J-Fled, Shortshanks Muzzled
It was nice to see the politicos take a back seat to what really mattered - a man taken from his family far too soon:
The wail of bagpipes and a phalanx of fellow officers silently standing salute greeted the remains of slain fallen Chicago Police evidence technician Michael Flisk at St. Rita of Cascia Church Wednesday.
- During the service, police Supt. Jody Weis was invited to speak by the Rev. Tom Mulcrone, but after walking to the front he told the priest that the family preferred to hear only from Fliskās daughter.
We'd also like to extend our thanks to all the outside units and agencies that showed up to support us in our grief. The Honor Guard, too well-versed in their duties this year. The Pipe Bands. CFD was great as always - we tease them on occasion, but when the chips are down and the dress blues come out, well...
We heard NYPD had a contingent here and some poor cop from the west coast arrived without winter gear. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa and who knows how many other "flyover" states were represented along with our own Illinois State troopers (if we missed you, let us know in the comments - we couldn't see everyone). And our suburban brethren from across the area. You make us proud to be part of that thin blue line, unfortunately, one member thinner this cold December day. Thank you one and all.

The Band, Honor Guard, the Mounted, the P.P.O.s and all the rest freezing at the cemetery to say goodbye to a hero. Really impressive. It is what family does.
It's true about CFD. We jab each other back and forth a little, but they're always there for us. While escorting Officer Flisk to the morgue that fatal day, I saw CFD lined up on almost every street corner with Ladders up over the street and there they were saluting us -- that really got to me. If anything made me tear up that day, it was that.
Agreed. The razzing between CFD and CPD is all in jest, but I'll tell ya what, those CFD guys standing out there in the cold bringing coffee to the mourners was much appreciated at the wake. An hour or so to wait to pay respects, but they stayed out all night taking care of us. God bless us all, CPD & CFD.
God bless the Flisk, Blake, an Peters families during what will be a sad an rough holiday season.
We're always with you, CPD.
A big thank you should also go out to San Diego California and Cleveland Ohio who I saw in attendance today. Thank you officers!!
Sorry I couldn't make to the funeral but I made it to the funraiser tonight at the FOP Hall.
So glad the family didn`t allow the two phonies to speak. I remember back in 1970 the rabblerouser Jesse Jackson wanted to attend Sgt. Severin`s wake. Severin and Tony Rizzato were assasinated at Cabrini Green. Jessie`s people were told that if he shows up he get`s his ass kicked. Jesse made a wise decision.
Rest in Peace Officer Flisk. Your daughter did you proud today. You raised an amazing family in spite of the evil you saw daily. This earth has lost an amazing person.
Cleveland OH, came out. 1st time I've seen them! Thanks for the support...
Glad to see these two a-holes weren't allowed to politicize Flisk's mass. Weis has been on every TV show and radio program that will give him airtime in his rather obvious bid to save his job/change his image/schmooze his way into another job.
Too bad channel 5 TV put Rahm on while he made an appearance at the benefit at the FOP hall.
What the hell was he doing there and why did they even bother to talk to him? They also mentioned that Chico was there, but he either didn't rate a TV appearance or (hopefully) was too classy to put himself on TV during this event.
Either way, now's the time to start drilling mayoral candidates to determine who's going to do his/her best for CPD and the rest of the city employees.
Dont forget Ohio and the great city of Cleveland. They had at least 4 members of their honor guard at the funeral today. Plus I saw an NYPD copper at the benefit tonight at the FOP hall. He was from the 19th precinct in New York City and truly a class act. If he reads this blog he will know that I am talking about him. Its a welcoming feeling to see all of us standing together on such a sad day. And Kudos to Michael's sister who is a Sgt. in 009. Her speech tonight at the FOP hall was a tear jerker and the ending was priceless. Its on days like today that make me most proud to say I am CPD.
D Rod
It was truely a beautiful service. P.O. Flisk and his wife should be very proud of their children, especially their daughter, who delivered a heartfelt eulogy.
Thank you St. Rita for opening up your auditorium so we could see and hear the service (and keep warm).
And shame on the F/1 exempt in the auditorium who was wearing an iPod for most of the service!!! I was trying to see her name plate, so I could bust her here, but couldn't get close enough. She had close cropped black/grey hair, was in the front row and kept getting up and walikng around (hey everybody, look at me! I'm important!).
"J-Fled, Shortshanks Muzzled"
OOOhhhh, ***Bitch-Slap*** on a cold winter day....
That's gotta sting!
So was that an intentional snub or did the priest not know that the family didn't want the service to be a politico circus?
Either way, it caused those of us in the auditorium to break out into applause when JFled went and sat back down.
I havent formed many opinions about who I will vote for when we elect our next mayor. But I will say this: Rahm Emanuel was at the benefit at the FOP hall tonight sharing his condolences and asking questions of the rank and file. A nice step and a good gesture even if it is only for his own benefit. Not one of the other candidates bothered to attend.
I'm glad the family didn't want to hear J-Fled and Daley's fake, phoney and cookie cutter speach. These two clowns are the scorn of the city and could care less about any police officer. They just go through the motions and act like they care for a minuet because as politicians they have to. Everyone knows that they hate us and they have no business talking to anyone. J-Fled and his crew of phoneys make me sick every time I see them in our uniform.
I just laugh now whenever I see the poster that states, "Chicago Police, Earned Not Given." It's time to get rid of that motto.
A big thanks to the Chicago Blackhawks players for attending the benefit last night. Real class acts.
Did anybody else notice at the beginning of the service at the church as the priest was signing, "in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost Amen" the sun came out bright as day directly above the church for those few seconds? The Lord truely opened the gates of Heaven and received this hero today. GOD bless all my brothers and sisters and may we never meet under these circumstances again. To all the out of state officers that made the long trip for us today, we will never forget what you have done. My San Diego brother, you sir were a class act and total gentleman, thank you.
Thank God that J-Fled and Shortshanks were not allowed to utter a word and make a mockery out of this tragedy. Mike's daughter Peggy brought tears to my eyes during her eulogy to a great and good man. Heartbreaking.
If I was ever killed line of duty, I wouldn't want either of those scum bags near my wake and funeral. Every time that phony J-Fled wears our uniform, it's like spitting in our faces. No respect. No common decency. Damn him to hell.
Mike is with the Lord now. RIP, brother.
Cleveland had a contingent of about 10 Officers drive in.
I am glad that the family didn't want them to talk. But we shouldn't read in to it. We should just repect their wishes.
Asst Deputy Superintendant EB attending an honors funeral and doesn't even have the respect to be in proper uniform. Standing there with no rank designator on his outer garment epaulets. WILL THERE BE A SPAR? Or will the reverends have to be consulted for permission? HOW MUCH MORE OF THIS MUST WE ENDURE?

