You're On Your Own!

Oakland PD is scheduled to have laid off 80 officers Tuesday. That's around 10% of their entire force. As a result, the Chief has made a list of 44 specific situations his remaining officers won't be responding to. A partial list includes the following:
  • burglary
  • theft
  • embezzlement
  • grand theft
  • grand theft:dog
  • identity theft
  • false information to peace officer
  • required to register as sex or arson offender
  • dump waste or offensive matter
  • discard appliance with lock
  • loud music
  • possess forged notes
  • pass fictitious check
  • obtain money by false voucher
  • fraudulent use of access cards
  • stolen license plate
  • embezzlement by an employee (over $ 400)
  • extortion
  • attempted extortion
  • false personification of other
  • injure telephone/ power line
  • interfere with power line
  • unauthorized cable tv connection
  • vandalism
  • administer/expose poison to another's
Now everyone knows California is a basket case. It could never happen here, right?

Wrong:
  • Squeezed by budget cuts, several suburban police departments have talked with Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart’s office about policing their towns — but Cook County Board members say those law enforcement agencies would have to cover the costs and get county board approval.

“We don’t have the resources to take on another police department,” said Commissioner Peter Silvestri, a Northwest Side and suburban Republican.

[...] The move comes two years after the sheriff’s office took over policing in Ford Heights, whose department dissolved amid financial problems. The south suburban village was expected to pay for services, but hasn’t,...
Some suburbs are actively seeking to disband their police departments and have the County take over.

We saw this comment the other day in the "Gun "Rules" Begin Today post:
  • Seriously? You're a cop and you want more guns in the hands of citizens? I don't think you've thought this through.
Well Mr/Ms Anonymous, you keep basking in that self righteousness of non-gun ownership while Oakland lays off 10% of it's force, numerous municipalities in Cook County attempt to pass off policing to the sheriffs, and the Chicago Police response times increase to tens of minutes for "in progress" calls.

Just make sure you have current ID and photo available in case we can't recognize your corpse when we finally get there.

What used to be a very good job doesn't look so good these days.
Thank God retirement is almost here, and none of my children wanted to follow dear 'ol dad into law enforcement. They definitely made the right choice! Stagnant pay and promotions, and here in Shitcago, embarrassing for what passes for leadership here.

What don't these people who oppose the right to bear arms understand?

IT IS NOT LEGAL GUN OWNERS, OR THEIR GUNS WHICH ARE CREATING THE PROBLEMS OF GUN VIOLENCE. It is criminally minded "people" who mostly get guns illegally and then use them in a criminal manner.

A law making handguns illegal, or "banning" them does not stop them from being manufactured. Criminals will always get a gun. There may be as many as 375,000 ILLEGAL guns in Chicago alone at this moment.

What will you do, Mr./Mrs./Ms. Anti Handgun when and if you are facing a criminal with a handgun who just broke into your home? How will you protect yourself? Will you try to reason with the offender? Offer to pray with them? Tell them how bad guns are?

Yes, I am a police officer and I do not fear a good citizen with a gun. I think that good citizens have the right to protect themselves.

The days are coming when there will not be enough police officers to come to you assistance when you are faced with a violent offender.

Be realistic folks! There about 2,850,000 citizens in Chicago and about 7,500 to 8,000 beat/rapid response/tactical cops divided (not evenly) into 3 watches. This is about the number of police available to respond to 911 calls. The remaining number of cops in the total number of 11,500 to 12,000 or so are specialized unit members, detectives, sergeants and above.

So, that means, throughout the WHOLE city when you include days offs, vacations, illnesses, or injury on duty, there might be on average 1,300 cops out there protecting the whole city, yes, the whole city. (Most number of officers are on third watch, least amount are on 1st watch.) That is about 1 police officer for every 21,923 citizens during a watch.

So, yes, get a gun and protect yourself.

