lecture to new graduates of the Police Academy, over and over again?
Why, on the proudest day of their short careers, does he threaten them with firing and jail should they stray? Why does he suck the joy from their hearts?
I remember what a downer it was when he went into the same diatribe at my promotion ceremony. We all looked around and asked each other what we had done to deserve that. He's a charmer, just a real people-person.
Whoa! Where'd that come from, SCC?
We know you're not a Cubs fan, but wow. Would it rate such a negative attitude if they passed a resolution to name it after "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and it was on 35th Street?
I can see a highly negative reaction when the ghetto rats want to name a street in "honor" of Fred Hampton or something, but the naming of this post office is pretty harmless, and not really a financial burden on the economy.
Besides, if you think that that august body, consisting of the likes of Bobby Rush, Luis Guttierez & Co. is capable of "Un-screwing up the country", your brain must be on vacation!
You don't expect a liberal democrat to do something useful, now do you?
It's funny, these fools have been in charge of congress and the white house for less than 2 years and they float a new tax every week that we will pay. cigarettes, make em pay more. Liquor, up the ante on the taxes. The soft drink tax is on the way as well as a tax on fast food because we're too damn fat, so pay the tax, they got money to redistribute. Value added tax is in the works, along with upping the percentage you pay for social security sn then they will up the retirement age. Oh, I see big oil is making money, lets tax the hell out of them! 3 cheers from the nit wits that vote democratic, make em pay more, punish them! Hey stupid, when the city raises property taxes, water bills and the insurance company raises the rates on your landlords building, he pays, right? Yes he does and he gets the money by raising your rent. You sure showed him! Now back to the oil companies. Companies don't pay taxes, period. Consumers pay them. When the government raises the taxes on them, they pass the extra cost of doing business on to the person that buys the goods. Last time I checked, that was us.
The cost of living in this damn city and county is very high and about to go higher. The state is near bankrupt, the politicians won't stop giving away money, so the taxes will continue to go up. And the poor slobs that have a job are the ones that will pay. Not to mention that the federal tax rates are going up January 1. Indiana and Florida look better all the time.
You democrats, just keep on doing what you're doing because conservatives are slowly leaving this hole and you will find it easier and easier to elect more democrats. The problem is, people who work, won't stay here forever. Who will you tax to give all that free stuff to? Businesses are moving and so are the working people. We might hang out until we retire, but we leave eventually. Chicago ain't that special that we want to live here and divert over half of our earnings to the government. How free are you when you have to work from January until July of each year to pay taxes? Home of the free, right? Not here anymore.
I guess I should consider myself lucky that he didn't show up at my graduation ceremony.
Why didn't they boo him off the stage?

To the new rookies, Welcome Aboard from an Old Timer. I wish you well and hope you have a safe, healthy and happy career.
You will be around a lot longer than that asshole and I pray better days will be coming.
So stay safe, watch out for yourselves and your partners. Learn to listen to good advise and keep your weapons well oiled and loaded.
Register and Vote, we need to get rid of that egomaniacal prick and whoever he picks to follow him.
Quiggly is a liberal douche bag. He is up in Nov. No more
He had a little more to go with yesterday. He blasted the Supreme court for holding up what all of us take an oath to protect, our constitution. He is so bitter about the whole "rights" thing, that he cant stop embarrasing himself and the city with his incoherent blathering. It was nice ceremony though. If only they had a big hook to yank him at his 2 minute mark. The new guys all asked, "What was that all about?" I just told them "Welcome to our world."
"Why does Daley find it necessary to give the same hugely negative, depressing lecture to new graduates of the Police Academy, over and over again?"
Because it's not about those being honored, it's all about Hizzoner.
He can't figure out why cops do bad things that embarass HIM.
It's all about HIM.
There ain't enough room in these parts for you and his small stature & big ego.
Don't forget Quigley also brought forth a resolution honoring the Blackhawks a couple of weeks ago.
It passed although not unanimously.
I know you're "into" the Hawks, Detective, and that's all good.
Meanwhile we're dealing with:
TWO wars.
An economy that's in the toilet.
A fucking DISASTER in the Gulf.
Throw this fuck out...what a God Damned slug.
FUCK YOU, Quigley.