3 cars from Columbus Ohio were present.
It was honor for me to be detailed to the funeral yesterday. It truly was. My prayers are with the family.
Nice Salute SCC!
I went to the wake near the end and the Honor Guard Officer that was by our fallen brother, was most impressive. Crisp, clean, well-groomed and straight as a ram rod. All of the officers that participate in the wakes and funerals are first-rate. My hat is off to you all! You all add a touch of reverence to a most solemn occasion.
Thanks to the "other" CPD out there :-)
The Cleveland Police Department came out as did the Elyria, OH Police department.
If someone could please forward my number to the family of Officer Michael Flisk. I would more than gladly make them a memorial video if they would like.

New Trier hall of fame: Rumsfeld in, Rahm out
Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Rainn Wilson, who plays goofball Dwight K. Schrute on "The Office?" You bet. But actress Ann-Margret and Chicago mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel? Forget it. Winnetka's New Trier Township High School Wednesday released the winners of its first-ever alumni Hall of Honor awards, based on a commitment to "inquiry, compassion and service."
So Rham having been BORN in a Chicago hosptial and raised in Winnetka can't even get an award from his high school but a commedian on tv can. Ha Ha Ha Ha
Just shows how much Rahm has given back to the community.
The service was professional and well coordinated as always. Unfortunately we all had to come together for a very bad reason. I worked the funeral yesterday and two guys with very funny looking badges came up and asked if it was alright to attend. They told me they were from Serbia and were here to extradite someone. Instead of leaving once their subject was in custody they stayed for several extra days after they had heard about Mike, saying they wanted to pay their respects to a fallen officer. Class act. Thank you officers.
I thanked an NYPD Officer otw into the Church... THANKS AGAIN!