Will shit happen even if you have a gun? Certainly. It was shown this week in the tragic killing of one of our very good officers. However, consider your chances without being armed. You simply are a sheep, ready to be devoured by a wolf.

in chicago folks are on their own justice wise allready.
what are the chances :
the offender will be caught ?
felony charges approved ?
charges bargained down ?
conviction obtained ?
fairly sentenced ?
sentence reduced ?
pardoned ?
the chance for justice declines as the offense becomes more serious.

Gotta love those liberals! They have taken it upon themselves to watch over the rest of us like we were children.

And the best part? They make the best victims! When we catch a shit head after they walked up to some 80yr old senior after they stuck a gun in their face and take what they can carry, we are told to treat this "alleged" offender with respect.

But, answer a call in which Mr/Mrs Liberal has gone through the same experience and suddenly we are the bad guys. Why don't we do something about the crime in this area? What took you so long to answer my call? You weren't sympathetic enough so I'm going to file a complaint against you.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((( * ))))))))))))))))))))))))))

No, anonymous good citizen. It is NOT that we haven't "thought this through". It is that WE are the ONLY ONES who are thinking it through that also have all of the FACTS and are able to think it all through intelligently.

And before you get all high on your horse thinking I'm saying you're not as intelligent as coppers are, I'm not. What I AM saying is that WE are the ones out here with boots on the ground and WE are the ones who measure, on a daily basis, how safe this city is and WE are the ones who KNOW that YOUR neighborhood and community and block is about to be overrun by crime.

We are also the ones who know that the mayor has allowed the # of sworn officers in the CPD to shrink by not hiring cops to replace retirees and we are therefore NOT ABLE to stop the crime that is about to overrun your little utopia that has been protected in this big bad city of gang violence and drive-by shootings.

And why don't YOU know this? Because the media won't TELL you because the mayor controls the media in this town and he will be up for re-election soon. Crime is bad news and if YOU knew that the mayor wasn't protecting YOUR neighborhood with due diligence, would you vote for him knowing the crime conditions in your community WILL NOT IMPROVE but become worse as time goes on?

Like I said, WE KNOW what the crime conditions are in this town, and WE KNOW what the police response in your neighborhood is going to be, and WE KNOW that it is NOT the GOOD citizens who have a gun in their home for self-protection that is the problem.

So, basically, don't count on government to take care of all the woes of society and always be prepared to provide an absolute and final measure of self-preservation when the police can't get to your home in time to help you.

I think since we are shorthanded,we should have a meeting on the south and west sides ( Where most of the calls for police service come from) and finally give them a list of all the calls we will not respond to. All baby mama and baby daddy domestics because you know as well as i do that two minutes later they will be back together and it is not the problem of the police that baby daddy has the keys. The check the well being calls because a normal grown adult will go check on the elderly parent and does not need the police to do what they are supposed to be doing. The calls where the 10 year old son is "disrespecting me" That should be the job of the father to control the son and if he is no where around maybe the mother should not of spread her legs for any mut on the street. But anyway this will not happen because we are not a law enforcement agency we are glorified baby sitters.

Hope & Change?

Hope you have some change after all is said and done?

Click yer heels 3 times, it's all just a bad dream...

Only The Police and the few upright citizens have the vision and discernment to see what is happening.

Kind of like that movie starring Rowdy Roddy Piper back in the 80's... (They Live?) Or something like that?

Aliens assume human form and quietly take over the world. Most sheeple are blissfully unaware... Subliminal signs and messages all over but you need to have the ability to "see." Those who could "see" were identified and killed. (Funny segment in a bank lobby where a bunch of aliens surround Piper in a bank lobby giving a flash message that ends with, "we have one who can SEEEEE!" Piper proclaims "I'm here to kick ass & chew bubble-gum... and I'm all out of gum!

Perhaps the sheeple here are going to wipe the Daley Inc. media spin bullshit out of their eyes so they can finally "see" that the warning we have been sounding for years about the financial fuckery of Daley Inc. IS NOT JUST AXE GRINDING BY A BUNCH OF DISGRUNTLED COPS!

