These are Stories?

We guess the economy must be fixed and the Republicans didn't win any seats in the House according to the Sun Times. They're wasting ink and paper on stories like these:
  • A female Roosevelt University was robbed of her iPhone downtown early Monday.

At 12:30 a.m., a female Roosevelt University student was robbed of her iPhone in the 600 block of South Michigan Avenue, according to Central District police.

Really? An iPhone? Any helpful descriptions of the offenders? Nope, not a clue aside from "two males."

Or this one:
  • A Chicago Police officer fatally shot a pitbull after it apparently attacked him Monday afternoon in the Far South Side Pullman neighborhood.

The officer was conducting an investigation near West 118th Street and South Princeton Avenue about 1:30 p.m. when a pitbull escaped a yard and bit him in the ankle, police said.

We hope the officer has a speedy recovery, but is this really news? The CPD probably kills a dog every week or two, but we seldom recall any headlines over it.

There are no less than ten I phone robberies a day on zone 4. Strange that this one made the news.

Gee, but they never seem to mention the "wildings" occurring on Michigan Avenue or in the Rush Street area.

Guess we wouldn't want to scare away the tourists... Or give the young, black male street punks a bad name!

I work in 001 and there's at least a dozen or so iPhones a week ripped out of the hands of unsuspecting tourists, suburbanites and clueless yuppies. It's always the same description on the offenders - two or three young male blacks. It's not news, it's just a daily event. It's no wonder the Slum Times has gone down the toilet.

An old friend who has great wisdom once told me, "Don't advertise". That holds true today, don't walk around with valuables in plain sight if you expect to keep them.

Let me get this straight: I shoot a dog now, and I am put on the breathalyzer? Are you kidding? No allegation, nothing, and I go on the box?

So, now I don't put down the dog. I don't drink on or off duty, but I have to go on the box for discharging my weapon. Guilty until proven innocent! What idiot thought of this?

I have had to destroy a dog while working. It was hard enough since I've always had dogs. This new rule means I'll never do it again. Never.

As long as we are talking about "news stories" that aren't really news stories, how about this kid from Des Plaines that was run over by a tractor trailer last week? I can see the news running with the story on day one, maybe even a second day but for the whole weekend and then some? I'm sorry for him and his family but WTF?

Hopefully some tourist with a 9mm will blast the shit out of some of those wilding punks. The police can only write the case report after the fact.

The I phone robbers know that we can't catch them. There are hundreds of kids from the south side in 018 and 001 on the weekends. They tell store owners that there's nothing they can do to them while they shoplift. They steal I phones and beat citizens at random. We are outnumbered and they know it. It has turned into anarchy on the weekends.

OT, but very funny.
Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel , "Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, (when Welfare was introduced) Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land." Today, Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels and mortgaged the Promised Land! I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, my lost savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc . . . I called a Suicide Hotline. I had to press “1” for English. I was connected to a call center in Pakistan . I told them I was suicidal. They got excited and asked if I could drive a truck

"The pit bull apparently attacked the officer?" I hope that ridiculously equivocal statement is that of the paper, not the officer.

"Any helpful descriptions of the offenders?"

That would be racist.

I'm disturbed by the vicious smear on the "pit bull," as well. I think that the term "animal" would be more than sufficient to illustrate the cruelty of the Police Department.

Dogs bite. It is their nature. What's next -- gunning down a bird for singing, and endangering an entire schoolyard full of children while so doing?

I am getting the hang of this new "liberal" way of thinking. Hasn't been easy.

Not only did they leave out the description of the "young males" they also left out that they punched her in the face and that both offenders were apprehended a couple of blocks away by the police. Great job 001 Officers! Why they covered this robbery and not the other 10 that day I don't know. iPhone should include a handout with their phones on how not to get it snatched out of your hand. Of course the first thing on the list would be to put away your phone if you see a group of honor students nearby.

What is the point in saying the dog apparently attacked the officer when in the next line in says it bit him in the ankle?

All we need now is a graduation photo of the dog from obedience school where he was an honor student followed by the same old story that he was looking forward to turning his life around with his new job working security in the automotive recycling field to help support his bitches and many young pups.

I hate the media.

That is probably because we haven't shot a two-legged dog recently. The media must continually put us in a bad light somehow.

I've heard that back in the day, on overnight shifts in neighborhoods with particularly bad stray dog problems, that the watch commanders gave standing orders to shoot any stray, tagged or not, on sight.

The word should be "allegedly" as in the dog allegedly bit the officer. It's the officer's word against a damn dead dog. Who would believe the dog anyway? Unless the officer is on doggie cam blowing the dog to canine hell and planting a drop gun on the dog.

Obviously, since this policy has been halted, the stray dog problem has diminished.

Right?

Badly needed poster --

Graphic, blurred black-and-white photo of dog baring fangs.

Caption --

"You wouldn't let a rat bite you. A dog is a lot bigger."

Duh.

Astonishing, this inability of many people to grasp that Floppy there is nothing more than dangerous vermin when left to run wild.

OT ~ Now here's a story for ya... Funny how it doesn't make the news till AFTER the election.

Illinois congressmen pay wives from campaign funds

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has given wife Sandi Jackson's company at least $315,000 for her work.

Rep. Bobby Rush's campaign has paid his wife, Carolyn Rush, more than $240,000 to serve as a consultant.

Two other Chicago-area congressmen, Danny Davis and Luis Gutierrez, have given their wives smaller amounts for doing campaign work. The four lawmakers, all Democrats, were re-elected last week.