SSC the entire Cleveland Police Honor Guard was there.
What the hell was he doing there and why did they even bother to talk to him? They also mentioned that Chico was there, but he either didn't rate a TV appearance or (hopefully) was too classy to put himself on TV during this event.

--Stop with the petty bullshit already. This isn't the time!
My prayers for all members of the CPD & CFD, both past and present!
Can anyone tell me what awards J-Fled has earned as the supt? I notice that he had some ribbons on his uniform, what are they for? Besides never earning the right to wear the uniform what are those ribbons for?
It was truely a beautiful service. P.O. Flisk and his wife should be very proud of their children, especially their daughter, who delivered a heartfelt eulogy.

No need to thank us, that's what family's do, we take care of each other. Mikes family is a part of our Rita family and the CPD was mikes extended family making the CPD also our extended family. Rest assure the St. Rita family will always be there for the flisks. God bless you all, St. Rita of Cascia pray for us.
Either way, it caused those of us in the auditorium to break out into applause when JFled went and sat back down.

I'm sorry I missed THAT.
"Peg", You, your bothers, and mother, are a class act. You acted on dads wishes.
The wonderful memories you shared with us were beautiful and made me cry.
I know your father is proud he raised such wonderful children.
He did it right.
Even though I did not know your dad, through you and your family, you have shown the world he was a "CLASS ACT". RIP MIKE
Cleveland had five or six officers.

Panel Recommends Abolishing Death Penalty In Illinois
A plan to abolish the death penalty in Illinois has cleared a legislative committee and is on its way to the full House for debate.
A judiciary panel approved the measure by a 4-to-3 margin.
The bill's sponsor, Democratic State Representative Karen Yarbrough, indicated she may call the bill for a vote on the House floor sometime Tuesday.
No one has been executed in Illinois since then-Governor George Ryan ordered a moratorium on capital punishment in 2000

Agreed. The razzing between CFD and CPD is all in jest..
I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Fire Department. They have always been there for me. I do my part by always blocking an intersection for them. And the Ribbing/Jagging I get is nothing short than funny as hell! I wish us Coppers were as tight!!
More tips n' clues...
Yes, many outside departments were represented at church on Wednesday.
There were also two detectives from Serbia in attendance, here in Chicago on an extradition. They likewise attended to honor our fallen.
Real class acts...Thank You one and all.
In the past Chicago has not sent sent representatives to outside agency wakes/funerals.
Now with the introduction of a relatively new organization, 'The Brotherhood of the Fallen,' Chicago is represented by uniformed members of the organization throughout the U.S.
They deserve our support as well.
We can't say enough though about our other most worthwhile organizations.
Our Chicago Police Memorial Foundation initially presented the Flisk family with a check for $50,000.00 for support and expenses. In the future, all of the (4) children will have all of their grammar and high school educations paid by the CPMF in addition to additional school expenses along with Christmas gifts for those kids annually.
The 100 Club will also generously pay all the college tuition of those children as well.
Last, but certainly not least our Police Chaplains Ministry throughout the year supports all our Gold Star Families in various functions. (It was also learned that while the Flisk fundraiser was in progress at the FOP hall, volunteers from the Chaplains Ministry were packing boxes full of meaningful gifts for our members presently away, serving in the military.)
My point? Each of the aforementioned organizations give of themselves to support our department in various ways.
ALL of them exist because of your support and generosity. Please continue to do the 'right thing' and support them in any way possible.
All we have is one another in that... "Thin Blue Line"

Rahm of the "Never let a good crisis go to waste" Emanuel? Sorry, I'll pass.
I spoke with the officer from San Diego. He told us that the "powers that be" decided that in San Diego, they didn't need a dress coat for their new uniforms, they didn't want to pay for them. Their dress uniform is just a long sleeved shirt. The San Diego officers stood outside at the church and cemetary in their "dress uniform"....a long sleeved shirt.
Thank you officers.
Hmmm, did I miss seeing or reading something from that loud mouth Phleger (sp?) re: these recent killings? Where's all the fire and brimstone now, fat head?