Shortshanks is destroying this city as decent and safe place for the over-taxed, punished by fines & fees, under-serviced, getting a piss poor return for their tax dollar middle class to live, raise children and have a vested interest in.

Captive municipal employees are key to him keeping a thinning tax base intact (somewhat) through the antiquated artifice & contrivance of residency.

"You're On Your Own" is a damning indictment loaded with the mother & father of all implications.

Dead-on SCC. Dead-on like a muthafuckah!

They had a similar predicament in D,C. more than a couple of years ago. Their solution was to allow officers to retire. Then the city would hire them back at their former salaries/positions. They could only stay for 5 years total. What that did was keep experienced officers on the street while they hired & trained newbies. I don't expect they'd want to spend the money for a program like that here. They also hired the newly retired to teach in their academy (at a cheaper rate I may add). It was a win-win situation because they had instructors who knew what they were talking about and were paying less for it. I still question how much somebody with only a couple of years on the job can teach a recruit.

Remember regardless of minor "municipal ordinance" violations, according to UUW a handgun can legally be transported unloaded and encased, in ones vehicle. The Ill. Supreme Court has ruled that a center console counts as encased. one could (i do not advise breaking the law) drive with the console cracked open, a magazine inserted and the slide locked back. A 10th of a second to release the slide, and good to go. also a split second to hit the mag release and shut the console (if one wants to remain legal).

Their law, their code, their standard, all-purpose excuse for any behavior -- "Ees no like I keel someone!" -- has finally been officially validated!

Burglary and theft and bad checks are OK now? Wow.

As Aleister Crowley -- the self-appointed Voice Of The Devil -- said, "'Do what thou wilt' shall be the whole of the law."

Now you can "dump waste or offensive matter" and leave discarded refrigerators with no locks right on the lawn of City Hall.

I would.

I think I'd go for the "unauthorized cable TV connection" too. Kind of a counterpoint to the "loud music," something to do while I "expose poison" to the neighbor's Chihuahua.

PEOPLE ASK WHY?
Why I Might Carry a Gun

My old grandpa said to me
"Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and
usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin."
I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
I don’t carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
I don’t carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world..

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government..

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I am a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police protection is an oxymoron.
Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'.....
author unknown (to me at least)

Just read an article where more than 200 police departments (didn't say which ones) have installed on-line crime reporting systems. The company, Coplogic Inc, provides the software system. Filing is easy as the system guides users step by step. Put in the who, what, where, when and a synopsis of what happened-and click its done. It works for small nonviolent crimes with no identifiable suspects and the like. It also reduces the cost for police depts and saves time. But then again I guess this system will cost money, and I don't think any of the Daley clan or relatives of the aldercreatures are in that business yet. Sorry, I had a senior moment there.

To shed a little light on 7/14/2010 02:55:00 AM's questions --

In a first offense for alleged "domestic violence" for non-police --

what are the chances :
the offender will be caught- 100%
felony charges approved- 100%
charges bargained down- 0%
conviction obtained- 100%
fairly sentenced- 0%
sentence reduced- 0%
pardoned- 0%

"The chance for justice declines as the offense becomes more serious."

...or less politically correct.

Looks like Oakland should have been making some 'service cuts' a long time ago! And let's face it, some small scale looting and arrests after the BART officer trial decision didn't help matters there financially, either. Maybe it should have been explained to the good citizens in Oakland that any misbehavior on the part of their residents after the decision was handed down would hasten a partial shutdown of their local govt.

Due to exigent circumstances, a supervisor may now order the removal of certain homicide victims from scene by Streets and San.

That was 'Soylent Green', man!

Jfled I have a good suggestion for officer safety

have sergeants ride with 1 man units on 1st and 3rd watches

it would be safer for sgt and officers , when unit is on a paper job sgt. could drive around and return when officer completes case report

Really? Do they call the same two guys in the orange safety vests with the shovels and trash bags who pick up the dead cats and stuff?"

