Ernie is picking up the Warriors! mantle:
- Ernie Brown is up to his old tricks again. One of his favorite things is to ride around and watch P.O's respond to jobs from down the block. He monitors the radio then zooms in and starts shouting orders.
The other night in Englewood, two coppers on midnights on-viewed a large disturbance in the parking lot of a gas station. They were outnumbered at least 25 to 2, so from the safety of their car, they used the PA to disperse the crowd. An outside unit arrived on the scene when one of the subjects started whooping it up again. At this point, knowing they had backup, the two coppers get out of their car and draw their tasers. One group begins to go east and the other group goes west when Ernie Brown comes zooming on the scene, jumps out of his car and starts yelling at the crowd that they are under arrest for mob action.
The two coppers had absolutely no idea who EB was. He zoomed up in a black car and jumped out wearing jeans and a red polo--no vest, no gunbelt, no visible police I.D. anywhere. They were trying to do their job and some idiot zooms in and takes over. EB directs the outside unit to arrest 5 guys for mob action, and the Englewood coppers go about their business.
The next morning, Carothers is having a heart attack because EB sent him an email basically saying that the guys from Englewood sat in their car and did nothing while a huge crowd got out of control and HE (EB) had to take charge and lock people up. Brown went on to say that their actions were disgraceful and that their sergeant had better step up and be a better supervisor.
If you think coppers should risk their asses over some BS argument where they are outnumbered 25 to 2, you are absolutely crazy.
But not if you're WARRIORS!

Something must be in the Kool-Aid. As I recall a certain former 1st Deputy was a commander at the time. He decided to "be the police" and frisk some shithead against a wall while in civilian clothes. A citizen sees this and calls in a robbery in progress. Thanks Starks. Some coppers could have been killed rushing to the scene while you wanted to relive your glory days. Maybe next time you'll use your radio and fill us in with some hibbidy jibbidy.

If any of the arresting officers had balls, they would've asked DownTown for his misdemeanor key and put him in Box #1. Unfortunately, most of the coppers on this job don't have balls enough to think this way, let alone verbalize such a response. (Read: Hair Gels).

You can say what you want about EB's extracirucular activities. But he is the police and is not afraid to put hands on people. He used to ride around 003 when he was DC running after people and locking them up. So he may be a lot of other things but unlike many bosses he at least tries to be the police and from what I have witnessed he is. Just saying.
It looks like Lt. Dan Dugan of the O'Hare Airport warriors has to school Ernie in the ways of urban warfare. But Dan is busy these days, as I'll bet right now he is settling an important dispute regarding a passenger who cut in line at the United Airlines check-in counter. Some warrior, indeed.
EB needs to be careful, flying into hostile situations like that in the middle of the night. He just might find that some of the cops working midnites in the tougher districts will take direct action against whatever they determine is a threat to their safety....like some exempt rushing into a volatile situation who isn't wearing a vest, badge, or official id.
F U EB!!! Let me tell you what happens if we lock up every crowd of "honor students"...we down beat cars processing mutiple arrestees for hours while other officers cover their beat. Also, that's one less car out there when the shit hits the fan, and we can't afford having less cars out there.
Now that was the best case scenario! The other scenarios involve use of force, CR's, lawsuits, and injuries to officers.
We have to pick our battles, now go back to shining your gold star, throwing yourself in front of every news camera, and "padding" your resume.

We heard that "real police" b.s. over and over with cowardice commanders and lieutenants who didn't say shit to EB for insulting and lying about the coppers. The commanders all talked about EB behind his back but they all played the game to his face to save their job. Everyone started to learn about EB parking nearby when alert coppers got near scene and ratted him out. Keep your eyes open and phones on. Supervisors: Save his emails because they're retarded and he will lie about them later. Be very very careful of his tips and clues and orders to hit locations. There is always always something personal behind it. He is one huge liar. He is one huge idiot. He has political/gang reverend power. Very very dangerous combination.