OF COURSE NOT, IT'S CPD, THE HOME OF THE DOUBLE-STANDARD.
In response to the earlier post the f/1who had her iPhone earbuds in while in the auditorium was Adrian Stanley. It was on the most disrespectful things I have ever seen. If she had any class she would be ashamed of herself. What a piece of garbage. She is exactly what is wrong with this department. To have a goof like that in command is a joke
Can someone please name the F/1 commander who was listening to her IPOD while in the front row of the service? I don't know who she is , but its still bothering me
Like many others, I too was happy to see that JFled and Daley were not allowed to speak. I was unable to attend but shed more than a few tears sitting on my couch watching.
a day to remember for all the wrong reasons, and for all the nay sayers, thank you to all who showed up at the fundraiser at fop hall, it was truly impressive to see how much as a family we really back each other up. hopefully it will lend a small hand to the family in this most time of need.
At last, these two a-holes are cut off at the knees. I'm referring to Daley and Weis.

WTF?
You're joking, right?
I am simply OUTRAGED that they would diss Ann-Margret in such an arrogant and irresponsible manor!
Who do we complain to?
I watched the funeral with a profound sadness for the family of Officer Flisk as well as for the CPD. IN 25+ years I have gone through this too many times, but this year seems to be the worst. As I prayed for the family, I felt my blood boil at that piss ant in the front row. Yes you J-Fled. How dare you sand there with OUR uniform that you DO NOT deserve to wear! The instituting awards just so you and your merry band of idiots can dress up your undeserved uniforms,; you sir are an ass! But then, look closely. This moron wears OUR uniform with his righteous self-centered egotistical brain, yet he can't cut his hair to meet our standards. mr. superintendent, you are a two faced, sanctimonious coward. I am glad the family rebuked you and not allowed you to open that mouth of yours. I can't wait for the day your useless ass goes out that back door of 3510 for good. It can't come soon enough.
To the Flsik family: Stay strong, God Bless you and you are in our prayers.
An old grizzled veteran.
Don't be fooled these politicians. Rahm sees us as a huge potential voting block. That's it
J-Fled & Shortshanks Muzzled .... It was rich!!!!
Kudos to the Flisk Family for keeping the service about Mike and not giving Jfled or mayor shortshanks the opportunity for their usual grandstanding.
Anyway we could get a copy of his daughters eulogy? I made the wake but was unable to attend the funeral...saw a snippet of her on the news! I was very impressed! RIP Officer Flisk

Adrian Stanley a class act. At a funeral for a fallen officer, she wears a Ipod and headphones. Why didn't a senior rank say something to her? Does anyone care? I do not expect EB to care about class but Weiss or Cuello? Does anyone have class in the public eye?

And huge kudos to the PO who told that sorry ass excuse of a cop to take her i pod off. She was standing next to me along the wall. I find it hard to believe that she was police ever even for a minute.
What impressed me was there was a CPD Officer at every intersection from St. Rita to the cemetery. I am proud to be the police.
Officer Flisk and his wife can be very proud of their kids. Saw the eulogy and it was amazing. So touching. God Bless them.

I saw this too. It infuriated me! What an embarrassment to the CPD she is and most of all how disrespectfull! We all know many of the brass saw this, but of course they won't say a thing to her. J-Fled would never say anything because deep down he doesn't care. She must be sooooo important that a funeral for a fallen officer can't get in the way of her business. What a joke we have leading this department. SAD
Rahm also showed up at the Wake, slipped in the back door so as not to sully himself with the common man, and once inside, upon noting that there was no media presence... left.
I'd bet the farm, that he would have left the benefit immediately if there was no media presence there.

and if you look at photo 27 you got the new 3 year wonder director failing to salute the fallen officers, I don't think it's personal they just don't know what to do.

I think God and Mike were watching over us yesterday. I don't know how many people caught the trasmission over CW6 about 10 minutes into the procession when PH1 called over that it was having control problems and had to try to get back and land. Thank God they made it alright. They are always there for us. I remember one of the recent funerals where they asked to do a flyover in respect of the fallen officer. Car 49 denied it. How surprising. Glad they made it back safe yesterday.

