How About a Three Strikes Law?

  • A South Side man with a history of pickpocketing in the downtown area remains in jail Monday on $80,000 bond after he was stopped by a Cook County Sheriff's Deputy last week as he allegedly attempted to steal a woman's purse at a Loop restaurant.

The arrest last week was the 58th time for Reginald McNeil, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Would a "Fifty-Strikes Law" be out of the question? At some point, people forfeit their rights to live in a civilized society. We'd say this turd passed that moment about 48 arrests ago. It's obvious that he isn't learning anything from spending time in jail.

Not to worry, a Cook County judge will surely give him a very stern lecture before releasing him...again.

I contend that if the framers of our Constitution would have known how unproductive and parasitic individuals would become, they would have been more restrictive with affording everyone civil liberties. Frankly, if an individual has not participated in a productive manner, in society, then the don't deserve the same basic rights

All the fault of the SAO, Public Defender's office and the Judges that ignore behaviour like this "person" exhibits.

Hopefully the public will wake up.

I want to see Anita explain this.

Kinda off topic, but related to mugging shitheads: My brother's a mechanical engineer/master machinist at a local tool and die.

He made my wife and I a great little device where we have Fox Labs MK9 crowd control OC cans mounted inside our briefcases. It can be fired right through a side port in the briefcase by activating an electronic trigger mounted on the cases handle. It's a great little system and that 30' of spray will put down an entire crowd of wilding thugs. We burned up about $200 worth of MK9 cans testing it and it works perfectly.

The best part is there's no 'draw time'. As I'm walking downtown, my hand is literally on my defensive weapon and it takes about 1/2 a second to deactivate the safety, point the briefcase and fire.

Does anyone think cops might be able to use these? Probably not the street guys, but cops in any other roles?

The police lock 'em up, and the judges let 'em go! Mmm... maybe if the judges had to chase and arrest these idiots, they wouldn't be so lenient!

Take heart, that offender is now eligible for Anita Alvarez's "super-double secret don't you ever even think of doing it again this time we really really mean it and we don't want to see you back in this court" probation.

One thing I have always been curious about is why prosstitution can be filed as a felony after enough arrests and misdemeanor convictions , and hookers are given a year , yet not all these other misdemeanors?
Secondly , why are people rarely fined on misdemeanors , or at least charged court costs ?These people seem to always have plenty of cash for drugs, cigarettes , tattoos , cell phones , weaves , nails , lottery tickets ? Seems to me that there is a giant source of revenue out there to tap. I know tax paying citizens don't get 20 chances whenever the city is able to get cash from them. It's pay -OR ELSE!

In Crook county you do not get strikes. You get time outs. 50 time outs and you get a free link card.

Ernie was out visiting another potential Baby's mama when he saw the opportunity to act like he knew what he was doing. Another example of incompetence promoted too far.

Kinda brings to mind Otis of the
Andy Griffith Show. Otis would get
drunk, mosey down to Sheriff Taylor's jail, open the cell door
and go in and close the door behind
himself and sleep off his drunk.
When he woke-up sober, And and
Deputy Fife would shake his hand
and tell him to behave hinself.
Could this be what the judges and
the prosecutors have been doing for
this fool ? It's not funny and he
is fortunate that one of his victims did not whip his a$$ or bust a cap in it.
Why have a court system if the
people running it cannot or will not put offenders in jail ?
Semms like the perpetrators have
more legal rights that the injured
party does. And failure to jail them only makes the offender bolder.

i wish keating would be as tough on these guys as he is on other things. guys like this roam the loop day and night with impunity. as a south loop resident i have gone to the meetings etc. and hear how the police are aware and vigilant. i have gone days at a time without seeing a single squad car or bicycle person on s. wabash. however the predators never miss a day.

This situation is the total failure of the Cook County S/A Office. They simply have no desire to prosecute someone like this. And I bet he was on parole and they did not even bother to revoke him. This is the kind of guy who should be front page news of the Trib and Sun-Times. There simply is no accountability for those who are responsible for failing to deal with this guy. Someday we will read that he knifed someone during his robbery and the story will hardly merit more than two paragraphs in the paper. Not very surprising, there are worse out there than him I'm certain.

It's obvious to anyone with a brain, that whomever this criminal is, he has no skills that will allow him to obtain gainful employment...Why, because as you clearly stated he's been arrested more than 48+ times? So I'm sure he's high in the food chain wait-list to get a job...NOT

Does this make his criminal actions OK, NO NOT in anyway? But it does help to understand why, he does what he does.

Instead of sending him back and forth to jail waisting tax dollars, why not teach him a trade, so that he can feed himself and that of his family? Give a man a fish and he eats for one day, teach a man to fish and eats each day.

I'd much rather my tax dollars go towards that which, I'm sure is cheaper than sending him back to jail another 48+ times, with associated costs.

Where is the empathy people? We need to come together and fix problems with knowledge and education, NOT HATE.