When the democrats took over congress the national debt was in the neighborhood of $200 billion. The media and the democrats ranted and raved about out of control spending by republicans. Now, less than five years of democrat leadership has the debt 500% higher and rising with barely a peep from the media. Hope and change.
to 2:02am: At least you weren't called underwear like we were on Day 1 at the Academy by Harold Washington. He called us the "Fruit of the Loom"
But, I'll hand him this---Harold was a charismatic speaker, he could really hold a room.
Does Daley even show up at the Academy during any point of training?
A Chicago native, the Grammy-winning Goodman died at age 36 in 1984 and is known for, among other things, having written the Cubs-themed songs "Go, Cubs, Go," which fans sing at Wrigley Field after every Cub victory,
===================================
I really don't know if I have ever heard this song played before. It must not be to popular of a song? I think I hear Auld Lang Syne played more.
CUBS,J-FLED & MASTERS,MASTERS,MASTERS ALL SUCK
Im a lifelong Cub fan, and I cant stand that fucking song.
That is why we must get out and vote. Vote everyone out. The den of thieves think they can not be touched and are laying low until after the elections.
Well....
I suppose they had to name it for somebody, so why not.
What's the big deal, would it have been better to call it Post Office Zip Code 60613.
P.S. Be good to your Letter Carrier, learn his or her name, a little chat that let's 'em know who belongs at your home. An extra pair of eyes in your neighborhood is a good thing. On a hot day, if you meet him at the door with a chilled bottle of water, you will make a valuble friend.
With over three hundred sponsors or co sponsors, to repeal a bill set in motion by a man convected of theft, (Dan Rostenkowski)?, to repeal the Social Security bill aimed at Police, Fireman and teacher who receive government pension.
This bill goes into committee and they find time to pass this garbage.
Our house and Senate people have come back to their Police, Firemen, Teacher and said to them, I, I, I, co-sponsored your bill took bad I will never vote on it.
Sgt. Ralph (retired)
Daley keeps giving the same speech over and over because his press secretary was on her Required Furlo Day:)
Write a bullshit song get a post office.
Give your life for your country/city and maybe you will get a paragraph on page 12.
Ah, in this era of electronic communications, how apropro that the post office name a building that no one will use after a folk singer that no one listens to.
(But I do like Lincoln Park Pirates....avast ye scurvy dogs)
Oh, and to respond to the first poster, its because Daley has a guilty conscience....assuming he has any at all.
7/15/2010 02:02:00 AM
Because he is a POS, idiot who has no clue how to talk to anyone! watch the asswipe at any news event, with that stupid laugh and drunken disposition, with his huge bodyguard detail holding his sweat rags, what a moron!
Inmates run the Asylum now...
Your just seeing Daley for what he really is: and that is a "first class asshole"!
Welcome to the Police club!
Da Pelon
Are you kidding me? This guy wrote a song....big deal!
Why not name the facility after one of our police, firefighter or military personnel who died in the line of duty? Wouldn't that be a right way to honor them?
Not a songwriter who gets PAID to write. Our public servants PAY with their lives. God bless them.
Quigley, knock it off!
Fuck Daley!
The national debt is what is owed in total. The deficit is what is owed for a particular year.
On the social security bill that will never pass, the government is broke, the social security trust fund doesn't exist and they will never pass that bill because we have other pensions. I'm worried that they're going to cut social security out for us entirely. And then our pensions will have to be cut because they don't have the money to pay out what they're obligated to pay out.
Watch your nickels and dimes folks, these rats are going to screw us and it's not that far off.
Hell, maybe they'll just print money to pay us. Remember the good old days of Jimmy Carter? Double digit unemployment, double-digit inflation and 18% mortgages. I know, but right NOW is the worst economy since the great depression. God forbid someone say that the economy was worse 33 years ago, but it was. But not to worry! Our new fools will best that for sure. They're looking out for us!
We won't have jobs, they'll tax the hell out of anyone that manages to get one but all the while, they'll just send us money. It might not buy anything, but we'll have it. If we don't vote the bastards out of office, they'll all be the undoing of us all.

That's because they have more class than he does.
ECS
No one who ran in that democratic party primary in the 5th Congressional District was worth a damn.
At least O'Connor didn't win......he sponsored a bully psycho for foreman where I work. Too bad the clout list didn't come with a recall option.
A polish physician, Dr. Victor Fory's made a surprisingly strong showing against the career politicians. I wonder if the good doctor is planning to take on any of the NW Side Aldermen next year?