12/02/2010 01:22:00 AM
Rahm E. was not there to support a fallen officer. He was there to grandstand and shake potential voters hands.
Anyone know how much $$ Rahm passed when he walked thru the door?
Rahm does NOTING that does not benefit himself!
Oh and will someone PLEASE tell him that being born at a Chicgao hospital DOES NOT Chicagoan make you.
Rahm - you grew up in Winnettka, IL - NOT CHICAGO!!!!!
It really was a nice service. I attended the whole thing and even went to the fundraiser later that night. Hats off to Anita Alvarez who showed up at the funeral. However, Jessie Jackson Jr.'s wife was there and she was giggling and laughing it up with a hispanic alderman next to her the whole time. They even had a big bear hug and laughs before the processing started. Such scum!
Adrian Stanley = Todd Stroger's cousin,go figure !
Rahm Emanuel spent his 51st birthday with Carol Marin on Chicago Tonight.
Marin gave him the gift of publicity -- 15 minutes on Chicagoās most popular public affairs program -- but she didnāt give him any easy questions. Hereās what Emanuel had to say about some of Chicagoās most important issues.
Pension reform: Emanuel suggested that not only should the city start new police and firefighters with lower benefits, it should re-examine the benefits of current employees.
āItās not an honest system for the people who are in it, because these benefits are something weāre going to have a difficult time keeping, and itās not an honest system to the taxpayer, because weāre going to ask them to do something theyāre not capable of doing&hellipTheyāre not on a sustainable course. We have to have an honest discussion about the changes that are going to be necessary.ā
Emanuel also suggested starting a āwellness programā modeled after the grocery store chain Safeway, which requires workers with unhealthy habits, such as smoking or obesity, to pay more for health insurance.
Keeping Ald. Edward Burke as chairman of the City Council Finance Committee: āIām not going to talk about that right now, for the simple reason that I have to run for mayor. I have to get elected. Making decisions like that are not in my purview. He has done a service since 1969. He has been Finance Committee chair for 20 years.ā
Whether he will be a boss-style mayor: āWe have to have a partnership between the mayor and the city council and that is on two fronts. You know weāre going to have about 15 new aldermen. Youāre going to have a new mayor. Thatās an opportunity for Chicago to have a new course.ā
On whether we can get out of the parking meter deal: āSince we took the money, and rather than invest in our schools, our transportation system, we paid operating costs. That moneyās out the door. Weāll never get that back. It is always a mistake to privatize something and not use the money to invest in future resources like new schools and a more modern mass transit system. Those are capital investments you should do &hellip that was a big mistake.ā
On his possible testimony in Rod Blagojevichās re-trial: āThe transition office gave four names: Jan Schakowsky, Jesse Jackson Jr., Dan Hynes and Tammy Duckworth. They came back said, āWhatās in it for the governor?ā I said, āThanks, and appreciation.āā
Emanuel wasnāt especially smooth, and even seemed nervous at times. But Richard M. Daley has set the bar for mayoral articulateness so low that just speaking in complete sentences was enough to make Emanuel sound like the greatest orator since Barack Obama. Whoever wins this election, weāll finally have a mayor we can all understand.
ANYBODY WHO VOTES FOR THIS GUY IS NUTS
to the 004th district officer holding the district flag outside the church, you were a fucking idiot, your comments and laughing while we were at attention,it was a funeral of a fallen officer, it was apparent you didnt care about being there, but you could have faked it.

