Officer Injured
- Chicago police shot and killed a man who dragged an officer nearly a block during a drug bust in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the South Side, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at about 1 p.m. near 59th Street and Western Avenue as officers were "conducting surveillance in an area known for high gang and narcotic activity," police said in a statement.
Officers tried stop a vehicle involved in a drug buy, but the driver fled and dragged one of the officers, police said. An officer opened fire and struck the man. Police said they recovered drugs.
Offender dead. WBBM radio reporting that the injured officer is in serious condition even though the above link says there was a minor shoulder injury. Careful out there, boys and girls.

OT-Fred Waller just named commander of 002. Was this guy even a Lt for 2 full months? I'm guessing there won't be much to move out of his tact Lt office in 004. Plus this guy is as sharp as my 5 year olds scissors.

We were out and about last week and made the most interesting acquantance.
Distinguished gentleman in his mid 80's, WW2 and Korean War Veteran was having lunch with his wife, a cancer survivor. (God bless them both. That generation was made of the "real stuff!)
They roped us into their conversation (We actually do enjoy talking it up with seniors. We figure there's a chance to "accidently" learn from them.)
Well. The "Ol Vet" had been around the block doing a wee ration of throat cutting when the people of this nation had the stomach for it if that's what it meant to keep us safe.
As we parted company, he said, "It's really a pity what's happening in this city and how the Police aren't feared and respected by criminals and citizens. Perhaps killing more armed and dangerous criminals would work to everybody's benefit."
Of course he had that unmistakable glint in his eye that we recognized from "once upon a time." when he said it. we asked him, "How did you know?" Then we said, "Of course you knew from the beginning. Never mind answering that!"
We shook hands in the fashion of men and wished each other well.
That old man and others like him are the ones Daley inc. and the "Hope we get all your change" yellow-pinkies of the mess-iah aka "sparklefarts" are terrified of.
We hope the season of cold eyed common sense and discernment by the electorate/hard working common sense using, tax paying minority who refuses to be taken for granted by career politicians and slickly exotic, hard to pin on a position of real consequence "community organizer" who seeks to model participatory democratic governance into his socialistic wet dream.