Do they call out a regular garbage truck or use one of the new recycling trucks.

Man -- and that is an affluent suburb.

Ever pump up a tire with a puncture still in it? You get up to a few PSI and then just stay there, no matter how hard you pump.

Listening to WBBM Radio's "Noon Business Report" is like that. Every day, they invite some new character onto the show to try his hand at pumping. At the end of the show, after a lot of forced jocularity and brave talk, the tire is still flat.

I still can't believe what I'm seeing; this freight train has the brakes full on, and is smoking, squealing, and juddering down the tracks -- but it just won't quite stop.

House foreclosures, overgrown lawns and "Mayor Daley's Dilapidated Garage" tear-down stickers seen more and more through "da neighborhoods" like Schorsch Village -- then you get out onto a main street and see "60,000 square feet commercial space FOR LEASE" at a failed manufacturer - and a new commercial building insanely being constructed right next to all this empty space.

Grand and Thatcher in River Grove -- brand-new eight-store strip mall with seven stores "FOR LEASE" and the eighth occupied by a "Criket" cell-phone franchise, the world's fastest here-today-gone-tomorrow insect of a tenant.

Obese people still waddling out of the malls lugging big-screen HDTVs with eight kids swirling and screaming around them -- uneducated people who don't even speak the language, loading up their brand-new SUVs.

Back home at the garage sale, though, padre is trying to sell all his tools, and not finding many takers. Contractor stuff -- table saw, portable saws, drills, sanders, routers, hand tools, extension cords, everything -- all with handprints all over it from fresh paint and used real hard. No more condos to build...go over by Addison and Avondale and look at the mud lake that was once a factory and was supposed to have been a paradise of new single-family homes, all sold by now...it's been years, and they have completed one (1) model home, and are dabbling at two more.

Don't know why -- the "sales office" was torn down a long time ago.

I see these scenes all through the city and suburbs.

This economy has got a LONG way left to fall...

chicago will never lay off police officers--- to costly to train them--- but they will let the manpower drain to ridiculously low levels to balance the sheets--- remember all you greyhounds who think they are making a difference--- you step on your pee pee and you get sacrificed just like anyone else no matter how many arrests and awards you have--- imagine in your mind the day that you have to go home and tell your wife and kids that you are going to lose your job--- good luck, you are going to need it...

'Remember regardless of minor "municipal ordinance" violations, according to UUW a handgun can legally be transported unloaded and encased, in ones vehicle. The Ill. Supreme Court has ruled that a center console counts as encased. one could (i do not advise breaking the law) drive with the console cracked open, a magazine inserted and the slide locked back. A 10th of a second to release the slide, and good to go. also a split second to hit the mag release and shut the console (if one wants to remain legal).'

Well, if I stop anyone in a car with a firearm in their center console in such a condition, said motorist WILL be going to jail with a UUW charge. I'm just sayin'. See ya in court!

reduce amount of exempts

JFLED has no idea how many officers are hidden by his district commanders

JFLED review the A&A sheets and you ' ll find many officers are not assigned to primary beats"

Yeah especially in the commanders and deputy chiefs offices. Put them on the streets and let civilians or better yet retired PO's or limited duty officers handle the caseload. Full duty officers should be policing, PERIOD.

Why would you violate the 2nd Amendment??You think you are the only one allowed to carry a gun because you have a badge. An officers gun is just one of the tools of their job.Its a right and not a privelage so get used to this concept.

As long as a loaded mag is not in the firearm, I can keep it in the center console with the slide back as long as the lid of the console is down, so sayeth the Illinois Supreme Court. I hope you do stop me some day and charge UUW. The minor discomfort will be worth it when I'll be retiring on the lawsuit against the city and on the monthly payments my attorney will force from your pension asshat. KNOW the law,I'm just saying.