12/02/2010 11:28:00 AM
Adrian Stanley a class act. At a funeral for a fallen officer, she wears a Ipod and headphones. Why didn't a senior rank say something to her? Does anyone care? I do not expect EB to care about class but Weiss or Cuello? Does anyone have class in the public eye?
12/02/2010 03:25:00 PM
If true, then don't write anonymously on the blog. Put name on paper and demand a CR for conduct bringing discredit on the department and list the egregious conduct and sign your name to it.
jody understands egregious conduct.
Then she will have to answer for it.
Send a scanned copy of the initiation to-from to SCC and to every news organization in the city and post it on every bulletin board in the police department.
Bet she doesn't do it again.
Anyway we could get a copy of his daughters eulogy? I made the wake but was unable to attend the funeral...saw a snippet of her on the news! I was very impressed! RIP Officer Flisk
12/02/2010 03:24:00 PM
This is the link to the full eulogy given by his daughter.
http://abc7chicago.com/video?id=7818969&...
I shook the hand of every out of state officer I saw and said thanks. I saw some people look at them like they were aliens. We should all at least thank them for lending support....
From someone who knows! Get the facts, mike's wife made the call early on to have her daughter represent the family! To not take away from her childrens love and respect for their dad, who they knew better than ANYONE, she told the many, no. This was not a sign of disrespect or hatred for the administration or the Mayor! Wake up you ignorant ass people! Really how incredibly arrogant of you to assume that a wife who just lost the love of her life was conspiring to make a statement. If the statement was made it was by those who have nothing better to do than put words in peoples mouths. Shame on you all. Each response should have honored the family and the soul of our departed brother. Save your political banter and bashing fir a post that has nothing to do with a fallen officer's family decision!
The children of Officer Flisk are a testament to what a good man he was. Four children that any man would be very proud of. His daughter was so impressive. Strength and resolve to match her beauty. Such a tragedy. It will obviously be difficult, but they seem to have such a strong faith in each other, I hope they can overcome the grief.
Adrian Stanley is a protected employee boys, say it like it is, an endangered specie, just let one boss approach her on this regardless of color and she will dig into her pocket and pull that card, you know the RACE CARD or the GENDER CARD, either way Black and white bosses will just melt away, it just goes to show you that we have a weak weak command staff

12/02/2010 06:59:00 AM
Now that's truely something! You should send out a letter or email to their police, thanking them, even if you don't know the officers names.
Can anyone tell me what awards J-Fled has earned as the supt? I notice that he had some ribbons on his uniform, what are they for? Besides never earning the right to wear the uniform what are those ribbons for?
12/02/2010 08:04:00 AM
I was wondering the same thing! Must have gotten them out of the Cracker Jack box.
.. Rahm Emanuel was at the benefit at the FOP hall tonight.... Not one of the other candidates bothered to attend.
Wrong, I believe Chico was there.
Remember fool, these are guys wanting to be elected, they are there for votes, just like attending parades, its all show. How many politicians attend our benefits after they are elected??
And who will support us once they get elected? Rahm who wants pension reforms.? Better think hard about that vote boys and girls.
As long as the politicians have their pensions secure they could care less about us. Not to mention most of them dont even need a pension. We do and deserve it!
Show me the politician that stood with us in the cold for an hr.??
And huge kudos to the PO who told that sorry ass excuse of a cop to take her i pod off. She was standing next to me along the wall. I find it hard to believe that she was police ever even for a minute
12/02/2010 03:39:00 PM
Sweet! Missed that part.
Members of the Cook County Sheriff"s Police were in attendance, including our 1st, Dep. Chief M. Smith.

HE ALSO DIDN'T HAVE A BLACK BAND ON HIS STAR, TOTAL LACK OF RESPECT FROM A BOSS. A TRUE LEADER LEADS BY EXAMPILE.......
Did anyone else notice the exempt, sitting in the middle section in about the third or fourth row just to the right of where the ET's sitting who kept falling asleep. If he was so tired why didn't he stand like the rest of us?
Everyone should wear a set of earbuds at work until she apologizes. or at least sent her some old dirty ratty earbuds in the police mail stating "Found after the funeral thought they might be yours.