There in lies a major problem with this department. People being given supervisory positions without possessing any of the people skills, knowledge, or qualities that are needed to actually be a good supervisor. I will bet that this great boss did not even give the officers an opportunity to explain why they did what they did. Just jump to a conclusion, get angry, and yell is probably not on the list of ways to handle your people in any management textbook. Typical know nothing chicago supervisor who likes to flex his power and yell out orders without knowing what is going on. I bet he would have flipped out if they put him in box 1 (he did order their arrest right?). But dont worry, I'm sure he would be right there with those officers backing them up if there was a beef or any civil action, oh wait, it sounds like he was the beefer.. ok, but surely if there was any lawsuit he would stand by them, a no on that one too eh...
Well just so you know bosses, dont confuse any fake respect for the positions you may hold (general orders dictate that we must) with respect for the person holding that position (that has to be earned). Most of the time the blue shirts are thinking "what an a%%^&le" as your driving away or when we are leaving your offices.
Good supervisors on this job should be listed on the endangered species list, along with proactive coppers (hmmm, I wonder if one has anything to do with the other??????).
The two coppers did the right thing. In a similar situation, I learned my lesson the hard way, we called for back up, told the mutts to leave over the P.A. numerous times, and when it seemed safe enough we exited are car. The scum bags started up again and we had to take police action and locked some of them up. 1st after the TRR's the watch commander did not like my charges and had me change it to something else, he leaves and the other watch commander didn't like that charge and had me change it back, go to the area with one of the arrestee's only to have that watch commander try to change that charge to something else too..it went back and fourth from differnt disorderly conduct's to reckless conduct's to mob aciton.. 2nd my word vs scum bag in a bench trail, scum bag wins...3rd I get a law suit saying I violated his civil rights....What a complete waste of time all over HORSESHIT!!! Then the leaders in roll call tell us to lock these mopes up when they are acting a fool and don't want to leave or listen to you and they'll have your back.....BULLSHIT!!! I'll 19P that shit. And EB would want to know why I didn't do anything?? I would say no one wanted to sign complaints.

After reading the last three items in SCC, I don't know how any policeman goes out and does his job every day. It sounds like "the inmates are in charge of the asylum". What is wrong with the leaders of this city. Where are they getting the police administration from? Have any of them been on the street on midnights? I give so much credit to the police for going out and trying to do their best when they have "merit promotion" hacks leading the department. I am not the police but I have respect for the real working police. You guys and girls are in my prayers every day.
Midnights in 007 have been warned! We are going to do a new type of patrol to win the streets. Commander Carrothers has decided that burglary/home invasion is the wave of the future in crime fighting. In the CO book there is a memo that states if there is a large party at a home, the R/O's are to arrest the home owner and then to confiscate and inventory their stereo equipment (speakers, turntables, etc.). So, not only will the p.o. now be sued eventually for violation of civil rights, the ASA will actually probably approve burglary charges.
The beat cars are also supposed to make large arrests for disorderly conduct and mob action. I thought mob action got thrown out years ago, but then again I am but a non-clouted P.O. so what would i know. Large crowd, arrest them all. Party, arrest them all. So what if 8 beat cars are down on arrests and the backlog is huge, we are here to get the numbers up so the commander can move up. So what if there is NO backup when an officer is in trouble on a crazy friday or saturday night cause cars are down on these arrests. Blueshirts don't matter. Let them get hurt. As the commander has asked midnight P.O.'s many times: "how many years you got on? 5? I got 25. You haven't done anything." Pissers, drinkers and loud music arrests are the way to go. Guns? Not a "quality of life arrest" even though i'd rather have dude point his turntable at me than a gun, but what do i know. I'm not a child of clout.

Those big John and Jane Waynes screetch from job to job and then scream for assists and then scream at the patrol officer to "lock 'em up" and the patrol officer doesn't even know what the offender did because the "all knowing" commander just commanded that they "do as I say." You put the commander down as the witness and they won't be at court and you get stuck holding the bag and the guy walks at court. We all know how this idiocy is played out. I worked for a cmdr. years ago who did the same exact thing.
Note to Commanders: stay in your chair and run the day-to-day operations of your command. Show some respect to your troops who are running the show outside your comfy cubbyhole. Come out only when necessary when there is a TRUE emergency and then make the executive decisions you are being paid to do.

I'm no fan of Ernie Brown, or his grandstanding ways. Having said that, I know for a FACT that EB, when he was an ADS, had helped more than a few coppers out of sticky situations that required him to be notified and respond to.