You are an idiot. The Mayor and Superintendent have never before been excluded from speaking at the services of an officer killed in the line of duty and, considering the height of the current tension between the police and the Mayor and between the police and the Superintendent, people are bound to see a subliminal message when neither was allowed to speak at Officer Flisk's services.
Besides, with the Flisk family choosing to have a sole speaker, which was Officer Flisk's daughter, they did not have to SPECIFICALLY exclude the Shanks and the Fled or anyone else. The family handled a very touchy situation in a very insightful and civilized manner, but they muzzled the shanks and the fled just the same. Kudos to Officer Flisk's family.
I'd like to send my condolences to the Flisk family and the rest of our CPD family. I was unable to attend any of the services due to my obligations in another part of the world but enjoyed reading most of the comments about the services on SCC. A salute goes out to our Brothers at CFD for their show of Dignity and I commend them for their Honor and Loyalty especially at this time of need. I would like to comment on the F/1 of exempt rank that was in attendance wearing iPod earplugs. I find it disgraceful, unprofessional and disrespectful not only to the Flisk Family but to everyone else who gathered on that day. That classless act cannot pass without requiring her to answer to a higher authority. If she is that blatant out in public, it just makes me wonder what she does all day while in her little office at 35th St. Don't wait for the brass to make her answer for her actions, anyone that witnessed this can initiate a CR. In parting, I just want to remind my Brothers in Blue to Stay Strong, Stay United and cover one another out there. I'll see you again in June 2011.

Why dies it take the tragic death of a co-worker to bring us all together and be proud together?

Ironically, one of them was the 'getting rid of Maurer' ribbon.
Would also like to point out that the principal at Queen of Martyrs (where my children attend) had the students line up on 103rd St as the procession went by. I have my issues with this principal, but this show of support was greatly appreciated, and it gave the children a sense of respect for the police, and showed compassion for the family. Thank you Mr. Kersek
Now that her uncle john stroger is dead and todd is gone will they finally demote "dumbass" the idiot who made commander with what 6 years on?

Prime example of the dumbing-down of this department. Merit promotion due to clout and the IQ of a village idiot. So easy to show respect and leave the ear trimmings off at a funeral service, but she doesn't have a clue.

What a DISGRACE!!! Her only qualifications are being related to corrupt politicians. Please get rid of this embarrassment J-Fled! Do something to help our reputation. Then again Daley may have her back.
Rahm also showed up at the Wake, slipped in the back door so as not to sully himself with the common man, and once inside, upon noting that there was no media presence... left.
I'd bet the farm, that he would have left the benefit immediately if there was no media presence there
If you don't want to vote for him don't, but stop the bs; he waited in line like everyone else, went to the fundraiser and dropped 500 hundred, he walked around and talked at length with many officers, he gave ch5 a 1 minute interview while there for well over an hour. Chico got there later and did the same, minus the interview...

The penalty for speaking the truth in public is banishment. As a current employee I cannot afford the luxury of loosing my position. Weiss and Cuello are famous at punishing those that speak the truth. Weiss can ignore ignorant and crude behavior by exempt rank. If a blue shirt speaks out they are punished. The famous dual standard.
St.John Fisher students and teachers also were standing outside on 103rd to pay their respect for a fellow parishioner, neighbor and friend. May you rest in peace Officer Flisk, may god bless your beautiful family during these very difficult times. All of you will remain in our prayers for the many months ahead.

I think its great that jfled and shortshanks were asked not to speak. The family did it respectfully by informing them a few days ahead of time. The eulogy is always more heartwarming and personal when given by a family member or friend. Most priests that give the eulogy these days don't really know the deceased and it sounds awkward. A great job by the Flisk Family at their time of sorrow.
12/02 9pm - you got some hatin issues dude, if people are wrong or right on this issue who really cares it's just a blog for gosh sake-
Adrian Stanley, you should of kept your "UNSYMPATHETIC ASS HOME", if listening to your Ipod is more important then paying respect to our fallen Brother, you might as well have gone up to the front pew and spit in the families face..
Along the route, in the funeral procession to the cemetery, we drove down 103rd st. People were out there in groups, pairs, individuals. There were also a number of school children with signs that they'd made, standing out in the cold. We don't get a lot of acclaim, kudos, or good press, but I guess that maybe to some, we're still the good guys. I'd like very much to think that......
***********************************
My husband, myself and our 20 month old son stood outside on 103rd & Kedzie in front of CVS to pay our respects to the Flisk family and to all the CPD who protects our city day in and day out. When my son gets older I will be proud to tell him how he stood out in the cold to help support the CPD during their time of grief.
Adrian Stanley is from Unit 112, Bureau of Professional Standards, something she sure lacks at a Police Officers funeral.
If I missed the comment I am sorry for reposting. Thank you to the guys who stood with flags at the door to the funeral home. Don't know the name of the group but imagine they are the same that honor the young men and women returning from overseas and preventing disruptions at their services. You are appreciated!

Say what you want about her, and she does have a lot of command skills lacking, but she scored extremely high on both sgts and lt exams. First classes both times strictly on exam scores. No merit there. You can blame Johns Richardson and Stroger for any promotions after that, along with everyone's favorite stuperintendent Terry Hillard.
The only reason she wore the ear buds was because she cant replace the battery in her blinking blue tooth hands free ear device.
When Stanley was the commander of 21 she brought and F/1 on the tact team who was living with a gang banger who was killing people like cancer. She put her on the tact team cause her "friend" needed a partner, no background check nothing. She should have been demoted for that incident and she was not.
I heard from some people at the Chico campaign today that Gery Chico did in fact appear at the fundraiser to show support for the Flisk family. It seems Chico has people on his family who are also police officers, and that's why he came out, not to publicize on the event.

Lucky us. Vietnam vet but no one knows.
While standing outside of the church, prior to the arrival of the hearse, the family was huddled together in the cold. I am not sure how many witnessed this but Mike's daughter Peg was really shivering and it seemed like forever before the hearse arrived. Her mom and brothers were doing their best to keep her warm. When out of the blue an exempt broke rank, with many others watching her freeze, and went up to Peg. He took off his long reefer coat and wrapped it around her. It was a very moving moment as she really started to cry. The exempt retuned to his place and remained in the cold with not much to keep himself warm, and Peg's mom & siblings comforted her. So to that exempt I say hats off to you. You sir are truly a class act!!!

Regardless of his politics, THIS IS BULLSHIT. I was right behind him in line, he waited like everyone else. He went in like everyone else, paid his respects and left a bit later. Yes he said hello to people inside of the funeral home. The guy has spent his life in this town, he knows people. He made it his business to thank two NYPD coppers that were behind him.
Like I said, I am not his biggest fan, but the truth is the truth.

On a cold and sad day I have never seen such a thing in my career in the NYPD. You all should be proud for the support and love you have shown the Flisk family. I never have felt so proud of my brothers as I did this week. From Chicago to Cleveland to San Diego and the dozen of other departments that showed your support and yes even the fire department. My heart was touched forever. For the Flisk family and my dear friend Megan my heart could never express how I feel to you. To mikes kids my God you can never be so proud to have such amazing children and the strength they showed. I love you all and you all made me feel so proud to be what we are and i love you all. Stay safe and watch over each other God knows no one else will and I hope my next visit will be a better one.

I work a beat car in a district. Where would they "banish" me?
Unfortunately I did not see this incident and by all that is good and holy I swear I would put pen to paper if I had. I've done it before.
So you're saying if you speak the truth in public you are afraid they may send you to a unit you don't like, hence the silence. Is that about right?
Keep your "position" because I know just what that position is, holding your ankles while you get it up the bum.
Keep your silence too you eunuch.
Is there a sworn with some stones to write a CR complaint on the idiot exempt wearing ear buds inside the funeral?
If anyone is retaliated against, go into Automated Directives and search for Equal Employment Opportunity. You should find a .pdf complaint form that is self-explanatory. One of the check boxes is for Retaliation. Fill that out, call the union for advice and get a lawyer.
That is, if you can afford the luxury of losing your "position" and have the intestinal fortitude to stand up for what is right.

And he truth is when he gets elected mayor he will fuck us worse than his predecessor.
Bring some lube.
Every single man, woman and child in attendance at that funeral was a hero just as much as Officer Flisk and he'd be the FIRST man to tell you so. You didn't have to go, you went because it was the RIGHT thing to do. In a city filled with people, even our elected officials, who often don't do the right thing, you did the right thing. You did it as a unified sea of brotherhood and sisterhood. Does it matter who had an earbud on or who laughed. We are brothers and sisters, and as God has shown us in the last year, brothers and sisters who lives are respected only by those of us who will do the next right thing. I salute you, you Band of Brothers. You are Honor. You are Heroes all.
And he truth is when he gets elected mayor he will fuck us worse than his predecessor.

Probably right. Could someone pass along the name of whichever candidate WON'T fuck us?
I'll stand by.
